Spinoff: Long Distance Relationship? Come Play The Game!

Ok... the question came up as to what would be considered 'too far' to date somebody.

Who here had to travel some distance to see their FI's before you got engaged, decided to move in together, etc.

Are you one of those people that 'racked up the mileage' on your car to see a happy ending?

I'll start.

I lived in Bayside Queens, my FW lived in Riverhead.

One-Way Mapquest miles: 62.71

We now live together.

Brad's and my distance varied:

Year 1: Together at Binghamton University

Year 2: I'm in Binghamton, he's in Wantagh!!! We saw each other about every 3 weeks for that year.

For the rest of our relationship, until marriage, I was on Staten Island and he was on LI. It was 45 miles and took anywhere from 1 hour to 3, depending on the Belt and the Southern State.

I went to college in Rhode Island my freshman year and I drove home every weekend to see DH. I still can't believe I did all that driving!

I think we lived 2-3 miles apart We met in highschool and lived in the same town. When I was 16 and on the rack/x-country teams I used to run to his house for practice.

I don't think any distance is too far if the two people really like eachother!

I'll give you credit... thats a BRUTAL commute. I've done that in the past... and sworn to myself I would never date a Staten Island girl ever again.

It would only be 20 miles... but thats 20 BRUTAL miles.

My trip to Riverhead was LONG... but it was usually quick cause I can average 80mph on the LIE and get there in an hour on average.

Didn't live together till we were married.

DH lived in the Bronx (Woodlawn) and I lived in Hicksville and then Westbury. 40 miles, tolls and lots of mileage driven we still saw each other at least twice a week.

I actually grew up in Woodside. I didn't move to Bayside till I was 27. And I am actually in Oakland Gardens which is considered South Bayside.

Our 'love' story :

DH used to live in East Northport, LI

I lived in Scarsdale (Westchester Cty)

Total Distance, one-way: 53 miles

We also only saw each other on weekends, but generally speaking had a whirlwind courtship. We went from seeing each other on a Saturday .. To all weekend.. and finally went from weekends only to him moving in with me in 4 short months

And even though he moved in with ME (to make my life easier, I might add, since I dont want to commute from LI to work in NYC) he still drives all the way to Woodbury LI to work every day

He's the best

I lived on LI and my dh lived in NJ...since Summer of 1999 to the day we got married Sept 25 2004, we always rotated weekends to see each other. We very rarely saw each other during the week...

We also met in college in RI.
Nferrandi - what college did you go to?

Re: Spinoff: Long Distance Relationship? Come Play The Game!

I lived in Delaware (going to Uod D)
ex lived in LI..

WE did that for 2 years and i decided to move back here for him....Transferred to St. Johns

THis is probably one of the only regrets in my life...That i moved back home for an azzhole (even though i didn't know it at the time)

IMO...the long distance was better for our relationship

My ex was at med school in Philly when I was working in the city/living on Long Island...We were together the 4 years of college but that longer distance tore us apart...Wasn't meant to be!
