Should adults be allowed to attend a movie w/out kids at 'R' movies

Original post by wacky

I know I will be bashed for this.

We went to the movies this weekend sat night showing. R rated movie, there were so many freaking kids their. OF course they had to leave the theater 40 freaking times, cause they had to eat all the damn crap they could.

I turned around to Paul and said they should have certain movie times ADULT ONLY on R rated movies. My husband said I was nuts, but of course I dont think so.

What do you think? Movie theaters should have certain movie times for adults only?

I thought R was you can go in with an adult and NC-17 was no children under 17 at all.

I don't know but I REALLY agree!!!

I always get the kids who are SOO cool gotta talk smack all night 'F' you Fing B'.. blah blah.. Im mean my god, cuss with style not just spurting out stupidity. It's annoying as hell. 'HOLY F'Ing Sh!t, MotherF'er you see that As$hole, pull da Sh!t?' Yes I saw it and it really wasnt That dramatic. *sigh*

Or the girls who MUST talk anything OTHER than the movie.

Or the kids who's parents only brought cause they found no babysitter 'SHUT UP! SIT DOWN! You stop it RIGHT this minute!' blah blah. They scream half of the movie at these kids who don't want to be there.

Let's not start on...
Burping contests
Joke contests (laughing over stupid crap)
LASER LIGHT

Totally agree with you!!! I can't stand going to the movies so that's why I wait for the DVD to come out or rent it from InDemand.

R- no one under 17 and that is the way it should be. I cannot remember what movie it was, I think American Pie we went to see it- it was a packed show and guess who was sitting in front of me? SOme of my students. I was so uncomfortable watching those scenes with them in the theater, I wanted to say to their parents what are you thinking.

R- no one under 17 PERIOD!

I think if a parent feels like the movie is important to see...I'm thinking Passion of the Christ - Schindler's List type movies...then they should accompany them (isn't that want Rated R is? a parent or adult guardian...

I do think movie theatres are very lackadaisical when checking ages for rated R movies...

this is where the problem lies...the theatre shouldn't be letting most of these kids in...

the directors seat sounds like a good option...but i think it is also saying that 'we let in underage children...so pay us $1 more for not doing our job'

although I did get asked for an ID when seeing Varsity Blues...and I was 25!!!!!

hmm.... R rated movies.. allow kids with a parent...

it would make sense if they said like 'allow kids with parents upto 7pm..'....after all shouldnt kids be in bed at a certian time anyways?

What about if you are at a slasher movie???????

I almost passed out when my friend told me her son was going to be the Scream guy @ the age of 9 or 10. I asked how he even knew who he was & she said 'Oh I let him see it??' WHAT????????

Yeah you know, thats what the problem is. Parents make all this whopla about bs then what really matters they want teachers, public official and the govt to step in

I HATE, HATE, HATE when parents bring young children into R rated movies!! I have actually complained about it.

2 examples:
-I saw Saving Private Ryan with a 2-3 year old screaming, crying, scared out of his mind the whole time. I even said LOUDLY 'What is wrong with this women' went out of the theatre and told the manager. He came in, heard the poor child and told the mother that she couldn't keep a crying child in the theatre. She huffed and left. Her poor child was watching men get their arms and legs blow off! What is wrong with her.

-We were watching Gladiator and about 20 minutes into the movie 2 adults and 3 kids came in. And the kid said, 'Mommy are we allowed to see 2 movies?' So now the mother is teaching her child to theatre hop...great. They asked questions every 3 minutes since they didn't understand anything about the movie and then the little one, maybe 3-4, cried and was afraid that people were getting hurt and asked 'please can we go home' I was Pi$$ed so I went out and told the manager. He came in and asked for their tickets and they were asked to leave the theatre. Poor little ones probably had nightmares.

So yes....keep young children OUT of adult movies.

Passion of the Christ is NOT for child though. Neither is Schilnder's List IMO. Maybe a teenager, but not a 8 year old. There are MANY other educational tools to teach about Christ and the Holocust IMO. Use age apporiate movies.

I agree maybe not for an 8 year old...but I do think it is absolutely appropriate to show it to teens

I think in the new theater in Holtsville (Island 16 I think it's called)...they have theaters for adults only. I think it's called the directors chair...or something like that. They have the same movie in different theaters and one is adults only...for only a few movies...probably the new ones. Also..I think it's $1-$2 more...but it's probably worth it. I have only been there once though....

No depending on the movie anyone can buy the directors seats...
