Spinoff to Kitchen Pic Thread - I NEED ADVICE

these kitchen pics are of a home that we are considering buying. besides removing the wallpaper, painting and adding cabinet hardware what else do you think needs to be done?

i need honest answers.

IMO, the color of the cabinets and the floor does not really flow, i think the cabinets are too light. would it be really $$$ to sand and stain all the cabinets or the floor?

ETA: the kitchen is HUGE (32x25). there is another area w/ a built in buffet that is not pictured (location at which the person taken the pics is standing and span the width (25') of the kitchen). i would consider using their current dining table area as a sitting area and the area not pictured as the dining area.

Re: Spinoff to Kitchen Pic Thread - I NEED ADVICE

that is a GORGEOUS kitchen!! I love the cabinets and I think that if you paint the wall a nice rich...not too dark color...like a sage green or a brick red, the cabinets wouldnt blend into the walls as much.

Re: Spinoff to Kitchen Pic Thread - I NEED ADVICE

I love the look of the cabinets and the floor being a little different. I would totally wait until you paint the walls and then look back at the room and see if you feel the same way about the cabinets before you restain them

can I just say that I would give my right arm for that kitchen match or no match. But I do see what you mean. Maybe you could stain the cabinets.

We chose the same color cabinets & hardwoods floors when we remodeled the kitchen two years ago.

believe me, the pics are a lot better than the actual kitchen. although it is HUGE, it definetly needs updating. there is a FDRM (14' 11' x 13' 1'), but the previous owners added built-ins and converted it into an office. as it is right now, it is too small to be used as a DR. our thoughts are to use the FLR (23 x 14) as the dining room, the den as a LV/FR and the kitchen as a sitting and dining area. the den shares a wall w/ the kitchen, so we are thinking of making it a half wall so that it is opens to the kitchen.

Re: Spinoff to Kitchen Pic Thread - I NEED ADVICE

My aunt sanded and stained her cabinets...it cost $1500 for a 10 X 10 kitchen. So I would assume that it would cost a bunch more for yours since you've got a large kitchen.

Re: Spinoff to Kitchen Pic Thread - I NEED ADVICE

I agree, I would LOVE your kitchen. What I would do is add some nice hardware like you said, remove the wallpaper ASAP, and paint the walls. Looking at your kitchen I thought of a terracotta color. My dad did this in his family room off the kitchen and it is a great color. I am thinking a italian/spanish cafe type feel. IMO I would wait on the staining/sanding the cabinets. I think you would be happily surprised if you made the other changes first.

Re: Spinoff to Kitchen Pic Thread - I NEED ADVICE

My cabinets and counters are the same color. I paited the walls ginger jar which is sort of a terracotta color and used brass hardware. It made a world of difference. Paint first then see what you think.

Re: Spinoff to Kitchen Pic Thread - I NEED ADVICE

First off, that kitchen is soooo nice and has sooo much potential.

Honestly, I think the floors and cabinets are ok. I think the wall paper throws everything off. I would just paint the walls!!

Good luck!!

Re: Spinoff to Kitchen Pic Thread - I NEED ADVICE

Gorgeous kitchen!! WOW!!

I don't like those light cabinets, but I appear to be in the minority. I love rich, dark (but not too dark) cabinetry.

Def. start by painting the walls, then see if it changes your mind about the flow.
