- my dad is annoyed that I put black tie optional instead of black tie affair - he said it ' cheap-ens the affair' . i told him to get over it and stop being such a snob ! seriously !

-my FMIL that it isnt a kosher wedding - i told her to get over it, I only have 5 kosher guests and they will have a meal provided for them!

I'm waiting for the Sunday comments. To be honest, as much as we would've preferred a Saturday night, we really don't have a large enough guest list to meet the guarantee for a Saturday night. We were not going to dig up people to invite just for the sake of having a Saturday night affair.

my mom has been warning me that i'm going to get lots of complaints because it is a friday and the ceremonys starts at 4pm--and a lot of people work.

pplus the whole no kids issue. oh yeah and that it is out on the North Fork of the island (because people on LI dont like to drive more than 20 min to get somewhere!)

these are all murmurings that i'm sure will grow into full out complaints and b*tchouts once the invites are out

So far the biggest complaint is from my Mom ...

She wants us to change the dress code to jeans or maybe even Togas --- shes just cant seem to drop the pounds

Re: Spin-off to the other threads: What is the most ridiculous thing your guests have complained about so far?

Question I get from my father's side of the family:

'Why aren't you inviting your dad??'

a little history: My dad is a deadbeat! He remarried to a woman who plain out told him, that if he wanted to be with her that he needed to lose all contact with me! It's been 15 years since I last spoke to my deadbeat 'dad'...yet his relatives have the nerve to ask me if I'm inviting him to my wedding?!?

Uggh!

Re: Spin-off to the other threads: What is the most ridiculous thing your guests have complained about so far?

-Why is the hotel so far from the RH (I wanted the OOT guests near my house for the w/e)

-Why isnt the entire wedding kosher

-Why did you pick a RH soooo far

-My grandmother wanted to buy a cream/off white/beige dress. I nipped that one in the bud, not before some fighting.

People just dont get it......

Re: Spin-off to the other threads: What is the most ridiculous thing your guests have complained about so far?

A few things so far
1- My cousins(age 12-18) will be seated at a table by themselves and one aunt is complaining that her daughter(one of the 18 y/os) should be seated at my moms table because she's 'not a kid'. There are only so many seats at a table and I can't fit my mom, grandparents, aunts uncles and all my cousins all at one table so I created an 'under 21' table. (BTW at her stepdaughter wedding I was 23 and not invited b/c, and I am directly quoting, 'We need to keep the guest list down so we aren't inviting any kids') Wait til they find out that she also can't bring a date.

2- We are having an afterparty at my house so the OOT hotel is closer to my house. I live 10 min from DF's family and their guest have to stay at a different hotel b/c This hotel is to far from their house for 'their guests. Um how much time do they think they are going to be spending with their guests at their house. Morning wedding, afternoon reception, evening/night afterparty. And anyway its 10 minutes away.

3- My aunt also complains about how much DF and I are spending on the wedding. In her opinion we should have had a 'Wednesday wedding' with a 'BBQ at her house'. This is the same aunt from #1 and she had to have a HUGE wedding(9 BM's, 250 guests) and her stepdaughter also had a nice big wedding. Why don't I deserve the same thing?????

I think I have heard some pretty silly complaints/issues:

1. I have 4 flower girls (so cute!) - FMIL 'aren't you concerned they will upstage the bride?'

2. Cupcake cake - this led to 'I don't like that, how will you cut the cake, don't you want to cut the cake'?

3. I will be doing 3 different types of favors (candy, handmade soap from etsy, and handmade candles from etsy) with a sign that says 'Please select a favor' - this was met with 'what if people all want only one of the choices (for example, candy) and then other people are stuck with one they didn't want (like handmade candles or handmade soap)? won't people be confused and take one of each?' If anyone is really that upset about their favor, they should really keep it to themselves.

4. I wanted to put on invites that attire should be 'formal garden party' because that's what the setting is - but was told not to because 'people will wear shorts' - since when are shorts formal attire? and who are these people?

5. We are having the groomsmen walk in one at a time instead of paired with the bridesmaids, this apparently was an issue because 'every wedding FMIL has ever been to did not do that'

6. Along the same lines, there were objections to not tossing my bouquet, not doing the garter thing, taking pictures before the ceremony, wearing an ivory dress, and I have forgotten what else.

Grrrrrrrrr......

We've gotten the whole 'oh, you NEED to invite so and so' Umm, 'so and so' doesn't even know FH and doesn't know I'm getting married! So no, I dont have to invite them .

I haven't really gotten any complaints about kids not being invited....yet. I would think that parents would welcome a night of dancing, drinking and eating away from their kids.

Kids seem to be a hot topic! The only children invited to the wedding are the ones in the wedding (our niece and nephews) and FH's two first cousins. They are about 13 and 8. We invited these ppl to the engagement party and my Aunt complained to my mom, b/c she didn't understand why they could go and her EIGHT grandchildren weren't invited... my mom explained that they were Toms FIRST cousins... and my aunt thought my mom was lying!!! My aunts son (my first cousin) didnt even COME to my engagement party and is already coming up with excuses as to why he likely wont be able to come to my wedding Mass (a FOOTBALL GAME!!) Jackasses.

biggest problem is my wedding is on LI and not in New Jersey like all of my futures in laws would like.

A little history: FMIL in law has 2 sisters who all have girls except for my FH. Its a female dominated family and this is the first time they are on the grooms side and the wedding is not being catered to them.

Power struggle.

I haven't even sent out anything to our guests yet, but already people are complaining that it is a wedding held on the Monday or President's Day weekend. Once they start complaining though and ask me why I did it, I tell them that I am paying for EVERYTHING myself, the RH is cheaper on a non-Sunday ($40 pp cheaper in fact), etc. and they usually start to get embarrased that they even asked. Meanwhile, I am very proud of the fact that I am paying for everything myself!

OMG I LOVE the formal garden party idea. Damn. Why did I do that! So jealous!!!

My DH & his entire family thought the wedding should in in Rhode Island, where HE'S from. Um, my entire family and I are from NY & we're the ones paying, thanks.

We also got the guilt trip from DH's 94 year old grandmother who didn't come because it was 'too far.'

Well the biggest problem has been about not letting kids come! I have told my Aunts sorry no kids , but then they say we will pay for their plate. Ok well I still have 40 more kids parents that would start complaining. I said sorry if i say yes to one then I have to say Yes to all. ANd there is no way in hell I was having 40 kids running around!! They were mad, but I put my foot down!

that makes me so angry when people say 'oh well i'll just pay for their plate'

I have to say that this was one of my biggest problems during the planning of my wedding.

One of DH's cousins said to us 'I'll just have him sitting on my lap so he won't count and I'll have him eat off my plate'

He just didn't get the point (until his wife stepped in) that we weren't having ANY children (aside from FG) that would be at the wedding.

Otherwise we had no complaints really about our wedding.

FMIL asked why we were making FH's dad wear a tux at his age (he is 85)

She then was shocked that we too have a sunday wedding with at 12:30 ceremony time..which means we have an earlier start time for photos and his dad likes to sleep in.
