Same Sex Marriage is Mass.. how do you feel about it?
Original post by Xelindrya
So How do you feel?
Im curious how 'we' here feel about it in general. Seeing as we are all getting married or are married. Admittedly our views are a bit skewed to the 'happily ever after'.
Then again, not everyone can have the same cookie cutter view of this but it's difficult to express that in a post without fear of being battered over it. So I created what I hope is a broad based poll.
If you view, please choose. Even if it's 'other'.

(Posted by Shelly3950: OK- now I'll respond. This is not a Catholic country. Catholic rules have no right to interfere with the state rules. This is America- separation of church and state. If Catholic rule was the law of the land say goodbye to birth control, abortion, pre marital sex, etc..
I understand your opinions, but religious views should not interfere with lawmaking. )
I agree with you. Separation of church and state.

i'm kind of surprised that so many here (well at least the ones posting anyway) are so against it. but this thread just reminds me why i despise all organized religion and feel it is the cause of 90% of the world's problems. but i digress. i fully support gay marriage. in my mind in makes perfect sense. i think they should just legalize it and then leave it up to each church to decide whether or not they want to perform the marriages.

Well said. When this country was founded, slaves were not allowed to marry. We must change with the times, and the President should not be allowed to dictate the laws of this country based on his own religious views. I do have a problem with Catholics hiding behind the fact that it isn't right with their church when every Catholic I know has had premarital sex (that said, if you are a Catholic who strictly adheres to the rules dictated by your church, that's another story. If you pick and choose which to follow, that is hypocrisy).

I voted that I was against it to begin with, as it was not in line with the Catholic Church.
I was just wondering if you abstain from pre-marital sex and will abstain from using birth control (now or when you are married), since neither of them are in line with the Catholic Church?
hey, i'm not saying i'm perfect

Not many people are perfect, I just don't agree wih people making a blanket statement, about not agreeing with something because it isn't in line with the Catholic Church, but then doing other things that aren't okay with the Catholic Church because it's something they want to do. If you're going to go the religion route as to why something is or is not 'acceptable', you shouldn't pick and choose. It is essentially saying the Catholic Church is against gay marriage so it's bad, but I want to get laid/ not have babies (now, later, etc), so I will ignore what the Church says now because it is easier for me.

Also, posted by DLWDG, 'The worst for me is those people who stand behind the catholic church is some regards but ignore the church when it is for their benefit (ie..I don't agree with gay marriages...but I am going to go home and have sex with my live in lover) Yes this land was founded on the belief in GOD.. I don't think God has told me yet that homosexuality is wrong...the church has, but God has not. When God speaks those words to me, perhaps then, and only then, will I reconsider. '
Well said! I understand if people don't favor gay marriage, but to state the reason for it as being against the church, and then partake in other activities that are also against the church, it seems hypocritical. Maybe there is another reason people are not in favor of it and have not realized it. Or maybe it is one of those doctrines people don't question because it doesnt' affect them.
It just upsets me when people justify denying other people rights because of religion, but do whatever they want for themselves.

Absolutely!!!! I realize that when the country was founded, a majority of the people did believe in religion, BUT, it is in our laws that there is a separation! If the Catholic church (or any other religion for that matter) does not want to approve of marriage and perform one or recognize it, they have that right. I'm don't for a second think that they should be forced to do it and I don't think that is what people are asking for, but it should not have ANYTHING to do with the law!

I know I do. I won't be a hypocrite and say that I am perfect though. I am not the most devout Catholic there is but FH and I have not slept together and I don't plan on being on Birth Control. I am a strong believer of 'To each is own' and I would not judge anyone who was married to a same sex partner, I just particularly am not all for it.

Re: Same Sex Marriage is Mass.. how do you feel about it?
I feel I must respond to meghanmetz's question about whether or not i use birth control or whether or not I've had premarital sex, basically implying that I am a hypocrite. I really don't have to answer to this, because it's really none of anyone's business, but to make a point I will.
yes we did have pre-marital sex, BUT, it was only after we were engaged to be married. I know that doesn't necessarily make it right, but I don't condone one-night stands, nor do I condone sex without a commitment of marriage or to be married. I don't agree with two people living together unless they are married and we didn;t move in together till after the wedding.
As for birth control, we don't use it -- whatever happens is God's will.
So, when I stand behind the Catholic church, I stand behind them fully for the most part. So, that doesn't make me a hypocrite.
Besides my religious beliefs, I just don't think it is right and it is certainly not right to allow them to raise children. There are qualities that are passed to a child that only a man has, and only a woman has. Same sex marriages confuse the child and lead to teasing and bullying by peers because they;re not like everyone else. Why would you want to subject a child to such psychological damage.
I love the folks who said, 'God didn;t tell me that same sex marriage was wrong'. My answer to that is that God doesn't have to tell you anything. It's called faith. There's a lot of things He doesn't tell us because you know it and you believe it.
Adam and Eve were put on this earth to procreate. It doesn't say anything about Adam and Steve, read between the lines.
OK, now I'm gonna get killed -- bring it on

Adam & Steve!!! Good one.
As for the first part.. Being Agnostic I'd say God hasn't actually told me a whole heck of a lot lately. And although I admit it's been awhile since I picked up the good book, my Pedecostal upbringing seems to recall no mention anywhere in the book itself that directly quotes Thou shalt not do the nasty before marriage.. nor does it say Thou shalt not prevent pregnancy. Both subjects to me are good faith followings of the community of the church not so much the 'word of god'.
Unless someone can point the Chapter and Verse to me which I will then GLADLY admit my error.. but I think that's another thread.. which I'll start here shortly.

I feel as though maybe I am being called out for what I wrote regarding God telling me something (which is fine, please take all my words as friendly debates/comments. I am not heated up nor am I flaming) I don't believe in organized religion and I don't believe in the bible. I think the bible can be compared to the brothers Grim. If someone came up to me today and told me that God told them to stand on a mountain and write 10 'guidelines' on a rock, I think I would have them committed. I guess all I am trying to say is that I don't (won't) read the bible so I can't read between the lines and Adam and Eve means nothing to me.
I agree with that 100%. I also don't really feel that organized religion is 'my way' (let's say). When I talk about my unrealized belief in the system, I'm usually the one drowned.
No biggie. I also don't think anyone (hopefully) is calling eachother hypocritics. Just questioning following one set of rules and living by another, perhaps. Which I still find sorta ok. I Follow the laws of the state and try not be a good driver, but I still speed like hell!
