Although some people may be into it...For all those who dread boring ur guests by opening up a million gifts at your shower...I told my BM's to put on the invite...'please do not wrap your gifts.' They are going to be displayed on tables with the person's name on a placecard in front. This way we can focus on having a good time and no boring downtime. What do you think?

Re: Shower idea -- no wrapping paper
thanks for all the opinions... I thought of this idea in the first place b/c so many people dread going to showers b/c they are boring...and I have people coming from kinda far away so I don't want them to not want to come and then to be bored. How many times are you really excited about going to a shower? (unless it's a close friend). I have a lot of young people coming and I think my BM's are planning something very different and fun for my shower....at least that's what my FH says. So I think there is going to be some kind of entertainment...or activity to do that will take the place of the gift opening. I guess I will find out when the time comes. NinChris07 --I guess I can see your point, but It's not really a materialistic thing...i could care less about gifts I get....I put off registering as long as I could b/c I have no desire to get blenders and toasters...I am not a kitchen person and my FH has everything anyway. So I guess the point of this shower and not sitting there opening gifts would be to not dwell on the gifts and focus more on being with the girls I guess. -----thanks again for ur advice everyone.

Re: Shower idea -- no wrapping paper
From someone who had a display shower, I thought it was great and so did my guests! I had people travel from long distances to be at my shower and they loved that they got to spend hours with me and not hours watching me open presents. It was more important for me to spend time with my guests then having to rush through opening presents. All of the presents were displayed with place cards in front of them and all of my guests loved walking around and seeing everything and who it was from. Alot of my guests even commented on how it was the best shower they have ever been to because it was a big party with no stress and pressure! To each his own though!

I don't think you are being materialistic at all (its the same materials that are wrapped or not wrapped) - I guess that was my way of describing how people view it - just because I have heard the comments people have made when they get invites that say that.
that being said, its your wedding, your shower - and those comments shouldn't bother you.
also, I agree with you in that I have been to some boring dreadful showers (I guess I am off the high of how great mine was!) but before I had mine I said, showers are really not that fun - so do what you can to make it fun!
I was just trying to share how people might view it

Re: Shower idea -- no wrapping paper
I think that's a great idea. At all the bridal showers I've been to, the bride doesn't even open up her gifts---the BMs do it to speed up time. She just reads the card and says who the gift is from.
I've told my mom to write 'no gift wrapping please' on the invitations and I'm thinking just to say who each gift is from---some people want to be 'recognized', lol.

Re: Shower idea -- no wrapping paper
I was joking about this exact thing around Christmas time....we got it from how the charity toy drive signs say to 'please bring an unwrapped gift'. We thought it was funny & I didn't realize you could actually do this ?!?!

Re: Shower idea -- no wrapping paper
At first I thought what a great idea, then I thought, Damn some people are not gonna be happy if I asked for this! I have been to a 100+ person shower 3+ hours to open gifts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank God I was still drinking back then! Anyway, I like the idea of having the BP help with the gifts to speed up the process and have games during it to keep everyone involved and entertained. I think a lot of women are invited so I don't want the guests to be 'bored' watching me open gifts. I like to see people open my gift, but if there are 100 other people there, thats 100 gifts I have to watch open and sometimes it's more than one package to open. Good Luck with your decision and can't wait to hear how anyone having a Display Shower goes over!

I love the idea. It took such a long time to open gifts and everyone looked so bored at my shower.

Re: Shower idea -- no wrapping paper
My cousin did this - she put on the invitation to qrap the gift in cellophane clear paper. It was a co-ed shower
I personally do not like this idea. I think the whole point of a shower is to open gifts and for your guests to see everything you got.
I had abt 110 ppl at my shower, and my bridal party opened every single gift. I even announced the money gifts. (Not the amt of money, but that so and so gave me money). The shower was from 12-5, and we started opening the gifts at 2:30 in between meals.

I agree. People know that part of a shower is opening gifts. If they don't like that, they either won't come, or send a gift. I think it's ungrateful to just display them and not specially acknowledge the gift. It's like, bring me a present, that's all I want you to show up for, but I don't want to be bothered to open it and acknowledge it. You know how they have toy drives at Christmas? It makes it seem like it's a gift drive. That's just my opinion.

Re: Shower idea -- no wrapping paper
I totaly agree! Everyone hate's showers - no one feels like sitting there for hours. That is definitely what I am gong to do. Any suggesions on how to word the invitation?
