Sensitive topic but curious to know..

Original post by Johnny&Maur

I know..i'm not exactly make the boards less controversial...but I'm not asking this to start controversy, but rather just for my own knowledge...

Does anyone consider themselves to be pro-life? As someone who is pro-life with reservations (i think should be ok in cases of rape, incest, & endangerment to the mother) I just always feel in the minority. Which i know i am...I grew up in a big irish catholic family who ingrained in my head that life began at conception..and that every life is precious. I am trying to figure out things for myself, and really understand my views...

One thing i'd like to add is that i would never press my beliefs upon someone else-I know abortion is one of the hardest things a woman could ever decide to do. Just wanted to know if anyone felt similar to me in their own personal belief system?

-Women under age 18 who had an induced abortion have an increased breast cancer risk of 150%.
-Women of age 30 and above who aborted a first pregnancy increase their breast cancer risk by 110%.
-Overall, women who have an induced abortion have an increased breast cancer risk of 50%.

Without stating my opinion on abortion, I just want to remind everyone that statistics like these, whether accurate or not are often misleading. Just becuase there is a correlation between two events occuring does NOT imply A caused B. There are so many extraneous factors involved. Research findings are often presented in a misleading manner so that the public things that there is a causal relationship between two factors.

As I learned in all of my stats classes: Correlation does not imply Causation!

Thank you. I have been wanting to say this but would not have written it so well.

There are no studies that show that abortion directly leads to cancer. What studies have shown, however, is that not having a child (i.e. because of induced abortion or miscarriage) by a certain age can increase a woman's risk of cancer. The abortion procedure itself does not increase susceptibility to disease.

I am pro choice but the line become blurred at Partial birth..

Its amazing that when someone is going to have a surgery they get so much info on the actual procedure but all you get is hand holding when you go for an abortion. I saw the film 'A silent scream' of an actual abortion being performed..there is nothing humane about it..and what scares me is the babies who survive after a botched abortion..tears just come to my eyes and I know that if I evr have an abortion it will be the hardest decsion i make. I have friends who have gone through it and I feel bad for them..they are haunted by the experience ..some wish they coul dturn back the hands of time.

I even have one who uses abortion like it is birth control..and we are no longer friends..she called to tell me she is having problems trying to conceive now at an age she is ready..I HUNG UP THE PHONE.

Wow! I haven't heard that since grad school. Very true statement. So many people make that mistake.

I am pro choice, however, I am anti-abortion because I am tired of women using abortion as a form of birth control. No, I have not had an abortion and in fact, I cannot have children. However, I am a high school teacher and each year there are so many students that have multiple abortions. The saddest part is that they think it is okay and no big deal.

Education is most important. Women need to take charge of their bodies and understand the consequences of their actions.

I also support mandatory tubal ligations for drug addicts that continue to have children that get dumped in the system and have serious cognative deficits. These poor children wind up going up in group homes and have trouble adjusting to society. In my neighborhood there are 3 junkies that have had at least 10 children in the last 8 years. What kind of life is that for a child?

W.R thats how I feel.

The women who actually need abortions are not nearly as high as those who do it out of convenience. But punishment comes in subtle ways..I feel bad for those who have nightmares because they had no choiceetc..but for the ones who do it as birth control..I hope its like a shadow that follows them till their own death.

No one has to say it, the proof is in the pudding.

My boss is in the process of going to China to adopt a baby because there aren't enough here to go around. Are you going to tell me that a newborn baby isn't going to get a loving home. There are people willing to pay 10's of thousands of dollars to have a child. Why do they have to go to Timbuktu too get them? the simple thing is these people (men and women) don't care enough about anything, let alone a child. If you get to the point where the baby is more than 1/2 baked, give it up, don't kill it. Again, I am not talking about all abortions, just late term ones.

There aren't enough babies here to go around!?!? There are thousands of children in foster care and group homes waiting to be adopted. Maybe you should ask your boss again why she opted for China.

Haha! Please note, I said babies, not children. BABIES. everyone's going to China becuase over there they kill the little girls because they are only allowed to have one child. So now the people having babies over there are adopting out to US citizens who want newborns. that's why I said babies. I know htere are loads of older kids in the US.

There are plenty of infants available for adoption. Many people just don't want 'minority' babies or those where the mother was a drug abuser because of the expensive and heartbreaking health risks imposed on the baby.

Jenny I respect you opinion but I have mine. Yes there are the rate for minority children not being adopted is high..but the paperwork to get a child needs to be improved as well. There are countless red tape in place to try to match a couple with the appropriate child that some just dont meet the criteria..all of these are issues that I am very knowledgeable about..

Personally I dont htink I can get upset if someone doesnt want to take on the responsibility of a drug affected or dibilated baby...its a personal preference that each is entitled to.

Um, hidstorically they have. Many people wanted boys to carry on the family name, but if they had girls, they were thrown away or killed.

And, when I was in the system, there weren't many babies around. Most toddlers and older. Newborns are the first to go. Maybe that has changed now, but I wouldn't know.

You know what. If I am wrong, then prove me wrong. There has been a movement for people to go to China to adopt the girls because no one wants them. It used to be in the newspapers not that long ago.

I'm not the only one who read the news in highschool what I?

Listen to this info from someone who knows..yes little girls are killed..just becasue we dont see it plastered on CNN does not mean that it doesnt happen. Its just not publicized as much or occurs as frequently as it did in the past..

Its kind of like Korea when the soldiers get sweet innocent korean girls pregnant..many have been known to kill themself and the child ..once again not exactly plastered all over the news.

China is not like it used to be. It is quite modernized now. (not all of it, but a great deal) It's not considered unacceptable to have 2 children (or a girl for that matter) anymore.

May I inquire as to how you know China kills little girls?
