I think it's a nasty email even though she tries to make it sound nice and supportive halfway through, that tone is very condescending and would be enough to make me not work with her. There's a way you speak to people in business and that to me is not appropriate.

Re: A little shocked
I know exactly who this is because I received a few nasty emails myself! I think she tries to cover up the fact that she is being b*itchy. Her invitations are beautiful and the price was great so I went ahead and ordered them from her---but i set the record strait that i didn't appreciate her tone.

Re: A little shocked
I have a feeling that I know who it is, and I am a little shocked myself to say the least... that is an awful lot of ranting words for her to say that she could've summed up in a simple 'I think it would help if you were more specific about what you want. Maybe you can look at some inspiration boards, etc'

Re: A little shocked
omg When reading the beginning I thought the person was being very rude, exceptionally with all the exclamation points. Towards the end I feel they save themselves a little but I don't know. If you feel offended by the email I would discuss this with them and tell them that you are not creative and are looking to them for guidance. I hope it all works out!

Honestly I dont think its a big deal at all. She is trying to be honest with you. I HATE when people sugar coat things and treat me like a baby. I appreciate honesty, even if its brutal MUCH more than someone being fake nice to me.Shes just letting you know that by being vague she isnt going to know what you want. She is trying to help you. Dont take it personal!

while i do agree with this, you have to understand that we don't like being taken of advantage of either. Doing a few changes is cool, but when you're asked to do 6, 8, 12.....not cool.
She should change her policy though.....i would charge after 3 or 4 if i were her. I think it's weird she'll do a ton of mockups for people and then if they decide to not use her? she just worked for free

I hear ya; I don't think vendors should be slaves to their customers or anything like that. Buttttt I think that the vendor in this case could've just been more concise and to the point...ie. 'Please be more specific in your whatever' To me, personally, the vendor's response just seemed like a long rant and I can't say I find that too favorable.

I appreciate the feedback, but I was definitely not taking advantage of her. I was looking for some direction and felt like it could have been said a little nicer. So far, she has shown me 2 invites and I went back and told her what I liked and didn't, so not sure where that email came from. In other words, I only posted the email to get someone else's perspective.

I think that we all read things differently and that her exclamatory statements should be viewed as trying to help. I can read this and say she's nasty, or I can read it and believe she is sweet. I think it's how you want to perceive it. It seems as though you were expecting a nastiness throughout the reading, which caused you to lean that way. I was giving her the benefit of the doubt when I read it and I think she's really just trying to push you in the right direction. What do you NEED? -- That can be taken as, OMG, you always need something...OR it can be taken as, tell me what I can't leave out because I want you to be 100% happy.

totally not referring you. i really was stating it as a general thing. See to me, 2 things is nothing, sometimes even 4 so i don't know where that email is coming from either.
maybe she's just in a rotten mood today and you're just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I think it's a lot of assume that I was expecting anything nasty from the email. I totally wasn't because she has been completely nice and responsive up to this point, which is why I was shocked. I just wanted someone else's perspective is all I was saying.

That's why I love this site, to get a different perspective. I appreciate everyone's honesty. Thanks.

from being on that end, i see nothing wrong with what they wrote. they're not being mean at all.
as an artist, we are not mind readers. and depending on if you're paying them by the hour to do the work, it clarifies that email even more.
ye from living with my FH who is in the same profession he would def say and did say in the same tone before. but usually he does follow up with a call to explain himself better. as Alyssa said they arent mind readers and he would get esp frustrated when I would say make it very royal looking lol
I totally get what she is trying to say and I used myself that tone with vendors when what I was asking wasnt addressed properly, so why not the other way around esp when saying that thru the email she might not coming across as she intends

uhm... honestly? i kindda like her attitude. she means business and she just wants detailed stuff!
but that's just me. i want my vendors to be frank because i'm frank too.

Re: A little shocked
i think that if you were speaking over the phone it would have came across differently. I dont think she meant to be rude at all but just trying to help you because she is kinda right. Its hard for her too to make something you love when she doesn't have an idea if what you will love. I def think things can come out differently through email. i actually felt the same way with someone I was dealing with. But then I realized they had the right to be a little frustrated with me because of all the back and forth

Re: A little shocked
I think she was just trying to get some real direction. I don't think she meant it nasty either. She was just stressing the importance of having a solid idea of what you would like.
I also agree that a lot is lost in translation across the internet. If you arn't 100% sure how to take it or how to explain what you want though email, call her. If you have a contract (sent with the 1st proof) her phone number is on it. I am sure it would be cleared up quickly and honestly through one phone call. Then she would have a good idea and you would rest better knowing she 'got' that idea.
If you don't have it and would like her number FM me and I will get it for you when I get home.

I want to correct what I said in my earlier post. I was not assuming you were expecting anything nasty, but that you were almost jumping to that. I do the same thing with my vendors. I think they should do everything in their power to help you, but when I step back, sometimes I see I'm being unreasonable. (This is not to say you are being unreasonable.) It's a good thing that you can ask for help deciphering an email. I was just trying to say that if you feel like it was nasty, then maybe she's not the vendor for you regardless of her intentions! I hope this clears things up from my perspective.

i definitely didnt find it snarky or snide. ive dealt with this person before, and i appreciate the fact that she is straightforward. i agree with alyssa and regy, she really needs to pinpoint your vision esp with the time crunch. i think you def should call her to discuss it further since its really hard to communicate via email sometimes.

Re: A little shocked
I think she sounded condescending in the beginning but then she acknowledged that this wasn't coming out right because of e-mail, I understood her point. Maybe you can look on-line at sample invites that you like and send them to her.
