I'm confused. You mean they said they don't do hand cancelling? I got mine hand cancelled, but I did mine in the city.

we had purposely picked an invite that was regular card sized. One less thing I had to get crazy over...........I am a nut job!

Re: SINCE WHEN CAN WE NOT HAND CANCEL INVITES????

Post office by my job told me they can hand cancel it for me. But they wont let me hand cancel it personally. He said that really is not allowed and postal agents are really not supposed to allow individuals to do that

Hand cancelling doesn't have anything to do with the size of the envelope. You can hand cancel a postcard if you want to. It just means that they don't get run through the bar code machine so there's less chance of them being smeared with ink or messed up/crushed. They will still get sent through a sorter, but they just won't be stamped that way. They tend to look neater/not smudged or overstamped when hand cancelled, but it's def not necessary. I did it because I didn't want my calligraphy to get smeared and I think its a nice touch.

I have a silly question....what is hand cancelling?

Re: SINCE WHEN CAN WE NOT HAND CANCEL INVITES????

They said regardless they would have to run it through the machine to put the barcode on it because it wasn't local mailings. I just hope they get there ok,....THESE FACKING INVITATIONS ARE STILL THE BAIN OF MY EXISTANCE!!!

A lot of my save the dates were ruined because I didnt do this. People got the magnets with holes in them because I had tied them together with a ribbon with a cute charm on it. When they feed them through the machine the charm pressed into the magnet and even poked holes in the envelope! All that hard work. I didn't know

when you stamp the invitation yourself instead of having it run through a machine to cancel out the stamp

Yea I don't have any charms or anything, but there are magnets in some- which cost me an extra $0.17 in postage. I sent STDs to the people that never got them. I figure wt h...I'm not going to use em and I had about 50 extra.

I just hope they're not ruined...we worked SO HARd on them for DAYS!!!! Months really if you count design....UGH!!! I think I'm probably stressing over nothing but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't totally off the mark

that's bull$****. Mine were hand cancelled and were not barcoded. And they were not local. I saw the envelopes when I went to relatives houses that lived in Jersey, Long Island, upstate. I actually asked to see them when they got them cause I wanted to make sure that they were indeed hand cancelled when I dropped them at the P.O. They were only handstamped, not barcoded.

They do still have to run them through the sorter machine, but they will not be barcoded there. I would lodge a complaint.

from what i was told they aren't supposed to charge extra.
and they are required to hand cancel anything you request be done that way.

i'm not sure mine were, but we did request it, they just asked us to drop them off first thing in the morning so that they could do it as the day went on.
I'm guessing they were b/c i had wax seals and they didn't arrive ruined but then again, i haven't gotten back even half my RSVPs yet so maybe not everyone go them
