RSVP RANT

Original post by XCW331

I just started receiving RSVP's in the mail last week. Everything has been perfect until today when a relative decided to add 5 more additional guests!!! I almost threw up when I saw the number 7!!! I've always heard about this sort of thing happening but I never figured it would happen to me!!! Some people are so rude. This is the same relative who didn't even attend, respond, or even send a gift for my bridal shower!!! I am so stressed out about everything else and I don't know how to deal with this... With only 73 days until the wedding...I feel that I will have a breakdown soon. Is it normal to be this stressed out so close to the wedding?!

My advice is to tell her how excited you are that she is attending but unfortunately you can only accommodate the number of guests you included in the invite and that you are counting on her understanding as it means so much to you that she is attending. Etc. If she chooses not to come, well oh well.

This is unfortunate but take a deep breath.

This. Good luck. Stick to your guns.

People are rude. I'm afraid I will have to deal with this as well. I would call them and be upfront. Pull the I'm paying for my wedding all my own card. Good luck!!

It's my mom's sister and shes angry at my mom and all her other sister's. Therefore having my mom speak to her is not an option. I will have to handle this one on my own.

Have your maid of honor politely tell her that you cannot accomodate extra people and if they decide to attend there will not be a seat for them. You have to put your foot down, it's too much money and stress on you.

I couldn't have said it better myself!

I completely agree!!!! Good luck with this.

Agreed! Definitely need to address it soon. I wonder if people have never been to a wedding before when they pull something like that! Adding 5 people?! Hoping she isn't doing it on purpose just to get you stressed out.

i too agree with this

I have heard of worse! Even some that COMEwith extra people to the hall. I would just call her and say your glad she can make it but the invite is just for her as you have a maximum number and can not go over it. Then I would not count her as a guest, there are always a few that RSVP and then don't show due to emergencies or unforseen events. Good luck. I know I will have to deal with this to due to my family culture!

Well put!

I had that happen for my first wedding. A relative on my ex's side from Austria decided to add his entire family (including aunts, uncles, kids, parents etc..) Aparently he decided it was a family trip to the USA. Since we weren't paying for it my x-MIL said to just let him and it added a lot to our guest list, but hey, not footing the bill. This time around we are expecting one couple on my FH's side to do this (invite thieir kids- we heard through the 'grape vine') and my FH immediately called them and said nicely that we can't accommodate the kids. We are paying this time and even if we weren't.... hey, it's our wedding and we control the rules. Don't let it stress you too much and it doesn't seem like she's much of a close relative so let her be pissed and those family members that matter will understand your side. It's your day!
