So settle this for me... Is it 'cheating' to fantasize?
I say no (as long as you don't ACT on it OBVIOUSLY)! It's natural to be attracted to someone else and maybe even fantasize a little - but my friend (already married) says it's cheating to even think about it...
Do you think it's cheating to have a thought about someone other than your DH/FH?

I don't see a problem as you said, you know the difference between right and wrong and actually acting on it.
But not being able to even think about someone else as being attractive? Gosh I would be considered cheating alot in your friends eyes.

I don't think it is cheating to fantasize. If FH has a fantasy here and there, well that is OK (and I think that is pretty normal). But if he is fantasizing ALL the time about other women, well that wouldn't be cheating but it would be a problem

Fantasies are not cheating - but thinking about someone else when you're with your honey can be an ego basher if he knows about it. They think they're not good enough for you and feel 'cheated on'.

But seriously I don't think it's cheating unless
1) you act on it 2) you let it consume your life or interfere with your relationship somehow
Like if all I'm doing is thinking about Johnny and I'm calling out 'oh Johnny' in bed, that could be a problem, but other than that I think it's natural. We're built to be attracted to more than one person. As long as it doens't harm anyone, I don't think it's cheating.

I get the impression that the person being fantasized about is a real person...someone known in your daily life
i think it is pretty bad if i or my DH was fantasizing about someone i/we know
It is one thing to fantasize about celebs but another if this person i know....although i do not think it is cheating..i think there is something not right about it either

i agree with this - i think something is wrong if it's a real person, but a celebrity would be different... I also think it depends on the extent of the fantasy... having a fleeting thought is one thing, but if you're thinking about it all day, you might have a problem.
ETA: and when it was discussed with us, we were speaking in general, not about a specific person or a celeb actually. but since you mention it, I do agree that there's a difference to some extent. then again, after watching that show where 'average' people get plastic surgery makeovers to look like celebrities last night, it might even be dangerous for some people to think about celebrities if it does affect their lives THAT much...
