i have to wear my hair down (well half-up/half-down) since i look a little scary with it up (the FH even asked if i would wear it down), but my hair is super straight and would never hold a curl all day.
i can't find any pictures of STRAIGHT hair half up.

Re: straight hair woes...
ps: i dont think ANY bride looks 'scary' with her hair up lol...u should definetly try different things! when ur all dolled up in ur gown, with jewelry, makeup, etc.. it makes a huge difference! if u prefer it down or fh prefers it down that's one thing, but other than that don't count it out!

i have VERY straight hair. I think a good stylist can do it. I have had my hair curled many times for different reasons. ANd yes alot of times my hair straightened out after a short period of time BUT other times it did not and that had to do with the stylist. BC of this i made sure to go to someone who is good with this and the hair lasted all night. Well let me tell you that not only did my hair stay curly all night but it was curly even the next day after sleeping on it. So its not about your hair its about the stylist and what it comes down to.
Some stylists have different methods. One thing my stylist said that keeps it curly for longer is to curl it with the iron, then you take each curl and pin it up for a bit and then let it out.

well even if you do it straight you are going to pay money for a trial. WHat i would do is have them do it straight half up half down but then ask them that after to try it straight to see if the curls will hold. This way if it doesn't, you already did the straight half up/half down and have your other option.

thats a good idea. i thought that you only really got 1 style at a trial, and if you wanted to try something different youd come back again...

I have uber straight hair and when I had my prom I was ble to have nice big (but loose) curls with the sides swept back.
The right hair stylist will know what to do

no many of them will play around with different styles. Ask first bc maybe depends on the stylist. Ive seen girls on here come back after a trial and did 2 styles, i remember some who did more than 2. I also did it 2 different ways, both with my hair curly though but in a different way. ALso for make up same thing, she did it with one color scheme and then took it off and did it another way in 1 trial.

I have the exact same problem with my hair. I had my hair trial this weekend and my hair dresser gave me advice for the week of the wedding. He said 1) do not condition my hair the week before the wedding, 2) come in for a wash and a blowout the day before the wedding 3) the day of the wedding he is going to set my hair and then also use a curling iron and spray it to no end. It worked for my trial....

I have the same problem. so this is my advice
1. Go on many trials and see who's style stays in your hair the longest
2. Make sure you wash your hair the night b4 not the day of...a little grease actually helps the curl.
3. Ask the person who cuts your hair if they know any shampoos to use that will help keep the curl. I have used Herbal Escence in the past
4. Make sure the stylist uses a lot of pins because by pinning the hair up it makes it lighterand the whole reason curls fall out of straight hair is because the hair is heavy and gets weighed down
5. Get ALL your photos done in the morning so if the curls fall it isnt a huge deal.

I'd recommend doing a trial -- and then see how long your hairstyle lasts.
I have very very straight hair that never holds a curl. I did everything in my power to keep my curls in because I hate the way my hair looks all up, and I always wear my hair down or half up so I wanted to look a little different on my wedding day.
Things that helped: - don't wash your hair the morning of, and don't flatiron it before your wedding hairstyle. dirty hair holds a style better and gives less fly-aways - like denise said, my stylist curled my hair with a curling iron and then pinned up each curl to let my hair set -- she said it would hold longer - hairspray was my friend
In the end, my curls came down as the day progressed (got my hair done at 6am, ceremony was 11:30, reception ended at 5pm, left our afterparty at 10:30pm) and it was a long day. we took our formal pictures before the ceremony which helped because my curls were still pretty fresh. my curls were still there at the end of the reception, but were nearly gone by the end of our afterparty.
pix in my album if you want to see the progression

Re: straight hair woes...
You could do one trial with the curls to see how it goes. If it doesn't go well, then you could opt for something like these, which all look beautiful
i have straight hair and for my reception, i wore my hair 1/2 up and 1/2 down.. and it held VERYYYYYYYYY well.. my hair never curls and it usually falls flat after a while.. but it held through the dancing and everything.. go for a trial and see what happens..

ok, so i've been growing my hair out since long and straight seemed 'fancier' to me than short and straight.
but maybe if i cut it back to right below my shoulder (where i think it looks best) the curl would hold easier since there less weight...
something like this...
that is very pretty, do whatever you like best. BUT dont cut your hair JUST for the reason that you think it will hold a curl better. A good stylist can do it NO Matter what, your best bet is asking girls on here whom have very straight hair, what stylist they used and how did their curls hold up. There are some girls who have said on here that their hair went straight. This will give you a better idea of whom you might want to use.
Almost everyone that has ever done my hair, the stylist at the salon will say to me 'OMG you have baby fine hair' and comment on how its worse than most ppl they have had. ITs so thin that it gets tangled right away, even the wind blowing will tangle my hair lol and my hair after its washed is a disaster and EVERY single place ive gone to, the girl who shampoos my hair doesnt even know what to do after bc she cant comb it lol, so I ALWAYS say to let me do it. Now they know and just hand me the brush. So i understand, you know its bad when every stylist comments on your baby fine hair and how its thinner than most.
Also, i did wash my hair the morning of. I had to for one bc my hair is so thin that by the next day it is VERY greasy, and i had bangs pushed back and would've looked nasty but not only that, i actually dyed my roots the morning of right before my stylist came. I said sorry i dyed it so i had to wash it. She said its fine and not to worry at all.

I also have very straight hair. The last wedding I was in, I had them put extensions in my hair. These extensions hold the curls all night. My hair looked great. I'm also doing that for my wedding.

I agree with the stylist. Also make sure your hair is dirty, don't wash it for a few days and it should hold great!

if i dont wash it for a few days i am the biggest greaseball even 1 day makes a huge difference. In the summer if i wash my hair in the morning, by evening or afternoon my bangs especially are greasy, looks like my hair is wet how greasy it is thats what S*CKS about very straight hair, i wish i didnt have to wash my hair every single day but i have to
