Spinoff to a post in the 2011 Boards: Getting Started Early

A 2011 bride was asking if it's too early to book a makeup artists for her Oct. 2011 wedding. She wanted to call and book next month. I don't see a problem with it as long as the makeup artist can book something that far in advance.

Someone, who shall remain nameless, but is looking to start some said it's too early to start planning a 2011 wedding.

I totally disagree. IMO, if you start early, you have an EXCELLENT chance of getting everything you want.

This is my question:

What was the first thing you ladies booked for your 2010 wedding and when did you book it?

First thing I booked was my RH and that was in the beginning of Oct. 08

i think next was DJ in like Dec. 08

RH is the first thing we booked. And no I don't think it's EVER too early.

We booked our RH! We got engaged on 12/25/08 and we booked the RH in mid January Then the Church and then photo/video in feb.

For some things, I feel like it's a little too early to plan a 2011 wedding. It might just be me, but I think it's a bit early for make-up and dresses and everything since I typically change my mind 5 times in a week, forget how many times I'd change it in 2 years.

The first thing I booked was my RH and that was a little more than exactly one year out from the wedding! Though I did go to casually try on dresses about 15 mos. out from the wedding date!

I got engaged in Dec. 08...we booked our RH and photog in Jan. 09...the photog was the most important vendor for us at the time, so we made sure to snag him ASAP. However, we didn't want to book a photographer without having a set date at a RH.

We booked the RH first less than a week after getting engaged!

The first thing we booked was the RH and that was in Jan of this year, we were engaged inOct. 08. We did LOTS of shopping around - but that is the beauty of having time to plan, you don't have to be rushed into anything.

At the same time, not to start drama, you do have to be careful. FSIL's photographer went out of business before her wedding and they had booked them too far in advance. And you always hear about girls having second thoughts, in my opinion, unless you are CERTAIN you are not going to have second thoughts and have done your research, then its ok to book as far in advance as you like!

I booked the RH and then the band.

My advice for planning is its never to early to book, however, definitely do your research. There is a difference between booking early and rushing to book.

My rh with all vendors included(wedding package). I booked it this past October. Thats all I've done so far!!!

The first thing that we book was our RH. We got engaged in Nov and we booked the RH in Dec.

It is never too early to start planning something that is as important and special as your wedding day.

Its never too early. I booked my Hair & MU in June because 2 of the vendors I had called were already booked for my 10-10-10 date.

The first thing we booked was our RH and church. We booked in January 2009 for our June 2010 wedding.

The first thing I booked was the reception hall- 13 months before the wedding... now with just under 1 year to go, I'm pretty much done with everything!

I can see why! 10/10/10 is one of the most sought after dates in 2010!
