Sensitive topic but curious to know..

Original post by Johnny&Maur

I know..i'm not exactly make the boards less controversial...but I'm not asking this to start controversy, but rather just for my own knowledge...

Does anyone consider themselves to be pro-life? As someone who is pro-life with reservations (i think should be ok in cases of rape, incest, & endangerment to the mother) I just always feel in the minority. Which i know i am...I grew up in a big irish catholic family who ingrained in my head that life began at conception..and that every life is precious. I am trying to figure out things for myself, and really understand my views...

One thing i'd like to add is that i would never press my beliefs upon someone else-I know abortion is one of the hardest things a woman could ever decide to do. Just wanted to know if anyone felt similar to me in their own personal belief system?

Listen to this info from someone who knows..yes little girls are killed..just becasue we dont see it plastered on CNN does not mean that it doesnt happen. Its just not publicized as much or occurs as frequently as it did in the past..

Its kind of like Korea when the soldiers get sweet innocent korean girls pregnant..many have been known to kill themself and the child ..once again not exactly plastered all over the news.

Exactly1 My uncle has told me stories about what they used to do over there.

I am glad I got to go into the military and I am also glad I was in the intelligence and communication squadrons..I got to see stuff that people think is taboo..becasue it was just so horendous to think people may actaully be so EVIL.

I was in Osan Korea and we had heated discussions like these where people would share their expereiences..and for those military who have had the opportunity/misfortune to go on a hardship assignment..you get exposed to info that others dont..and for the record..I have close friendships with Asian Americans and info is passed on sometimes as reasons why Chines may go to Korea or Koreans may go to Japan etc..to escape from things we here in the US only see on TV.
Call it the reason why some military come back all screwed up and were never in Vietnam

-Women under age 18 who had an induced abortion have an increased breast cancer risk of 150%.
-Women of age 30 and above who aborted a first pregnancy increase their breast cancer risk by 110%.
-Overall, women who have an induced abortion have an increased breast cancer risk of 50%.

I agree that in the cases of rape or incest, there is NO reason a woman shouldn't be allowed to have an abortion.

I will say the same thing to you pro-lifers that I said to the pro-choicers. Abortion is not just about the baby, but about the mother as well. You have to be able to look at both sides of the issue in order to make an educated, sound decision.

Irene, where did you get your information? As far as I know, this was disproven by scientists with specific studies several years back? I appreciate your passion although we are on opposite sides of this issue but I think it is crucial, as you eloquently point out, to have the correct facts.

I guess i believe the above...
For myself i am Pro-life but i don't think my personal decision should be the decision for every woman in america....

AND i also have never been put in a situation where i had to choose!
I have never been 16 and preggo, I have never been raped etc etc...
Soi really don't think i can know what i would really given those situations!

My husband travels to China quite often (he's an importer) and has Chinese partners that reside in China. The reason why so many Chinese leave the country is because of health care. China's sucks. South Korea & Japan's health care is far superior.

I have numerous friends that did tours in Korea and they came back just fine. I don't think you can compare the effects of doing a tour in Korea to the effects of someone serving in Vietnam.

Yeah, if you twist the words in the pudding around to provide your proof. Sounds like our beloved president actually.

Yeah, ok. Remember, you (or someone else) are the one who said you don't want anyone governing women's bodies, not me. That, in itself, shows me where the concern lies.

Yes of course I am concerned that the government is trying to take our choices about our bodies away from us...why aren't you??

And please don't insult my intelligence by trying to make it seem like my opinion of a woman's right to choose means I don't care about kids.

You know, that comment, that I don't care about kids and that people like me are why kids are screwed up today is very offensive and just as far-fetched as some of your other comments today. Just to give you a brief insight into me and kids...I have a gradute degree in education, I have spent years studying child development and counseling and I used to be a teacher. I know more about the well-being of children and the issues that effect their development than I choose to discuss.

My statement was that children are not better off being born if it means that they will be born to unfit parents and will end up in the system. My opinion is not just something that I made up to argue against pro-life, it is something that I have seen face-to-face in counseling sessions and strongly believe in. Have you ever had to look into a 6 year old's teary eyes when he tells you he jst wants to be normal like other kids but who was also born to a crack addict mother, a father in jail, has no family to love him, who has been shuffled arund different foster homes only to end up back in the state's care? Well, I am guessing that you haven't and I wouldn't wish it on you because it is heartbreaking.

This is not a movie, there is real life out there and for a lot of kids it sucks. And yes, there is always the arguement for adoption but you know what, the bottomline is that well-off white families don't come looking for black crack babies or vica versa. It just doesnt happen.

So, yes my concern is with the kids but I will always feel that it is a woman's right to choose - NOT to use abortion as birth control - but to choose what happens with their own body.

Oh, and I garauntee that if one of the Bush daughters was pregnant as a result of a rape Mr. President would change his tune a little. You'd see how fast hat pregnancy would be terminated.

I ALWAYS said that about the Bush daughters!! You know an 'illigitemate' child would not be born into that family....please.
If I remember correctly Laura Bush does not agree with her husband on this topic but I could be wrong.

you can guarnatee this?? really? i find that interesting, why do you think they would have an abortion? more importantly, why do you think their father would force them to abort the baby that resulted from a rape? what if it wasn't rape? what then?

OHHH goody a topic that I did research about.

When I had an assignment I chose partial birth abortion as my topic..I was surprised to find that many of the aborted 'fetus (babies IMO) are actually SOLD to test labs etc so that they can be used in human experimentation etc. Its a money making industry that is discussed behind closed doors..we woul dnever want to think that happens HERE....And its even better if the baby is closer to term.

I have no problem with someone who has an abortion due to birth defects that are dibilatating..no one should suffer..both parent and child..however I have an issue with people who use it as birth control because their man no longer wants teh baby or they feel they cant take care of it..Guess what..dont have sex then..it comes with consequences and you should be able to handle 'what if'..the exceptions of course are rape, child pregnancy and I mean young like the 10 year olds and 13 year olds..not 15 and 16 year olds and up.

Partial birth abortion after 24 weeks=murder to me unless you have a damn good reason..

Honestly how many partial birth abortions are done in unwanted pregancies? A small number I am sure. Of course I have no study to back that up but I would be most unwanted pregnancies are aborted before the 12 week mark.

Then I bet they would be having the abortion too! Especially if it was years ago when they were younger and starting college or in high school. I think they would do it to save political face.
Would he force them to do it I don't think so but I am sure he would go right along with the plan, maybe even be a little coersive.

c'mon, who's kiding who here...do you really think that if one of them were raped and kept the illigitimate baby it would be a welcome addition to the Bush's Sunday mass? Do you truly think that the unwed and pregnant daughter of the president wouldn go unnoticed and would be approved by his staunch Republican buddies who have verbally declared their disapproval for unwed pregnant women? Doubtful to say the least.

but he so opposes abortion, i don't think that he would let one of his own go through with it, even in the most extreme of circumstances.

Re: Sensitive topic but curious to know..

I am pro choice because I believe a 60ish senator from the mid west doesn't know what's best for me but I also believe that it shouldn't be taken for granted and used because someone was caught up in the moment and didn't have time for a condom. I use to do clinic defense and I saw first hand both sides of the topic. I escorted a 13 year old that was raped by her grandfather into a clinic and I was spit on and an older man and woman tried to punch me and the girl. I think the most important reason it shouldn't be outlawed is because it will then turn back the clock on abortion to a time where woman had to risk there lives in a back alley abortion clinic by people that werent trained you will have woman dying needlessly and becoming severely disfigured or babies being born without limbs. i never get involved in this controversal threads but this is an issue i feel really strong about and laid my body down infront of the holland tunnel in support of my views . that of course was in my younger political days
