RSVPs Non traditional way

Original post by adelya21

Is anyone doing their RSVPs the non traditional way by having your guests RSVP on your wedding site? I think I am going to do that and add my wedding site info on to my RSVP card and have people just do everything online. I feel like its so much easier ---especially for me with law school and everything. Anyone else doing this?

Thanks for your input!

I think to each their own. If you want to do RSVP's via your website then go for. I personally plan on following etiquette and tradition and plan on including RSVP cards in my invitations.

I think it would be totally fine if all of your invitees are really computer savvy, but I know at least in my case, about 30% of my family would have a hard time figuring out how to RSVP and would probably just get frustrated. JIMHO.

I agree its not for everyone. I think in my case pretty much everyone knows how to use a computer

Me too!!! LOL...you know what I'm gonna say. I give you A LOT of credit. I told FH to not call me for 2 months cause I'll definitely be in B&^*TCH mode for sure!

More power to you!! I would definitely have done the exact same thing if I were passionate about having a summer wedding.
Just make sure that you aren't thinking about the rule of perp. while you are getting married!! lol..

I say go for it! Just make sure its very clear how to RSVP on your invitation. People can be very computer savvy but may not be accustomed to online RSVPing.

I am not just because, there are a lot of elderly people invited to mine, but other than that I think it is cool!

I like the idea and would do it. Unfortunately, I am inviting too many old people for this to be a feasible option for me. They would not be able to figure it out and it would get annoying.

Aside from my desire to have the formality of the mailed RSVP card, not all of our invitees know how to use computers (some don't even know how to turn it on let alone use the internet).

I had everyone e-mail me. It was the easiest, best thing I did with the invites, everyone responded on time.

ETA: We knew that only two people would not be able to e-mail us (DH's gmas), and we already knew they were coming.

Yes!

We'll be asking our guests to RSVP on our website that I created. I'm going to create a form (via Wufoo) that will allow guests to reply online.
For the few guests that we have that don't have computer access we might send them a RSVP Postcard or maybe add a phone # for them to call.
Honestly, those are probably the same people that will forget to RSVP on time anyway.

Not everyone's wedding is super duper uber fancy.

I think whatever works for you.

I totally agree. Maybe older relatives that are not computer savvy you might want to send a formal RSVP by mail.

Re: RSVPs Non traditional way

I did online rsvp through my webiste. In my case its definitely easier because I live overseas. I cold´ve sent them to my moms house but she was in the process of moving and they´re always running around.

Personally I made up a cheesy poem about how its hard to get mail and for them to RSVP online. Just in case I included two phone numbers in case anyone needed help. (mine - i have a line through the internet - and one of my sisters). So far noone has called. We have 20+ responses already. (we invited 132 people). The RSVP date is the 22nd so we´ll see how it goes until then.

Honestly even for people who aren´t computer savvy, they prob have somone close to them that is. For example My aunt and uncle who I was sure would call it in - RSVPd online and I notice that it was their daughterin law that did it. (on my site you put in your email address so that you get a confirmation).

Its been super easy and I got RSVPs a little sooner I think. I got one the same exact day they received the invite and within the first week I had over 15 RSVPs. Most people are on the computer so much these days that its easier than going to a mailbox.

Plus I already did my tentative seating chart (the website is through weddingwire.com and their seating chart is just drag and drop so I started playing around with it) and as people RSVP no they get automatically erased from the seating chart.

I personally love it and have my sister who is getting married next year is thinking about doing it too even though she lives in NY!!

I say go for it!!

Something I was going to do but completely forgot to do is include instructions on how to RSVP. Its really pretty self explanitory but I think it would still be nice for some people. For instance my mother is using the computer a lot now (she´s always on facebook) but she still needed me to walk he through the RSVP. So I think this would be a good thing to do. (Maybe print it on the back of the card)

Exactly!! and my wedding website allows people to choose their meal option too which is sooo great!! Mine is from Mywedding.com

I told my MOH about it and she loved the idea too.

I was thinking of doing this too, and was going to post about it!!!! I have a wedding website and there is an RSVP section so that was the first time I had thought about it.

I think that it will make RSVPing easier for a lot of people who keep putting off filling it in and dropping in the mailbox... besides like you said people are into computers more and more and might like the idea!

mine is through mywedding.com also!!! I love that site! Definitely the best websites!

I think we might do this, and then provide cards for people that we think won't be comfortable with it... like FH's grandma, etc.

I think in 5 years it will be the norm. I think it's cool, but I think it will puzzle older guests, and for me I really want to have the physical cards

I personally feel this is an etiquette no-no and takes away from the formality and seriousness of the occasion. Sorry, jmo...

ita. And what about the people who are older and don't know computers?

Well like I said before i only have a few older guests and they talk directly to my parents and we pretty much know they are coming. 95% of my guests are all able to use computers and I dont think it takes away from the elegance of the event at all. I think it just depends on your guest list and what you prefer.

Ye I am going to add my MOH's phone number instead of mine because she is going to take over everything while I am studying for the Bar Exam.
