Should we be honest with our Priest?

Original post by prettykitty831

My Fiance and I are planning to be married in a catholic church on 10/10/10 but we've hit a few road blocks....
I know it's not favorable in the church's eyes to be living together before you are married but times are different now and we do live together. A few of my friends who were in the same situation when they got married assured us that it would be OK to be honest about that with the priest at our interview and during pre cana. Well boy were they wrong! We went to OLPH church in Lindenhurst and interviewed with Father Kline. When we told him that we live together he started to twitch and told us that we were living in sin and did not want to be a part of our marriage unless we lived seperately until our wedding. It turns out that the church isn't available for our wedding day anyway. Wish I would've known that before being barraded! Apparently OLPH is a very old school parish but now we are nervous to be so honest with the next church. Tonight we are meeting with Father Rene at St. Joseph's in Ronkonkoma and Tomorrow night we are meeting with Father Francis at St. Joseph's in Kings Park.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated : )
Thanks!

IMO the church has NO place to tell you that they arent going to marry you b/c you live together

Actually they do...

Why should they have to marry people who are not following the tenets of the faith?

I have a lot of problems with the Catholic church in general, which is why I am not getting married there.

They do ask for your address and then for his address as well... so even if they don't directly ask you they will know unless you have him say a diff address.

FFIL is a deacon and will be marrying us. He put FH old address (his parents) as his address. So it looks like we aren't living together.

FBIL got married while his chick was preggo... they had to do A LOT more counseling with the church before getting married... more than just the pre cana.

I think overall it depends on the church and how strict they are. Some might not be as bad as others but I'm sure in some way they will all look down on you for it.. considering it's 'sin' in their eyes as all.

Although times change the church doesn't in some areas. So unfortunately you won't know until you go and interview there. Maybe if you just don't say that you live together or not.. but give his parents address as his and your add as yours then it will appear that you live seperately.

I wouldnt lie because when you go for the FOCCUS test there is a section on the test for incohabitating couples, If you lie you will have to skip that part of the test.

We did not lie nor did they ask
