Re: Russian - Jewish Brides
Since I'm starting this, I'll post a topic of concern for discussion.
How religious are you making your wedding? - Are you having a veil cover your face? - Are you signing the Ketubbah (sp?) and if so, then are you (the bride) going to be present there? - Are you getting a plain solid metal band as required? ...and are you doing/not doing anything else? (Like I won't be fasting.)

I don't think I'm going to help you too much. I'm russian jewish and FH is Italian Catholic. We are not having religious ceremony. We are going to have a justice of the peace. I am going to have a veil covering my face and both my parents will walk me down.

You must have found the man of your dreams! My parents (dad esp.) wasn't too pleased when I dated non Jewish guys (I'm not even talking about marriage) - something like this would have been a double blow, they would have killed me!!!!

... but I really love the variety here!!! Makes me feel like the choices I need to make aren't that difficult.

Re: Russian - Jewish Brides
My parents definately were not happy at first, but then they saw how well he treated me and they accepted it. My mom still make comments to me sometimes, but she really like FH now and would rather see me married now that wait to find someone they think would be better suited for me

Re: Russian - Jewish Brides
My fiance is Irish Catholic. Obviously, we're having an interfaith wedding (both a rabbi and priest will officiate).
My veil will cover my face during the ceremony.
I am signing a ketubah (still have to find an interfaith one that I love).
I'm not getting a solid band. I plan to wear a diamond wedding band and cannot fathom spending additional money for a ring that I would only use for the ceremony (it wouldn't have the same meaning for me if my ring wasn't the one I was married with anyway).

Hi there... Russian/Jewish bride here!
- not sure about the veil yet... haven't started looking for that yet but it probably will cover my face - Yes, signing the Ketubah... yes, I will be there - Yes, getting a plain solid band for the ceremony but also a diamond pave set band to match my e-ring - I won't be fasting... we are not very religious - sorta reformed but we keep traditions and holidays - Our ceremony will be a weeee bit before sundown (actually like 2 hrs before) and performed by a Cantor... we are getting married June 18th - almost the longest day of the year and we can't have guests starving until 10pm for the cocktail hour. - I will have Yarmolkes - I am making programs explaining the Chupa, Ketubah, breaking of the glass...etc for those who do not know the significance
hope that helps!

Re: Russian - Jewish Brides
Another Russian - Jewish bride here... We are not having a very religios wedding at all. I will be having a cantor to perform the ceremony, and I believe I will be able to use the diamond band that I will have. Since its really just about tradion - on the band and all to ensure that you are not marrying for many - I am definately not!
We will do the ketubah signing, and the Bedeken. The Bdeken is when the bride sais a blessing about being a good wife, and the husband makes a blessing about being a good husband... so that Gd helps them to be. We are not having a Kosher wedding, so its not that religious already. Definately not fasting! Wedding is stressful enough! and I need my strength.

are you guys having problems with Registries? Our families really don't get the idea behind it, so I am afraid I won't get ANYTHING off my registry!

Oh My G-D YES! I am so terrified! I think that most people on my side have been trained for this already but my FH.. his family is also Russian/Jewish and I know for a fact that they don't get it. FMIL also only gave my mom 9 people for the shower so hopefully it won't be terrible.

I am having problems with the Inlaws too! They completely don't understand! They won't even invite anyone on their side to the shower! They feel imbarassed! Like there is something to be imbarrased of! Other than his parents and sisters, no one is showing up! But my side is trained too! Hopefully they will get something..
How many people do you think will come to your shower?

Re: Russian - Jewish Brides
Where are you having the bridal showers?
I had to explain to my family the difference between a bridal shower and a bachelorette party. I said that bachelorette party is to celebrate the bride's last day as a single woman, and a bridal shower is to celebrate her getting married and becoming a wife (and thus involves household presents ). How do you think I did?

I told them a mix of what you both told yours. My FH thinks he is funny though. I told him that he better get me a shower gift too and he said he is getting me a sponge, some soap and a shower cap...
