I have never seen one like this before so maybe you girls can help. The response card is literally a postcard-looking thing, and at the top left it says, 'Please respond,' and at the bottom right it has 'By June 12.' The whole rest of the card is blank. Are they just supposed to handwrite their names and info in the blank center of the card? I have never seen one done this way before!

That is what I would do.

It does seem odd, but atleast this way they don't have to worry about people forgetting to put their names and just checking yes!

That's what I would do. Maybe the card was one they forgot to print? Mary MOB

That is really weird...

Maybe they expect ppl to write notes on them and then they can keep them as a keepsake?

I guess just have them write their names and that they will or will not attend..?

Yes, maybe that's the purpose...to make sure people put their name. May not be a bad idea.

OR it didn't print right, or they wanted to give people an opportunity to write more than just will or will not attend? 'we're so excited, can't wait, blah blah'

Or not. Just a thought.

you're exactly right! blank cards are meant so that guests can write a little message on them, many brides keep them and make a scrapbook. I belong to another wedding message board that has brides from all over the country (and world) and some of them have done this. One bride commented on the creativity, some guests drew pics etc. I think it's a cute idea, but see how it might confuse some who are used to the more traditional rsvp card.

It is weird but I just got a Bat Mitzvah invitation like that not too long ago

The response card have the return date and then a blank space in the middle and then a check off at the bottom whether you could attend or not...

I figured the blank area was to write your name but most people would expect a line there....Then when I saw the person whose party it is...She was annoyed people sent their response cards back with no names on it...I wanted to explain why but didn't feel it was my place. Very odd though.

We got one like that, it was so bizarre. We just wrote will be attending or something like that

Our response cards were mostly blank ... its more formal / creative and gives the guests the ability to write a personalized note to the couple.

They didn't forget to print on it ... its printed on with the date to respond before

Our response is on the far right of this picture:

Once upon a time, people didn’t need response cards. When they received a written invitation, they would RSVP on their own stationery, offering congratulations and whether or not they would be able to attend.

But it's not mine. Because I think mine is self explanatory!

In the past, there were no RSVP cards -- guests would write back on their own stationery. However, over time the RSVP card thing evolved.

It is considered more formal to do it the way this invite had it -- people write their own note. However, people are idiots and cant seem to figure out how to properly fill out the more common types of RSVPs, let alone mail them in on time, so people have moved away from the more formal ettiquette.

they didnt make a mistake! you just fill it in yourself

We got invited to a birthday party with a reply card like that too! It was entirely blank except for one line on the bottom 'please RVSP by May 22nd' So I just wrote our names and that we would be there. Kinda weird!

It is the actual way truly formal reply cards are supposed to be done. Yes, they should write their names and whether they accept or decline and maybe if motivated a nice little note too.
