Actually, many partial birth abortions are due to the increasing use of sophisticated genetic testing. Parents find out late in the pregnancy that their baby is retarded, has Downs or another physical disability and then decide that they do not want to carry it to term....even though it is nearly born.

Back that up with unbiased facts - instead of opinion.

I guess if I offer anything that you find troubling, it is 'biased.' I stated this because I represent clinical laboratories and have heard this anecdotally from ob/gyns, pathologist and other medical fields that serve as experts on my cases. It's also in their reports but I am not going to dig up the files to provide you with complete references so that you believe me.

My question is this: many pro-life supporters believe that because abortion is taking a life, but what of that quality of that life? Do you believe it is better that an unwanted child be born to a parent that will resent and mistreat them? What kind of life is that? Is it better to be put through the system, in foster care, moved from house to house with no stability? Is that better for the child? Is that a better life than none at all? Not in my opinion.

.

Well, I have no clue as to the cancer/abortion link. But, I did want to comment on this post.

Who are we to evaluate what lives are and what lives are not worth living?? You do not dispute that it is the taking of a life, i.e. murder, but you feel that women are able to determine whether that life is worth living.

I know a social worker in a Bronx HS. She routinely counsels about safe sex and that seems to be routinely ignored by many of her clients. In such circumstances, she strongly advocates abortion. She claims that she is doing the student and society a favor because the baby has 'no chance' and everyone is better off without these 'burdens'. Who knew that an MSW made you God and able to determine what lives are worth living?? I'm sorry but I think that this is not only an arrogant but a rascist position. (99% of the school is black.)

Where is the hope? I think every baby deserves a chance....even if the odds are stacked against them. Even a child from the ghetto can grow up to do great things and have a happy life. I strongly disagree that a lack of money or supportive parents means that you do not have a right to be born. I think that this argument proffered by the pro-abortion movement is wholly without merit.

Nowhere did I say that I agree abortion is taking of a life - when I said what of the quality of life I meant, although I did not specifically state it, AFTER BIRTH. I realize that some people can rise above adversity and do great things regardless of their background, but I KNOW from personal experience people whose lives basically didn't amount to crap and it all stemmed from the neglect and abuse they suffered as children.
I've seen people grow up and treat their children the same way. I also know of a few who never got the chance to grow up because they didn't make it that far. I honestly believe no life at all is better. I was serious when I said no one could ever change my stance.

No one ever said I didn't give a **** about kids!!! It is the exact opposite...I care so much about kids that I wouldn't want to see even one be born if they are unwanted and end up as a statistic. What are you going to say next, that the government should reinforce orphanages???

No one has to say it, the proof is in the pudding.

My boss is in the process of going to China to adopt a baby because there aren't enough here to go around. Are you going to tell me that a newborn baby isn't going to get a loving home. There are people willing to pay 10's of thousands of dollars to have a child. Why do they have to go to Timbuktu too get them? the simple thing is these people (men and women) don't care enough about anything, let alone a child. If you get to the point where the baby is more than 1/2 baked, give it up, don't kill it. Again, I am not talking about all abortions, just late term ones.

No, I am rather open to hearing facts. Too bad you don't have any literature or bonafied studies to back that up. I would have been interested in reading it.

PS - Being a representative for these people, then you also know that PBA is NOT a medical term........

Sorry if I find your use of it and your assertations a little hard to digest.

Yeah, if you twist the words in the pudding around to provide your proof. Sounds like our beloved president actually.

Unfortunately, according to many reputable organizations in the cancer field (for the 4th time!!!), there is NO link between abortion and breast cancer. None, zero, zilch.

There is also no link between asbestos and cancer either. Oh, wait, we know how that went.

Yeah, ok. Remember, you (or someone else) are the one who said you don't want anyone governing women's bodies, not me. That, in itself, shows me where the concern lies.

Not sure where you got that little gem from.

Like the title of this thread, I too am curious. There are two things I don't understand:

For those that argue that most people having partial birth abortions do so because they have discovered some sort of genetic disease...what is the difference between killing the baby when it is at a point that it could live outside the mother's body and killing the baby when it is born.

Second, Kerry is a Catholic. I'm not sure how I can reconcile that with the fact that he supports partial birth abortion.

If anyone has any opinions on this, I am interested in hearing them.

A long time ago the argument was asbestos doesn't cause cancer. Similar to the whole abortion/cancer thing. I guess my point is, not everything is what it seems.

Where did you hear that? He is against 'PBA' except under certain circumstances.

People can argue till they're blue in the face when it comes to opinion. Back the opinion up with reputable facts and that's a whole other story.

Re: Sensitive topic but curious to know..

OHHH goody a topic that I did research about.

When I had an assignment I chose partial birth abortion as my topic..I was surprised to find that many of the aborted 'fetus (babies IMO) are actually SOLD to test labs etc so that they can be used in human experimentation etc. Its a money making industry that is discussed behind closed doors..we woul dnever want to think that happens HERE....And its even better if the baby is closer to term.

I have no problem with someone who has an abortion due to birth defects that are dibilatating..no one should suffer..both parent and child..however I have an issue with people who use it as birth control because their man no longer wants teh baby or they feel they cant take care of it..Guess what..dont have sex then..it comes with consequences and you should be able to handle 'what if'..the exceptions of course are rape, child pregnancy and I mean young like the 10 year olds and 13 year olds..not 15 and 16 year olds and up.

Partial birth abortion after 24 weeks=murder to me unless you have a damn good reason..

Would that be the asbestos comment or the abortion/cancer coincidence?

Sorry if I sound flip, but I can't take your word over organizations who have been studying cancer for decades. Coincidence, however, is another story.

-Women under age 18 who had an induced abortion have an increased breast cancer risk of 150%.
-Women of age 30 and above who aborted a first pregnancy increase their breast cancer risk by 110%.
-Overall, women who have an induced abortion have an increased breast cancer risk of 50%.

Without stating my opinion on abortion, I just want to remind everyone that statistics like these, whether accurate or not are often misleading. Just becuase there is a correlation between two events occuring does NOT imply A caused B. There are so many extraneous factors involved. Research findings are often presented in a misleading manner so that the public thinks that there is a causal relationship between two factors.

As I learned in all of my stats classes: Correlation does not imply Causation!

I have trouble understanding those who are Pro-Life but yet say abortion is ok in the situation of rape and/or incest. What makes that unborn baby different from one that was an 'oops'? Isn't it about the life, not how it happened, making abortion under any circumstances wrong?

I am 100% Pro-Life and I don't understand this reasoning either.

Posted by becks23

I personally think the term Pro-Life is a big misnomer. People that do not believe woman should have the right to choose what to do with their own bodies, they are not Pro-Life, they are Anti-Choice.

JMHO.

Just as I feel that it is either Pro-Life or Anti-Life.

Don't worry, I didn't either so I don't expect you to.

But there was a study done about this at Massapequa General Hospital (yes, that's a real hospital) about 6 years ago. I dont know if there is any live info on it, but if there is, it could be interesting to ya. I have to go home now.
