Re: Second Baby Shower? Tacky?
I think it depends on how many years it's been since her last child and if the sex of the child is different. If there is a large gap (5+ years) I think she should have one. If it's a small gap..it's tacky.

Re: Second Baby Shower? Tacky?
I think it is just fine. We actually threw a suprise shower for my SIL to be for her second boy. She had had a miscarriage between her two boys and we just wanted to do something nice for her. She was not registered anywhere and people gifted as they wished. We also limited it is 15 close freinds.
I would keep it small and perhaps considered not having a registry.

tell us how you really feel LOL i think that the NW traditions are different bc we have bigger affairs - at a hall with decorations, favors etc. so to have that more than once OR to pay for a big shower and then have another even if its smaller, in a few years - it would just be too expensive
Also, even though my nephew is not getting a baby shower he will have a big baptism party in just a few months! So it is a lot of stuff all at once for the family to pay for.
I went to a christening with FH when we first started dating. I don;t do christening typically because I am agnostic. I couldn't believe the money spent, it was like a reception!
I don't get it, I probably never will!
yup - christenings, communions, confirmations - people go all out.
in my family we do them at home, or a dinner at a restaurant if the family lives in an apartment - but i have been to plenty at halls
but as for showers, especially with MY italian family - they are like mini-weddings i had almost 80 people at my shower!

NYers in general do most things to the extreme. It is just like that here
yeah the russian community in chicago is like that too :)

many christenings here are big, and obviously every child will have a christening lol. Alot of money is spent and all the gifts given are cash gifts. I am christian orthodox, and our christenings are huge, and people give alot of money as a gift.
There are many traditions in different cultures and religions that are different than mine. I dont need to get it or think something is wrong just because it is different than mine. I see it as just a different culture or religion and that is THEIR way of doing things, and that is all i need to know.

Re: Second Baby Shower? Tacky?
My sister just had a her 2nd baby 3yrs after her first. I threw her a little shower with just close family and friends in a friends house. She had moved twice within those 3yrs and had pretty much nothing left, and since it was all close family and friends everyone had mentioned at one point or another that we should do something so it was a no brainer for me. We were all going to buy her what she needed anyway, so I figured why not have a day where we can all get togethr and celebrate?
I think something small will be good!

Re: Second Baby Shower? Tacky?
Not every one keeps stuff from first shower. I wanted to get rid of everything as soon as my son got a little older, apart from few clothing (to make room). Give her a small shower.

Re: Second Baby Shower? Tacky?
i think it depends on the situation,
we ended up having my sister a second one bc, her youngest and only child at the time was 12. she thought she was never going to have any more babies, and we surely honestly never thought she was going to have once since her son was 12. so she had given everything away that she had. so this time we had a small family one at my house
so if her children is much older then the her new one then i think a small family one would be ok
but if she just had a shower in the last 3-4 yrs for her other child then maybe its a little tacky

I think its fine we gave my cousin a second shower after her first daughter. The first child is 8 so their is an 8 year gap and she needed all new things

I think a lot of northeastern traditions are stingy and weird.
.
Careful, you are in a room full of 'stingy' and 'extravagant ' Northeasterners...

Re: Second Baby Shower? Tacky?
To answer the OP... i think a small gathering at someone home would be more than appropriate. There's really no need for her to register, so a small brunch at someone's house to celebrate baby #2 would be fine and fun! Congrats to your sister.

Re: Second Baby Shower? Tacky?
i attended to a baby 'SPRINKLE' instead of a shower since it was for the 2nd baby.
they didnt do gifts, just a wishing well where people brought clothes, diapers etc.
i thought that was ok since you werent required to bring a full gift. but i think the idea is a little weird
