Spinoff to 'how big is it'

I am wondering:

Why is it an issue to post about the size of a diamond, but it's commonly accepted that we:

1. Chat about price per head
2. Chat about price of photo
3. Chat about price of music
4. Chat about price of flowers
5. Chat about price of limos

We're proud to talk about the 'good deal' we got on our price per head, but the size of my stone...OH DON'T GO THERE

ok, i just read the post. I am laughing my you know what off

what is the big deal how big or small your ring is. the important thing is, that FH cared enough to take the time to research and pick out a ring, he thought was perfect!
That is all that matters.. It is after all a piece of carbon!!!!

the best is when you say you have a big center stone- and people post it must be bad quailty- or you are lying

but no one says that if you are paying a really low price for your hall, photo, video or DJ etc

LOL, OMG girls this was such a big issue yesterday and I totally agree with you guys.
The E-ring, no matter how big or small is part of the exictment of out wedding planing too, so why is it taboo to talk about it? I got frustrated becasue some of the comments were about bragging... common!!! Basically if you dont like what is being talking about you dont have to post GRRRRRRR

I think that the ring issue is different than the halls, etc. because all the wedding vendor things are done together as a couple, and often with our parents. The ring was done (in most cases) by our FH's alone. Its so hard to explain. But whenever these posts come up, you never ever see anyone post that they have a soliataire with a .25ct diamond.... and we know they are out there. Why is that?

Again I am sorry if I pushed anyone's buttons or hurt anyone's feelings, that was not my intention. I love you all.

I didn't direct any of this at you.

I just find it strange that no one has a problem with the girls having the $100,000 wedding, but it seems like the girl with the big rock must be punished.

If someone posts that they're paying $250 per plate, it doesn't become an issue. But, if someone posts that they have a 3 carat ring, it's an issue for many. I just don't get it...

And, on the flip side, so many girls will be proud that they got a good deal on the per head fee, but if someone got a good deal on the diamond, that's all hush hush...just doesn't make sense to me.

I love my ring.. originally I asked for a little bit bigger stone, but when I got the ring that I have now, I couldn't have asked for anything better.. and it fits my finger perfectly, my ring doesn't twist around bc it's too top heavy.. and when I said I wanted something a little bigger, I had only asked for a ring .25 carats bigger bc that's what we tried it on originally with.. All in all I have a 1.25 center round stone, beautiful cut and clarity with a bunch of diamonds around it.. and I wouldn't want anything bigger... I couldn't be happier!!!

Yeah, you're right. Its a very strange topic.
Actually, its the diamond industry that I hate - DeBeers to be excact. Diamonds wouldn't be nearly as costly if it wasn't for them, because in fact, diamonds aren't even that rare. Its because this one company pretty much has a monopoly on the industry. Its a relatively new thing to give a diamond a promise for betrothal. It started in the U.S and is now spreading to other countries- like Japan. Now all Japanese brides want diamonds too.
Anyway, now I have turned this into something political lol.

It is a very sensitive topic for some reason. I can't explain why, I don't know if anyone else can either. Oh well, its just one of those things.
