I'm sure this has been asked a million times, but I'm new here, so bear with me....
Our ceremony is at 7:30 PM at the same place our reception is, so the CH starts right at 8PM. We havent chosen a photographer yet, but the ones we've met with all have suggested we take pics before the cermony. I am not at all supersticious, but I just feel like its sort of anticlimatic to see each other before the ceremony. I like the idea of him seeing me for the first time when I am walking down the aisle. But then I also dont want to feel rushed when it comes to taking the pictures during the CH, nor do I want to make my entire bridal party miss the whole CH.
Let me know your thoughts....should I just suck it up and agree to see each other beforehand for the sake of having more photo time?

Re: Seeing each other before the cermony
what you can do is take pics of each side before the ceremony. Like you take all your BP pics and family pics prior to and same with your FH's side.
If you're cool with seeing each prior to then go for it. You will still get that seeing each for the first time feeling regardless.

Re: Seeing each other before the cermony
I the Polish tradition the groom picks the bride up from her parents house and they get the blessing from the parents before they leave for the ceramony, so my FH will see me before hand.

Take the pictures before your ceremony, this way you can enjoy your cocktail hour and you won't feel rushed to get the pictures done.

Re: Seeing each other before the cermony
Ou ceremony is at 12 with the CH starting at 12:30. We are not going to see each other before hand, and i think that we will try and take as many pics as possible with the BP before hand...then during the cocktail hour my FI and I will take our personal pics.

Re: Seeing each other before the cermony
Well we're not getting married at the reception hall. We're getting married in church. We are keeping with tradition and not seeing or talking to each other the day of the wedding...the first time we will see each other is at church after my father walks me down the aisle.

Re: Seeing each other before the cermony
If you are not worried about the superstitious aspect, I say take pics before. This way you are not rushed. If you like the idea of him seeing you for the first time to be exciting, I would suggest maybe that you set up the first time he will see you and have both your photographer and videographer (if you are to have both) be there to capture the moment. OH! Maybe at the Fox Hollow you can have him waiting at the bottom of that waterfall they have there and you can come up from behind him. That would be so pretty! Wait, I am thinking about the right place?

I agree with you. Even though it's SUPER practical to just take pics b4 the ceremony I don't think I want him to see me b4 either. I am not doing it. If you feel you're going to ruin the moment just take pics after. You'll enjoy plenty of food at the weeding anyway! XOXOXO Kitty

Re: Seeing each other before the cermony
I'd say take the pics beforehand. I am. Every single person I've talked to who did that was really happy that they had, and every photographer I met with highly recommended it and said that couples they have worked with said that it made their day much more relaxing and enjoyable.
I for one really like the idea of being able to relax and enjoy some time together before the crazy emotional time of the ceremony... especially since we, like you, won't have our ceremony until very late, it would otherwise be a very long and stressful day worrying about if the other person is freaking out or having second thoughts or whatever... because we're both neurotic like that, and I know it would happen.
Also... the best food at a party is always at the cocktail hour, and I want to enjoy it dammit!

I agree, I want a quiet room, just the two of us for the first time we see each other.. we can relax and enjoy each others company before all of the craziness! Im really really looking forward to this.
Then I get to chill at the CH!
Whether he sees you before or when you are coming down the aisle for the first time... he is still seeing you for a first time, why make it in front of 100s of people?

Re: Seeing each other before the cermony
I have the same issue...I'm really torn bc a part of me wants to see the look on FH face as my Dad walks me down the isle but the practicle side of me want to get the bulk of the formal pics out of the way so we can enjoy the CH in the bridal suite with our bridal party. I'm still torn

Re: Seeing each other before the cermony
well we have a ton of time in between for our pics so it is not a problem for us... and i like the idea (i know i'm gay LOL) of the doors opening and us seeing each other for the first time right there-- AHH CORNY but lol, i can't help myself...
but you should do what you and FH want! i don't believe in the bad luck thing, that's silly-- you should do whatever is easier for you and whatever you feel works for you two... having the nice peaceful moment to yourselves before the big day starts sounds nice and if it helps with your pics, even more the reason

I agree completely. For me, I just really love the idea of that moment in the church being the first time he sees me. (and so does FH) Logistically, we will be rushed for pictures but that's just the way we want to do it. Discuss it with FH and decide what works best for the two of you and don't worry about what anyone else wants you to do.

Re: Seeing each other before the cermony
We are taking pics before the ceremony too. all the $ we are paying, we want to enjoy the CH.
Also, even though we will have seen each other, seeing me walk down the isle will be something he hasnt seen. and that will make him get all teary eyed lol
go for it

Re: Seeing each other before the cermony
Since your cermony is late you should consider taking pics before so you can get pictures in the sunlight, ...the time is too close between the ceremony and CH unless you dont mind missing your CH and taking pics then.... but again that only give you an hour, but the sunshine will be diminishing.
I'm not superstitious, but I like the fact that FH will see me for the first time walking down the aisle.

Re: Seeing each other before the cermony
I went through this dilemma as well. We decided on seeing each other before the ceremony. My hall is going to have FH sitting under the gazebo in the garden and my father is still going to walk me over to him and hand me away, it just won't be during the ceremony. Therefore, we still will have the magical moment of seeing each other but also get to enjoy our cocktail hour.

Re: Seeing each other before the cermony
My ceremony is in a church at 3:00 so I will not see until the ceremony. If my ceremony was starting at 7:30 I would see him before the ceremony to get the pictures over and done with.

Re: Seeing each other before the cermony
I was really against seeing FH before the ceremony, but now I have changed my mind. I mean, the whole thing is based on superstion, and I already live with him, so the whole 'element of surprise' isn't really there, lol. My friend who recently got married explained it in a way that makes sense...I'm spending $$$$ on one very important day, I should be able to enjoy the entire reception. We are taking pics at 5, then going back to our seperate bridal suites from about 6-6:30, to freshen up. Ceremony is at 6:30
