Should I be upset?

Original post by jovigirl414

I'm not sure what to think right now ...

I told FMIL the colors of the wedding months ago, and then corrected her numerous times since. I've also made it VERY clear that wearing black to your son/daughter's wedding is a sign that you disapprove, and I made sure to say this in front of all the parents at the same time ...

Can you guess what color pants she just bought?

She plans on wearing a lilac top, so I'm not sure what to think here ... I read her email telling me this at my mother's dinner table, and all she did was shake her head. FH seems to think its not such an issue though.

What do you ladies think?

ETA: I just wrote back to her, only saying 'what made you change your mind' in regard to her going from a gown to pants. Good?

haaa i am laughing at this bc i am doing a black and white wedding so both mom's and my g-ma are wearing all black :) i guess it is a ny thing.
opps!

Def a NY thing. My aunt had a black and white wedding and it was GORGEOUS.

Black pants are kind of a staple when it comes to wardrobe, especially for older women. She probably just feels black pants will match with anything, and at least she chose a lavender top. However, I do find it weird that shes wearing black pants instead of a gown or dress.....pants are very casual for a MOG.

i was just going to ask you if she was wearing pants or a skirt since she was wearing a lilac top. are you sure she is wearing pants?
either way, i think pants are not elegant enough for your childs wedding and i would be upset, but in the end, she will make herelf look stupid and will make your mom look all the better for wearing a beauitful gown.

is this true?!? my FMIL asked me if there was anything inparticular i wanted her to get in a dress (style, color, etc)... i just said floor length, but anything else would be fine. after finding a dress in black, she asked if that was okay, and truthfully, i thought it would look nice - elegant and formal.

do you think people will think that she's trying to make a statement? she could not be happier about our upcoming marriage, and i'd hate for people to think otherwise.

i think it ight be more of a cultural thing. my mom and my FH's mom would never wear black because it would be an outward sign of dissaproval for our lack of spouse.

My fmil tried buying a white dress w/ silver beading 3 weeks ago!! FH yelled at her and that's the only reason why she didn't! It could always be worse!!

Ummm, black would be theleast of my concerns....considering she's wearing freaking PANTS?!?! I'm sorry, but what the hell kind of woman wears pants to a wedding?!?!? Let alone her own son's wedding!!

I'm sorry girl, but if it were me, it would be a no go. You don't do that. How informal and inappropriate!

HAHAHAHHHA, I know!!
