Stressed Out~!

Okay, so I have been searching for bridesmaids dresses. I have been finding this process super stressful because I wasn't able to find anything I REALLY like. I decided to go shopping with just me and my mom and I found an Alfred Angelo dress that I instantly loved! The sample size was a 10 and I knew I wouldn't be able to try it on, so my mom did and I loved it even more!!! My bridal party is made up of 5 bridesmaids, a maid of honor and a matron of honor; all different shapes and sizes. I really feel like this dress will compliment all of them because it has rouching and a corset back. I have a couple pregnant bridesmaids and a couple trying.. and the woman at the bridal salon said if the dress comes in too small, the corset makes it easier to make bigger because all they do is add a small panel. The neckline, rouching and corset back compliment my dress wonderfully. So... what's the problem? Well, there are 3 problems and maybe you ladies can help me out here.

1st problem: My bigger bridesmaids can't try the dress on.
2nd problem: My original color scheme for my wedding was black and white with red accents. I saw this dress in a color called 'tealness' and fell in love with the color. Do I change my color scheme?
3rd problem: My maid of honor HATES the dress and the color. She said the color is very 1980s (not sure if I agree).

I'd really appreciate some honest feedback. Do you like the tealness color or should I stick with black? Do you feel this dress would be flattering on bigger girls or am I lying to myself (lol)? Should I disregard my MOH's feelings about the dress and go with it anyway?
I literally went to 3 different places by myself and tried on EVERY SINGLE long/satin/ALine dress they had and I didn't like most of them... this one was my favorite, mostly because of the way it compliments my dress.

Please help me before I pull my hair out!!!! Thanks =)

Stressed Out~!

That is a beautiful dress and one I'm considering for my bridesmaids.
As for the 1st problem....it really is a universally flattering silhouette so it will definitely look good one anyone. I was in 2 weddings with the same friend who was substantially larger than the sample and couldn't try it on but they write equally as flattering dresses and looked good on her. She was ok with not trying them on.

2nd problem......if you really love the color than I say go for it. You have some time to change your mind about colors.

3rd problem.....and this is just my opinion but I feel like too many people let their bms and mohs dictate things for them. Its your wedding if you like the dress that's all that matters. I've been in weddings where I hated the dress but I ****** it up for the bride's sake and I'm sure your moh will as well.

Ok, that made me feel a little better. Honestly, if all of my MOHs and all of my BMs except 1 liked the dress, I'd say screw it and order it... but bc my MOH doesnt like it, it throws a wrench in it for me and makes me doubt myself... but deep down I know you're right. This is MY wedding and my biggest problem so far has been trying to please everyone else.

I say please yourself first, then worry about everyone else. This is someone who loves you she'll want you to be happy. Glad I could help.

Stressed Out~!

1. Ask your larger bridesmaid if she feels that this silhouette would look good on her. As someone who is a little bigger than I'd like to be, I know what looks good on me and what looks terrible on me. I happen to think sweetheart necklines look good on anyone.
2. This isn't neon teal, it's not very bright, and it isn't 80s. If the dress had puffy sleeves in this color, I'd think differently, but it doesn't.
3. I agree with the other girls, you do what you want to do. There's no reason to let one girl dictate your wedding, your vision. One of my BMs said it best: 'I'll wear a potato sack if that's what you think will fit your vision. I may hate it, but it really doesn't matter what I think.'

Hope this helped!!

I personally like the color but black looks good on everyone. Maybe this will make the larger BM's feel more comfortable.

if you love the dress tell your girls thats what they are wearing!!!! its not their day!!! I seriously don't get when bridesmaids give the bride a hard time!!! lets be honest- no one wears their bridesmaid dress a second time so im my opinion- if you don't like it don't be in the wedding!!!!

you should 100% have what you want!!! :)

as for colors- the color of the dress you posted is beautiful, but if you have a specific vision, just really think through if you want to change. why don't you do this blue as your accent color?

:)

This!

1. I'm a fatty and I would wear it and probably look fantastic!! LOL
2. It's a nice color, but Think of WHY you wanted the other scheme. If you like this more, then go with it. It's YOUR wedding!
3. I said the same thing to BFF, her two other bridesmaids were arguing over shades of purple and whether she looked at enough dresses. Tried to get me to side with them. I looked them dead in the eye said it's her wedding, if she gave me a trash bag and a belt and said here's your dress, I'd put it on and smile!

Stressed Out~!

I think it's. very flattering dress and they shouldn't need to try it on.. If they really want to, try looking the dress up to see if any other stores have different sizes!

I think the teal color is beautiful (not 80s and very in right now) but you will probably want to stick to your color scheme, making black very flattering on the different body types and working with your original vision

And Al's even though I don't think you should ever have to satisfy anyone but yourself and FH in this situation, I get why you wouldn't want your MOH to hate it! Maybe if you stick with black she will come around since it fits your scheme anyway and that takes away one aspect that she didn't like. It's called compromise! (Not that I think you should, but its another reason to stick with black!)

Stressed Out~!

I agree with all of the other ladies and can relate as I had drama with my MOH (sister) when it came to dresses. At the end of the day it is your vision and your day so if this is what you like unfortunately the BP is going to have to just deal it with it.

I don't think trying it on is THAT huge of a factor but maybe there is a comparable dress they can try on just for arguments sake. I do really like this color and think for a January wedding it is beautiful, but that is entirely up to you and if you are comfortable with changing your colors.

if you love the dress and color then you tell the girls that's what you want and that's what your doing. I still can't believe people have the audacity to try and dictate weddings when they're not the ones shelling out thousands!

when it comes to the fact of the girls not liking the dress... tell them to s*uck it up. i'm sure you wore a dress you didn't particulary care for once or twice for a wedding you were in.

Go to the wedding center in commack. they may have a bigger size because I know they carry alfred angelo!

regarding the colors... thats entirely up to you. you could still do the black with white accents and use this color instead of the red... but just take into account what you've already purchased regarding your 'vision' with the red/black/white color scheme!

Regarding the preggos and stuff... for my best friends wedding two of her girls were pregnant. One was going to be about 7 months pregnant and the other was either going to be 9 months or had JUST given birth (She ended up having the baby about 3.5 weeks prior to the wedding). We all had different body types and wore a chiffon empire waist dress that was (sort of) flattering on all of us. (me not so much but i was super fat back then)

HTH!!

I think the fit will be flattering on all body types, even if they cant all try on the sample. It is pretty basic and if it has structure, bigger girls will look better in it.

The color-- I read many people saying to do what you want and tell them to deal with your decision. While that is true, I think it matters who your bridesmaids are. If they are your sisters or his sisters, they have to look at the wedding pictures for the rest of their lives too, so you might want to listen to your MOH. If they are girlfriends, do what you like. But just remember the color scheme that made you gasp and feel like it is your wedding. Even if the dress color is beautiful, so is everything for a wedding! Listen to your brain and heart but try to see past those wedding beer goggles lol

Re: Stressed Out~!

Thanks for the input, ladies! It really helped with my decision.

I decided to go black on the dresses and instead of doing teal accents, I have decided to go with jewel tones (emerald, sapphire blue, ruby red and deep purple). These colors will be in my bouquet. I will probably stick with the black and white linens, as I originally planned so I dont have an explosion of color everywhere. I can use blue uplighting to give it a wintery look and pull from the jewel colors in the centerpieces. I feel like I am taking on a lot of colors but I think I can really put it together well as long as I dont overdo it.

I kept going over in my mind how can I do the black without it being too drab (because black is what I originally wanted) and I am really happy with this solution!
