I've heard that I should tell bridal salons a date that is actually a few weeks before my actual wedding date. Are you all doing this? How far in advance should I tell them? I told them a date three weeks in advance, but now I'm thinking maybe that's too much?

Telling bridal salons a different date
I think my sisters both told them 1 week before the actual date. Three weeks sounds like a lot since you have alterations to do.

I actually told them a date 1 month before my date since I've heard many horror stories of dresses not coming in until 2 weeks before the real date. I wanted to avoid that at all costs, even though I ordered by dress 8 months before hand.

Re: Telling bridal salons a different date
When I ordered my dress, the bridal consultant said that she was putting one month before as my wedding date. I was okay with it, but in the end, all my alterations were done early, and they've been hounding me to pick up my dress for the past month now. My last fitting was almost 2 months before the wedding and now I'm just hoping it fits when I pick it up tonight!

I've heard the same thing from some people, but others say to just be honest. My feeling is that if a salon is reputable, telling them the honest date is no problem. Check out some reviews of the store and what other people are saying about their experiences. I still haven't ordered 'my' dress yet. I kinda feel like I haven't shopped enough, but I am kind of in love with one dress. Still looking for another bridal salon to go to but the place where I found 'the' dress, beats every place in alterations, big time!

Re: Telling bridal salons a different date
I wouldn't do this. I dropped a TON of weight in the last weeks before my wedding due to stress. I had my last fitting 7 days before the wedding. I probably would've been SWIMMING in my dress if I had lied and told them an earlier date since it would've thrown off all my fittings. Besides, if you trust a salon enough to fork over thousands of dollars, you shouldn't NEED to lie. I certainly didn't. My dress was in in 3 months when I was told 9.
