since this is a wedding website - what is your opinion on same sex marriage?

Original post by yabbobay

our president is against it...and he says that you are too...what is your opinion?

A strong America must also value the institution of marriage. I believe we should respect individuals as we take a principled stand for one of the most fundamental, enduring institutions of our civilization. Congress has already taken a stand on this issue by passing the Defense of Marriage Act, signed in 1996 by President Clinton. That statute protects marriage under Federal law as the union of a man and a woman, and declares that one state may not redefine marriage for other states. Activist judges, however, have begun redefining marriage by court order, without regard for the will of the people and their elected representatives. On an issue of such great consequence, the people's voice must be heard. If judges insist on forcing their arbitrary will upon the people, the only alternative left to the people would be the constitutional process. Our nation must defend the sanctity of marriage.

The outcome of this debate is important -- and so is the way we conduct it. The same moral tradition that defines marriage also teaches that each individual has dignity and value in God's sight.

The point is if one makes a statement why can't others ask why? Why would one get mad at that??

I think everyone needs to agree to disagree and go back to your corners.

I don't understand why you are being defensive, noone had a problem with you saying you posted no, and then saying you didn't want to explain.

Then you were explaining and saying peple were attacking, I just don't get where this all comes from.

I think that everyone is entitled to their veiw and opinion. I think that some of the no's are afraid to say why it is a no because it is veiwed as old fashioned or right wing or what have you, and do not want to be bashed for it, and thats sad they should be able to share the reasons why without fear.

That being said - I just want to share that I am the child of a gay parent, I am a republican as well as a raised and educated Roman Catholic. (Confused yet) the world is made up of very diffrent people, with very diffrent morals.
If i woke up tommorrow morning and FH was turned into a woman would I want some random person telling me that I could not marry and share my money, helath care, family, name, my love with him? Love is what makes life worth living, - please don't support people who want to regulate it. I want to draw lines - on where another human being is allowed to tell me whom to love, how to love and where to do it. I hope that some of you might think about this topic a little more and maybe put yourself in the shoes of another, and think of how sad it would be if we let politicians regulate even our hearts.

It would be a shame if it was pulled. There were some great points before all the foot-stomping.

MizStinker - thanks for sharing that. Your points were eloquently made...I couldn't agree more with you.
