So i'm going today to try on dresses for the first time. I brought some pics from magazines into work to show the girls some of the ones that have caught my eye. I was just told 'It's too simple'. Here's my thing -- I know it's my wedding day and a once in a lifetime thing but I'm not a flashy person. Most of the dresses I liked are somewhat simple - not much beading - not poofy. But it will still be a wedding dress!! Anyone else get these reaction???

Re: Simple wedding dresses
Actually, I get the opposite because I have really flashy taste. I can go really overboard if people don't tell me to pip it down. But damn it, it's my one and only wedding day and I am damn well going to do whatever I want and so should you. This is how I reply when offered unsolicited comments: 'Well, it is my one day to do what I want and this is what I want and I am going to have it. When you have your wedding (or when you had your wedding) you did what you wanted and I am going to do the same' They never really have much to say to that because it is true. Just remember that its all about what you want!

Re: Simple wedding dresses
Believe me...I ended up getting a dress without a stitch of beading or sparkle and it looks stunning..it is actually really different and you would be surprised how they look like wedding dresses...
i am not flashy in that sense either so go with your instinct but try everything on...who knows what you will end up with..

Get what you want! Its your day and sometimes people are jealous of you and tell you things to hurt your feelings. I would be open to trying on dresses even it you think you wont like them. Sometimes its the dress you never thought you would try on. That happened to me. I fell in love wiht something that wasnt my style but when I had it on it worked and I felt like a princess!!

Re: Simple wedding dresses
The 2 times I went dress shopping everything that I tried on and liked didn't have any beading... and thats what I loved about them. i didn't expect that i would... I always thought I would want one with heavy beading.
My Mom kept giving me the beaded ones and making me try them on... they looked OK... I mean they were really beautiful... just not for me though.
So I think you should try on every style and see which you like the best... you may surprise yourself!

First off, don't listen to anyones comments. Who cares what they think- it's YOUR wedding and it's all about YOU- not them.
With that said- you like plain beautiful gowns. Check out Marisa dresses. They use luxurious fabrics and are such stunning dresses without having any of the beading or poofyness. My Sister and Friend both wore Marisa dresses. They both had that type of style you are looking for. Bridal Reflections carries Marisa gowns.

It YOUR wedding you wear what you want!!!!!!
My office manger was looking at my picture and tried to guess what I picked and on MY dress said 'you def didn't pick that one'...... I was like yea and I love it!!!! She tried to take her FOOT out of her mouth, it was pretty funny
Try the one you picked but also try someones that you wouldn't think of trying. You might be surprised you might get something that you never thought you'd get.......

i like plain to - get what you like, who cares what anyone else thinks - i get the same comments when it comes to hair and make up though - i think that i want more simple and plain, still glam but natural - and people think thats boring - i think its beautiful though - point is, get what you like, screw everyone else

Yes.....I feel like if you dont go for the princess poof with tons of beading and rhinestones you get looks. My dress is very different from they typical dress so just go with what you want. It makes me so mad when people are so rude and give opinions that put your ideas down. I am sure that what you have in mind will look fantastic and you will be very happy

Re: Simple wedding dresses
go for what you love...if you like something more simple there is nothing wrong with that! I agree to definitely look at Marisa dresses as well as Paloma Blanca gowns. Paloma Blanca has some of the most fabulous gowns I have ever seen. What kind of style do you want? I love looking up gowns! I will post some pics!

I've been looking at halter top gowns but am not opposed to strapless. Simple bead work if any, I looooove satin. Trying to stay away from crinalin (sp?) because I feel like it will make me too hot!!

Re: Simple wedding dresses
I felt the same way as you. I ended up finding a gown that was very simple with a little beading on the bodice and bottom. Nevermind what other people have to say - go ahead and try on those dresses and if you LOVE it, everyone else will too And you will look like a beautiful bride with or without all the embellishments.

Re: Simple wedding dresses
you are the one that has to be happy. one of the prettiest dresses I tried on had zero beading or lace....and it was gorgeous.....as long as you are happy with the dress that's all that matters.

Re: Simple wedding dresses
At first, I went for the simple look. Then, I started trying on dresses and picked something that was the total opposite. I went for the WOW factor

Re: Simple wedding dresses
I chose a really simple dress and did a Mantilla to add some sparkle. I had no beading or sequins or beads, just a few pick-ups. Some people thought it was too simple, but they aren't me and I love my dress. You do whatever you want as long as you are happy!!

Re: Simple wedding dresses
I did the same thing. My dress is very simple as well. I am a plain Jane and I just wanted simplicity. I have a MAntilla as well and it look so nice with me dress. You have to rememeber. It is YOUR day and as long as YOU and your FH are happy that is all matters. Tell everyone to mind their own business. Everyone got to do it their way for their day and so should you. Go for it!!

My dress was Paloma Blanca! I love simple and elegant made from good quality (ex: simple invites on linen paper, a beautiful solitaire e-ring, etc). My wedding dress was A-line with subtle pickups, made from raw silk, with a bit of lace and a few beads/pearls up top and buttons over the zipper. I dont think I've seen anyone else on here even try it on, let alone wear it, but it was different and very 'me' -- I tried on a million wedding dresses with an open mind and eventually narrowed it down....
no satin, no ballgown skirt (looked ridiculous on me), didnt want the top and bottom to look like 2 separate pieces, no embroidery on the skirt, nothing flashy, etc.
