Re: The Official 2007 French Polynesia Thread

I'm trying to make a list of things i need to buy for the honeymoon.
1) Will you be buying and bringing your own snorkel gear? If so...where would i be able to purchase one?
2) What about water aqua shoes??
3) How much sunblock do i need to bring? I bought 2 bottles of Neutrogena SPF 55 from Costco the other day. Do i need more? Probably do right?
4) How much cash are you planning to bring? Can i put everything on a credit card? Are there some places (like local grocery stores) that do not accept CC? If so, do i need to exchange the cash or do they accept US$?
6) Does anyone know if the resorts allow earlier check-in? The reason why i'm asking is that my flight arrives in Tahiti at 530am and we're planning to take the earliest ferry to Moorea (probably be the 730am ferry) and hopefully be able to check in our bags and start the day. If we're not able to check in i don't know what we will be able to do for all those hours with our luggage in tow.

SOrry so many questions...I'm getting really antsy about this trip. I'm really excited and i'm trying to put everything together!

I REPLIED IN ALL CAPS SO YOU'D SEE MY RESPONSES EASIER

I'm trying to make a list of things i need to buy for the honeymoon.
1) Will you be buying and bringing your own snorkel gear? If so...where would i be able to purchase one?
NOT SURE IF WE'RE BRINGING OUR OWN SNORKEL GEAR (WE'D HAVE TO BUY IT) BECAUSE OF THE WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS ON THE LUGGAGE - WILL PROBABLY JUST USE THE RESORT'S SNORKEL GEAR.

2) What about water aqua shoes??
DEFINITELY BRING WATER SHOES/SOCKS. THERE'S USUALLY CORAL AND WHATNOT SO PEOPLE RECOMMEND BRINGING THESE.

3) How much sunblock do i need to bring? I bought 2 bottles of Neutrogena SPF 55 from Costco the other day. Do i need more? Probably do right?
HOW MANY DAYS ARE YOU GOING FOR? I THINK 2 OF THE COSTCO NEUTROGENA BOTTLES SHOULD BE ENOUGH FOR UPTO 2 WEEKS.

4) How much cash are you planning to bring? Can i put everything on a credit card? Are there some places (like local grocery stores) that do not accept CC? If so, do i need to exchange the cash or do they accept US$?
HMMM, MAYBE $500 IN CASH? I THINK WE'LL MOSTLY JUST USE OUR CREDIT CARD. I'VE HEARD OF PEOPLE ONLY BRINGING $200 IN CASH.

THEY WILL USUALLY LET YOU CHECK IN EARLY IF THEY HAVE A ROOM AVAILABLE. IF THEY DON'T, THEY WILL HOLD YOUR LUGGAGE FOR YOU, WHILE YOU ENJOY THE POOL AND GROUNDS AND YOU CAN JUST CHECK IN LATER.

HOPE THIS HELPS!

Thanks!! I can't stop looking at tahiti pics online...

1 night at Sheraton Tahiti
at Moorea Pearl we booked Garden bungalo w/pool
at Intercontinental Thalasso Bora Bora- Emerald OWB

now I just need to get in shape b/c between last year and this year I bought like 8 new bikinis all still with tags that I need to fit into...
oh, and give myself a tighter budget b/c I really want to go to the spa at least once while on the honeymoon

I booked with Liberty Travel in Queens...
we were quoted $9,500 & he gave us some tips ...where to go buy pearls without being harrassed to purchase - Pearl Farm

told us about how yes, we should book nice meals on a couple of nights but most of the time you can just go to the store & pick up some stuff to make sandwhiches.

he said that Bora Bora had the most gorgeous sunsets/ sunrise that he's ever seen...I can't wait

Congratulations on booking your honeymoon. We are also staying at the Moorea Pearl, don't forget to request room 228 or 229, KandE said they have the biggest pools.

Why don't you try pricing the cruise... There is a review on the Tahiti cruise on the honeymoon boards.

That's a good idea. THere are a few cruise options. One leaves from Hawaii (note: the flights to Hawaii are considerably cheaper than the flights to Tahiti). THis cruise goes to the Hawaiian islands AND the French Polynesian islands. But you don't spend much time on any island.

THen there's the Paul Gaughin (sp?) cruise which is said to be VERY nice and luxurious.

THere's also the Tahitian Princess cruise that goes to the islands, but is a larger ship than the Paul Gaughin.

There are some less expensive ways of going out there - mostly it would mean staying less days (like 7 instead of 10-14). Also, the room category that you stay in makes a big difference in price, so you can stay in garden bungalows to save money (and then just do one or two nights in an OWB). Also, Bora Bora (and Tahaa) are the more expensive islands. You can spend most of your time in Moorea and then just do a couple of days in Bora Bora to minimize costs.

If you want, contact my TA, Tom Varghese, at [email protected]. Tell him what your budget is and he'll let you know if it's possible and if so, how you can do it. He can also help you if you decide to do something else like the Caribbean etc.
