General shower question – are you giving your mom/MOH /anyone a general guest list of who to invite? It so – what is average, how many people are you limiting it to? As of now – my mother is insisting certain people get invited to the shower… her friends – 2 of which I haven’t seen since I was about 6. she is insisting that everyone on her list get invited, while FH is cutting his side for the shower (all out of state family got cut from his side) I was thinking that 50 seems average from everyone I have talked to. And that would be JUST family and BP. I would like to have a table of close friends there too (8 maybe?)
What is the average number invited to a shower? So I know before I give the list to my MOH

I just dont want the BP and my mom and FMIL to go crazy having to pay for the shower b/c of all teh people invited. thats y i m trying to keep it low.

I just had this convo with my mom bc she is the one throwing my shower. She doesn't want me to know ANYTHING but she told me that she has to guarentee 50 people so we made a list together of about 65 people.

i only have 25 people on my list! I gave a list to my mom and she will be in touch with my bm's to plan the shower!

I will probably give my mom and sister (moh) a list of people. we have a huge family and huge wedding guest list as it is so we are trying to keep it between 50 and 60. I alreayd know my neighbor is having it, and her yard is huge!

m i being unreasonable though for wanting 8 of my close friends at the shower? that woudl make it over 50, but I dont want to make it too costly for the girls.
I honestly think my mother is crazy when she expected that the entire wedding guestlist of people would be invited to the shower ( we have about 280 invited - so cut that in half and say 140 for the shower! ) I think that a little nutso!

Between my FH's ridiculously large family and mine, my shower list is for 90 people!
That's without inviting people out of state!!
We are expecting around 70

well everyone around me seems to think that every lady invited to the wedding also needs to be invited to the shower...so my guess is that my list will be around 75, but I don't think I need to invite the OOT people because they won't come anyway.

that must be what they did in teh past or something. bc i have been invited to plenty of weddings without an invite to the shower, adn i have seen it many times when I was in the BP that not everyone on the wedding guestlist was invited to the shower!

I guess it also depends on the size of your wedding invite list. I'm inviting 225 to the wedding, and I think my shower list is between 40 and 50.

Well i guess it depends on the size of your wedding.. I am inviting all of my CA family and friends to my CA one and hoping to have one in NY too with less people...
I only have 75 total guests though at the wedding..
I would say limit it to immediate family and close close friends (no coworkers - because they can throw one at work maybe)

I really REALLY want a jack and jill shower (my brother did, it was awesome) but with our invites up to almost 300, I'm not sure this will be possible =(
If it's just the females it'll be close to 80-90 ppl I'm guessing! AHHHHH...but my wedding is far off still so no real thoughts about it yet
But I think the average is about 50

I gave my shower list to my MOHs, BMs, and mom. I asked my mom how many people since it's going to be at her house and she told me to try and keep it under 50... the list came out to 45 so we're all set.

Yikes. It's your shower though. It should be about you, not her friends. Your friends should come first. Is she throwing you the shower or your BM? Make the guest list yourself if she's not throwing it for you. You shouldn't have to sacrifice having your friends over hers.

the BM are paying for it. that's why I was trying to limit it to 50 for the shower. which is hard enough as it is with the friends, but with each side of the family (his and mine) and the BP, it is around 50 now. and IMO I would think the wives of the GM should be invited (I am close with them also)
now my mom got pissed and emailed me her guestlist of 9 people... ok mom.. ill trim your side down to 9. shes being crazy and immature right now. i really have to put my foot down at some point though.
