So MAD!!! (kind of long) talked to the airline

Original post by alissa5517

When I got home from Paris on Monday night after our first flight was canceled and we sat in the airport for 8 hours and then had an 8 hour flight, my luggage did not make it on the plane. They said that I would have it Tuesday morning. They finally called after 11:00 last night and said it would be here in the morning. Well it got here this morning and when I went in it I realized that they STOLE out of my bag. They took 2 of my handbags and all of the stuff that I bought for my Store Managers. These managers helped me to win the contest that got me to Paris and I wanted to get them a little something to thank them. I started a trend with that and all of the other DM's got their managers the same gifts that I did. Now my managers will be the only ones in the entire reagion to not have these and to not have any gifts at all.

Girls when you are traveling do not bring things with you that you would be devistated about if you lost them. I love the 2 bags that were taken and now they are gone. You never know if you will have them when you get home.

I will be calling the baggage department in 10 min. when they open.

Thanks for listening to my vent!!!!
........Update......

I talked to the airline and they say that if I send a letter and any receipts I have they will reimburse me. I hope that is true.

Re: So MAD!!! (kind of long) talked to the airline

The same thing happened to a co-worker of mine when she flew home from Paris. She was so upset because she did some hefty shopping while there, and EVERYTHING was stolen! First her bags were missing and then later were delivered to her home completely empty. She thought the luggage delivery people did it (someone she knew works at an airport and told her it happens often). She did file a complaint and submitted letters, and it took a while but she did get reimbursed.

The sad part of it all was that when she was at the airport filing her claim, another woman was there that was on the same flight and the same thing happened to her. The sick part is that she was returning from her mother's funeral, and she had her mother's ashes and heirlooms in the suitcase, and all of it was GONE! Supposedly the woman was a wreck and what did the person behind the counter have to say to her, 'you shouldn't have put the stuff in there'. That helps!

Good luck!

I am so sorry you had to go through that. That is why any time we travel FH puts a lock on the suitcases. This way we know if they need to open it for any reason they have to ask us. And we will know if anyone tried to open it. Hope you get your things back or atleast soemthing for it.

My friend had locks on her suitcases and they were all clipped and gone. They will get into your suitcases if they want.. locks or not.

In my opinion, I think the airlines should be liable, and I mean protecting your items, not reimbursing you for them, once your luggage is under their control, and if they aren't protecting your luggage, they need to figure out a way, than just to blame it on the customer!! After all, if the luggage may not be locked, then how is it the customers' fault? Mary MOB

I know, it really is crazy! The airlines really don't seem to care though, and don't do anything about it. I know that in my friend's case they didn't even try to investigate to see when/how it happened, they just wrote her a check and that's it. I guess that's easier for them!

I always pack my expensive and important items in my carry-on (my carry-on has all jewelry, expensive shoes and purses, and anything else of real worth, even if just personal like photos). I also pack an extra days' worth of clothes and a bathing suit, so if my suitcase is lost I at least have something to wear while I try to replace vacation items and I can at least get some sun!

That's very smart. I try to do that (my jewelry is always in my carry-on) but am not very strict about it. I should definitely get into that routine!

This happened to us when we flew out of France. FH had his cell phone in his bag and when we landed it was gone. I always put the important stuff in the carry on if I can. Sorry to hear that happened to you

They do have TSA locks, and I use zip strips (so they can open if necessary)

If they DO open your bag and go through it they are REQUIRED to put a little note in the bag saying so. (and/or make a notation on your tag?)

They really should be held liable for something like this, and try to find the person(s) who did it. But I guess it happens so much or maybe those jobs are hard to fill
It's a shame that not every company wants or has honest employees
