TELL ME YOUR FAVORITE CHARITY!

So as I mentioned yesterday we are having raffles at the shower. Most of the money we collect will go to charity (a small portion will be for reimbursing some expenses like favors, decorations, etc.)

So girls tell me your favorite charity and then we will vote on it!!! And even if your not coming to the shower, you can still participate!

every year my sorority put on a fashion show for them! we raised over 15,000 for this cause!

LLS - (Leukemia and Lymphoma Society) - very near and dear to my heart. my youngest cousin (she was 11 at the time) she is also my Jr BM was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma and i became a VERY active volunteer and then committee member for the LLS. what those people do is unbelievable and how they work so hard everyday to create awareness and work towards a cure is inspiring. the best part about the LLS is that the money stays within the local chapter. (research funds are allocated to a lab in cold spring harbor) they also run family support groups, supply wigs to people in need, hold major charity events... a great organization.

LLS for me too. FH's Best man had Hodkins Disease last year and finally completed his treatment last month.

My mother passed away from ovarian cancer almost 10 years ago. So, these are important charities to me. She was also a big supporter and advocate for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

My favorites are really liberal animal rights and environmental ones. Since that can get really political, here are some others that I've supported in the past:

World Wildlife Fund
St. Jude's
American Cancer Society

Just throwing this idea out there...since this IS a LI message board, any ideas on local charities? I know of a bunch of no-kill shelters. Or maybe one that benefits local children? I think someone did a bake sale recently where the money went to a cause for hunger on LI...?
(Since we may do two donations, maybe one to a larger, more well-known and then one to a local cause?)

thats a good idea.....I was thinking maybe North Shore Animal League or a more local Animal Shelter....or maybe some women organizations like there has to be one for battered women.
