'Special Dances' are AFTER the cake cutting???

'Special Dances' are AFTER the cake cutting???

That's what my DJ said... I always thought they were before the cake was cut?

My photographer said he stays until the cake cutting, so if the special dances are after the cake cutting, this concerns me a bit...

Usually, the father-daughter and mother-son dance are after the cake cutting... but if your photographer is leaving then, just tell the DJ you want to do them right after your first dance.

This is how they did it at my wedding also.

Okay, every wedding I've been to has had the 'special dances' after the cake. Your photographer should know that. If not, I would inform the photographer that he will be staying until the dances are done. The fact that he's leaving after cake is total bullsh!t since I'm sure you're paying through the nose for them to be there.

The dances were after the cake cutting at mine as well..but our photographer stood until the reception was over.

Hmm, every wedding I have ever been to has had the special dances after the cake cutting (ie, spotlight dance, mother/son dance, father/daughter dance, etc)... I would be worried about the photog leaving and missing those shots... Can you ask him about that? Maybe he meant after the cake and the dances were implied-- you know? Because I can't imagine a photog missing those dances!

Call and ask about that for sure. Let us know what happens!

My photog said they were leaving after cake...they stayed until after the dances plus some...I think its just a general way of them saying they aren't going to stay for the entire thing but I think they know they would have some unhappy brides if they didn't take pics of these dances...I'm sure your covered but if your worried just ask them....

I know all weddings I've been to are like this (after the cake), but I CHOSE to do them right after our first dance.

When they say 'cake cutting' - they mean the spotlight dances that follow right after. The dances w/mom's and dad's, etc....are part of the 'cake cutting' portion of the evening, including the garter toss & boq toss.

Schedule:

Cake Cutting
Bride w/Dad Dance
Groom w/Mom Dance
Groom takes garter off
Groom throws garter
Brides tosses boq

I think I'm going to do this, too... I've been to a couple of wedding that did it this way, and I thought it was a nice way to start off the evening.

I think it depends on what you want to do. I've been to some that do it before and some that do it afterwards. More of the weddings I've been to had them right away!

One of my friends had a 'spotlight' dance after her cake which was kind of like the first dance but, later on in the evening, it was a slow dance for them alone in the beginning and everyone was invited to join shortly into the song.

Actually I threw my Bok first and then we did the garter toss. But everything else sounds right.
