Something interesting that happened at my wedding... what would YOU do?

Original post by JimmysBride

Something I read just triggered a memory of something that happened at my wedding. I'm curious how some of you would handle the situation.

This is what happened:

Our 4yr old flowergirl (DH's niece) started cupping her hands over her ears at the reception because the music was 'too loud' for her. She and her family were seated at the table furthest from the DJ - intentionally.

First, my MIL's sister approached us and asked us to ask the DJ to lower the music. Then my MIL approached my husband and made the same request. Then, the FGs father (DH's BIL) made the same request.

No one else was complaining about the volume of the music. It was definitely at a reasonable volume for a party.

I'll tell you what we did/what happened in a bit, but how would YOU handle this? And what do you think of them asking 3 times?

Oh - about the 'spanish' thing... no they weren't Spanish, they were DH's family not mine! I actually didn't get what you were getting at until you explained it but I knew I wasn't going to be offended by it because I know you!

The volume war at my wedding will be between me and FH. I can't stand loud music and he is a DJ.

In this instance I would have pretended to care but in reality not change it if I thought it was acceptable.

I wouldn't care if they went to the DJ - I am paying for them to deal with it. Although I would expect the DJ to check with either me or FH before he changes it.

upsurd and unreasonable. I can't believe they left.

My BIL (DH's sister's husband) ask me and then my BA, and then the BA again and then the MD, to blow out the candles on the dais table because he thought I was going to catch on fire. DH had to flat out tell him no and to get over it. It takes all kinds.

We didn't have children at our wedding except for our ring bearer and jr. bridesmaid. I can't imagine my BIL complaining about the volume.

I probably would have told the parents that if they knew the child had sensitive hearing, they should have gotten ear plugs for her.

My ring bearer did get tired and cranky, but went into the library at WM and plopped down on the couch and did this.

This is just the cutest and most adoooorable picture.

Geez...if they think wedding music is loud, what the heck do they do at the MOVIE THEATER? Ask the manager to turn it down???

I would have said (the first time) 'Sure' and done nothing

The 2nd time, I would have said, 'Okay, let me remind him again' and still done nothing.

The 3rd time, I would have said, 'oh, he did lower it'

It's very rude for people to complain about ANYTHING at a wedding, let alone complain to the BRIDE or GROOM. That's just unacceptible.

i agree dont' u already have enough on your plate, on your wedding your supposed to finally relax after all that planning!! besides isn't the music supposed to be at a certain level for the music to be played properly that's what i would of said.

I would have said, 'You are the only one to complain and this is a wedding. Take your daughter home, it's past her bedtime anyway.'

Wedding music can be really loud which is annoying since you want to be able to talk with people that you have not seen since the last wedding...

Sounds like your flower girl was tired and just needed a nap. I wish that I was going to have a flower girl at my wedding, but none of my friends started having babies in time (darn). Can I borrow yours?

I would have told them to take her to the Bridal Suite for a nap, and to get over it, the whole party is not catering to a 4 year old. But then again, I have no children, and I am a b*tch.....
I don't like young children at receptions for that exact reason....they fall apart and the parents leave early, and it stinks...I think at the ceremony it's fine.....but then someone has to get a babysitter....JMO.
