So I went for my first dress fitting

Original post by SummerBride10

and I ended up in tears on the way home.

I love my dress. Its beautiful. But it doesnt look the same as when I first tried it on. FIrst of all, when I tried it on there wasnt a drop waist. But that doesnt bother me so much. Right around my hips....the dress material PUFFS out. It make me look bloated.

The seamstress kept telling me thats the way the dress is. She also said it was going to look different than the sample because the sample was a 16 and my dress is a 4. So when I tried it on, I didnt get the full effect.

So I scuked it up. Then on the way home, as I was looking at the pics I started crying hysterically. because I dont like it- its not what I want! My mom and grandma said I look great..but I dont feel great. I feel like this one part is unflattering. Esp. when you look at it from the side angle you can tell its there.

So I called them to say I was looking at my pics and I'm not happy...I want this one part changed. The woman said it might be the slip..or it could be b/c its a different size). I'm going back Wed. 'to see what they can do'

I hope they can alter this...it makes me cry. A good seamstress should be able to 'flatten out' the puff right?

Here's the dress I tried on:

These are from my fitting:

From this angle- you can very clearly see how it puffs out:

Part of me feelings like I'm being a drama queen....its just one part of the dress. But I was crying for over an hour last night over it. I'm just not happy. I hope the seamstress can change it.

honestly, I can see what you mean about it poofing out but there is no reason the seamstress shoudln't fix it. Its your wedding dress and you should be 100% happy with it. I think getting to speak with the seamstress and finding out what she can do will ease your mind. You look beautiful in the dress and you'll be stunning on your wedding day

ok colleen....
1 - i 'kinda' see what you mean about the poof.. BUT I think that it is obvious that it is part of the dress and not you. and its soooo small!!!
2 - you are so tiny.... you could not look big in any dress
3 - you look amazing in that dress as i am sure you look in any dress cause you have a perfect weight and shape!
4 - yes, you should be happy with it, but remember we are our own worse judge!

you look great but yes, i see what you mean.

its not being a diva - ask to have it fixed. they should do it no problem! there's still plenty of time. and either way, you're gonna look hot so... you're good!

I think you look great in the picture. I think the 'puff' may be because the dress is a little big on you there? The seamstress should definitely be able to fix that. Try not to worry!!!!

I'm not a sewer, but from the pictures, it looks like it can be solved by getting rid of the first row of buttons. Then it seems like it may flow better.

Also, stand your ground! I wanted the top of my dress altered a certain way and my seamstress wasn't hearing it. But I kept pushing so she brought someone else out who figured a way to fix it, and it worked perfect! DOn't be afraid to ask for another seamstresses opinion if its possible!

Good luck! It will work out! You look beautiful either way!

ita - that was my first thought. the buttons there is also what is giving it a drop waist so if they were removed you'd fix both issues. althought you don't know if there will be a mark of some sort if you remove them. in any case you look great and i'm sure you're the only one who will notice those things that day!

But I do see what you are talking about. I'm sure they will able to do something about it. Maybe it is just the slip. but either way you look gorgeous!!

Colleen, you look beautiful!!!!!!

I totally see what you mean about the puffy part. I am sure they can fix it. Your not being a drama queen at all. I think if they make the top quilts out it will be perfect!

ITA!!! Don't worry, there's still time. It simply looks too big for you in that area. They'll resolve it, I'm sure.

You look gorgeous Collen but no matter how many of us tell you that, YOUR the one who has to feel beautiful and comfortable in the dress. I kind of see what your talking about but only because you pointed it out, I definitely would never have thought you looked bloated, you have an amazing body!! I am sure they can do something to fix it! But seriously, you look beautiful!

I agree with what everyone else said. Your dress looks beautiful and you look beautiful in it. But I do see what your talking about. See what they say about what they can do to fix it.

Re: So I went for my first dress fitting

it is def because it use such a large sample size. the dress is a drop waist but b/c the sample is soo big it looked a-line. I can see why you are upset. Did they say the dress was a drop waist when you ordered it?

Re: So I went for my first dress fitting

Hey Colleen! I see what you're talking about. Can you wear higher slip? One that eliminates the drop waist?

Yes, I see it Colleen, but you still look gorgeous! A good seamstress should definitely be able to fix that!
