should I cut off my train?

I am really happy with my dress, and the chapel train is nice, it has some nice embroidery on it - but I'm not really into trains and I did not like any of the bustle styles they tried - I think I will be more comfortable if I just cut it off, maybe into a little sweep and that's it. Please cut and paste to see the dress and give your opinion, thanks!
cut and paste the entire address below, thanks!

Re: should I cut off my train?

I am not a train person either. When I first tried on the gowns that had them, I found it to be very heavy. I have come to the conclusion that I am a 'sweep' bride. The gown is beautiful. That is something I would have chose. Best of luck!

Re: should I cut off my train?

I would cut the train. Like I said, I am more of a sweep train person. So no offense to any body that has them. I just feel a bit weighted with one.

Re: should I cut off my train?

No offense taken Jen
But I do know what you mean. I am having a train, but that is one of the main reasons I am wearing a chiffon dress, it is very light and doesn't weigh down at all. I am also going to have a chiffon veil made.

Jpsgirl: You have to wear the dress, and you need to be comfortable in it. If changing the train to a sweep style will accomplish that , I say go right ahead !!!!!!! The dress will still be beautiful.

Re: should I cut off my train?

I am having my chapel train cut off. I too am not really a train person, and it does feel so much heavier with the bustle. I thought I would be more comfortable that way. I think people do that more now than before. I'm sure whatever you decide it will be beautiful.

Re: should I cut off my train?

I am having my cathedral train cut off and being made into a chapel detachable train. Hated how the dress looked bustled and don't like trains in general. My dress has a pretty train, so I'll have it for ceremony and then take it off for reception. If you need to decide before buying the dress, I suggest you contact your alterations person (mine will be Karin Y.) and ask what she can do. Karin will put snaps onto the dress and the train (they are clear color) and she really knows what she is talking about.

Re: should I cut off my train?

I never wanted a train, I've never like them. But... now I have a Cathedral Train. It's the only dress I fell in love with. I'm doing a french bustle. I don't like the standard bustles either. If you leave it as only a sweep train, you can't bustle that at all, right? It would drag on the ground??? If you really don't like it, go ahead and cut it off! I almost did! Good luck!

Re: should I cut off my train?

The dress is beautiful and I think it would be even more elegant if you cut the train off - it just looks like that is the way it is suppose to be. I see you bought it at David's Bridal, that is where I bought my dress - from what I heard I would not get your alterations done there. Best of luck to you!

Re: should I cut off my train?

I agree with Kittyke re: Davids alterations. I also got my dress from Davids, but am having it altered by a woman who works in a bridal salon and also out of her house. I too have heard horror stories about Davids and alterations.
She was remomended from these boards. she is located in Ronkonkoma. If you need her info just let me know. I don't have it on me here at work, but will get it for you.

Re: should I cut off my train?

I faced the same dilemma. I didn't really want a train and bought my dress fully intending to have the train cut off. But when I went to my fitting, I realized that the dress really wouldn't look good without the train because of the pleats it has in the back. So I agreed to keep it and do a bustle, although I'm not exactly thrilled with my decision. But I know I also would have had second thoughts about cutting off the train entirely and I didn't really want to do a sweep train because I didn't want it dragging on the floor. Sorry I couldn't be of more help...but my advice would be to look at the back of the dress and figure out if cutting off the train will work with the dress. If so, then I would do it. I know I would have cut off my train if it would have looked okay.

Re: should I cut off my train?

i say do whatever makes you feel best, not what everyone else does. don't feel you are supposed to have a train.
yabbobay cut off her train and her dress was stunning!

Re: should I cut off my train?

I'm really surprised that so many girls don't like the train, I personally love the train on a wedding gown, my dress has a cathedral train and I want a french bustle. This is just my preference do what you feel you would love more. Best of luck!

Re: should I cut off my train?

I always did want a train, I like traditional things. Just when she bustled the train, french wasn't good because it just hid all of the embroidery anyway, and the two other ways made the dress 'poof' out on the sides, and that annoyed me, aside from being really really heavy.
