second-guessing my dress-long

second-guessing my dress-long

What should you do if your second guessing your dress choice but can't do anything about it????

I got engaged in March and set the date for August...so I didn't have a whole lot of time to waste. I bought a sample Lazaro dress (it had only been in the store a couple of weeks and was immaculate), but I'm starting to second guess my choice. I initially went in with my heart set on a ballgown dress. I think I bought this dress because it was available NOW and I didn't have to worry about special 'rush' charges and getting the dress 1 week before the wedding.

Now, here I am, 7-weeks to go and I'm wondering if I should have just chanced it. I can't just go out and buy another dress and eat the cost on this dress. Although it was a sample...it still wasn't cheap. I just can't throw that money away. I guess I can try to sell it, but there's no guarantee someone would buy it.

Sorry I'm going on and on...I've been losing sleep over this for days. Thanks for listening.

Re: second-guessing my dress-long

I went through a very similar experience. I had only 7 months to plan & I ordered the third dress I tried on..... I freaked about 2 months before the wedding - I went crazy trying on many other dresses & looking on ebay & I even had a Vera Wang shipped from Texas (I always wanted a Vera )

Well after all was said and done I ended up not liking any of the other dresses....I really loved my dress, but I was freaked out that I 'settled' and found it too quickly. I even hated the way the Vera Wang looked on me, even though I had alays promised myself I would get a Vera Wang wedding dress, it just wasn't meant to be that way.

And I still look at me in my dress from my wedding & I still love it!

I guess the best thing I can say is that your wedding will be beautiful, and you picked your dress for a reason.

Good Luck!

I think you should do whatever makes you happy. Maybe if you spend one day looking for dresses you will either find another that you love, or you may decide that you still love yours. What does your dress look like?

Is there something specific you don't like about the dress? I second-guessed my dress alot after I got it. But I just saw it again and I really do think it's pretty. I'm sure you will look beautiful in the dress. You have to be happy though. If you really decide it was a mistake try and get something else. At this point it would pretty much have to be a super-rush or off the rack. It'll all work out. You'll see.

Re: second-guessing my dress-long

I totally understand how you feel. I LOVED my dress when I ordered it, to make a long story short, when it came in I not only didn't love it but it didn't fit!!! I agonzied over this, became very upset and then started dress shopping to see what was out there. I too, couldn't eat the cost of the dress so I purchased another dress that was affordable yet very beautiful. Two weeks ago I went and tried the orignal dress back on and am kind of liking it again. So now I have two dresses and no idea, which I will wear. I'm hoping to sell whichever I don't wear but who knows.....
My advice would be to go with your gut on this. AFter how much we all seem to spend on the wedding you need to feel beautiful on your day. Really think about if you want to wear your dress and if you absolutely don't there are alternatives, try sample sales, something off the rack or something a bit less expensive if you can. It's a tough decision but try and remember why you bought the first dress to begin with....I know it's hard, best of luck

Re: second-guessing my dress-long

Thanks everyone...you guys are so great.

I was thinking of just taking a day off and going dress shopping by myself and see what happens...but then I remind myself that I ALREADY PAID FOR A DRESS!!!!!!! So, I don't know if I want to 'tease' myself.

I have a couple of photos from my fitting, but they are in 'photoshop' format...anyone know how to convert them to jpeg or gif?

I think:
open up the pic, do save as, you can change the format to jpeg at the bottom of the box underneath where you put the name.

Re: second-guessing my dress-long

I think it's gorgeous. I had second thoughts about minetoo- I bought maybe the tenth dress I tried on. Like you, I have a relatively short engagement and felt a bit pressured. Then I spent a lot of time wondering if I should have waited. I already put down a deposit and I was kind of annoyed at myself. Although I saw so many dresses that were gorgeous, I realized that most of them were not 'me', and found my way to happiness again.

That being said, if you feel that strongly, then keep looking. There are sites like preownedweddingdresses.com where you can sell your dress. If you find something else you love and are willing to take a loss (hopefully small) on the first dress, then that's what you should do. People on the Knot sell their dresses all the time- maybe post there if you decide to sell.
