The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!

Original post by Sassy

Ladies, let's help each other plan our HMs.
Since we all are mainly going to the same islands (I'm going to Maui and Kauai, and I know lots are too- also Oahu is popular among us) let's post the activites/tours that we find interesting so we can help each other.

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!

Just adding my $0.02 as a fellow Hawaiian hm'er!
This is a long one!

We bought the book ...
Hawaii for Dummies

and used it for all of our restaraunt & activity pics. It was an excellent resource.

Here's my review:

Kauaii (Hyatt) .... our hands down favorite!! I still dream about it!

activities ...

helicopter tour ... All Island - a 1hr+15min tour of the island. I didn't want to really do this, but I'm glad I did! It was an experience I'll never forget. We also got a video to take home with us.

snorkel tour ... there are several good ones that go out of the Poipu area. We did a half day cruise & it was fantastic! We saw dolphins & humpback whales (we were there in Dec!)

sightseeing ... we took a day and drove the island up past Princeville to the end of the road where the beach is ... Ka'a .. I think it is. Beautiful drive ... worth seeing.

We loved the Hyatt pool & spent many hours there. We had breakfast at a close by restaurant called ... Joe's on the Green. A great cheap place where the food was great! The spa was terrific too!

Mauii ... Hyatt also.

We didn't like it as much b/c we went there last & was dissapointed compared to Kauaii. but if you're going first, you'll love it! Breakfast is so expensive, there so if you can get it in your package, its worth it.

Road to Hana ... this was an overrated day. I would have preferred, in hind sight, to have relaxed this day or done something else. We could have picked one or two things to see & been happy. Everything was ok except the BLACK SAND BEACH. That was worth seeing. IMO ... skip it all & go right there!!!

The pool at Hyatt was small & crowded when we were there. There were a ton of kids there & not much privacy. But then again, after the Hyatt Kauaii, we were definitely spoiled.

Luau ... Feast at Lele. This is not to be missed!!! We loved the private dining table & up front seating for newleyweds. The show was terrific & we didn't have to share our seating with strangers. The Old Laihaina Luau is just as good but its family style. We didn't want that.

As far as a day trip to Oahu ... we didn't want to give up a day for it & did not feel bad. It would have added extra money & taken away time for it. I'm not sorry ... we may go back, we may go then.

Cars ... we had a convertible in Kauaii & a Jeep in Mauii. You don't worry about the rain b/c it hardly does & then you put the top up. If you have a frequent flier card, you can usually can get upgrade discounts. Try this first. If you wait to upgrade till you get there, it'll cost you more ... we did ... we should have brought our coupons, but forgot.

Good luck girls! You'll have the trip of a lifetime!!!!

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!

I agree I bought the Hawaii for dummies and I have read everything. There are also 2 other books that I bought- Maui revealed and Kuai revealed.

These are even better than Hawaii for dummies!!!!

I can't wait to go--

I have been speaking to alot of people about Oahu. They all tell me the same thing. That I did a good thing with going with the day trip to Oahu. Everyone who did stay there said to me that they wished they had not and added another day to either Maui or Kuai.

Just thought you guys would like to know...

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!

Liz ... I KNOW you wish you were there right now! I'm not kidding ... I had dreams about the Anara Spa at the Hyatt the other night .... maybe I should tell Vinnie that's what he should get me for my b'day!!

I'm glad you found it helpful .... the book is amazing! Right on the money about everything ... follow their advice, you'll be glad you did!! Also .. use

Tom's Cashback Tours .... to book your actvities. Compare their prices to those online, you may do better, but they are also an excellent resource for activities & reservations. We even booked Feast at Lele through them.

I wish I could go with you guys, but have fun!!!!

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!

Hill ... I think you're right about Oahu. I wouldn't take a day away from another island to do it. In all honesty, it'll cost you almost 2 days b/c when you land you're exhausted & will just crash. The next day you'll spend the day there & then fly out. Then when you land where ever you're going, you've lost almost a whole day there, depending on your itinerary.

Another tip: Confirm your inter-island flights early on ... like Two weeks before. They change schedules often & you want to be on the earliest possible flight in the morning! The worst thing that happened to us was that we got late flights that became even later b/c the schedule changed on us!!

Does the Hyatt have spas that you can both have one together?

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!

We are planning a day trip to Oahu, FH is a big history buff and wants to see Pearl Harbor/Arizona. Our travel agent advised us not to book the trip until we get there, as sometimes you can get cheaper fares the day of. I think it will make it easier on us to only fly in/out of two islands w. luggage, etc. A day trip is OK,but I did not want to haul everything around to stay in Oahu overnight.

Betty I am doing the day trip to Oahu and we are doing it while we are on Kuai-
because we are in Maui 5 night and Kuai 6 nights....

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!

Thank you! I'm afraid to wait to book it when we get there b/c what if they are sold out or if you can't get an early flight UUUGGGGG so confusing!!!

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!

Betty, they have the massages that are for couples. They do it and teach you how to massage each other too

browneyes, I figure our first day we will be relaxing, then spruce it up day 2, 3, and 4, then relax for the remainder.
So that would make me available for tubing on June 7th, 8th or 9th

do any of those dates work for you?

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Liz!!! I really want to do that

mmm Massages.... I can't wait for that either.

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!

Betty ... Hyatt definitely does have massages for 2, but I was not comfortable with that idea. BUT YOU WILL LOOOOOOVVVEEE the spa. It's so beautiful with natural landscaping, an 'outdoor' shower that you won't want to leave, all the rooms have an open wall with waterfalls (hard to explain ... wait till you see it!)

I would call ahead about a week or so to make your appt at the spa. We wanted ours as early as possible to make use of the day as well. Appt's go FAST!! DON'T MISS IT .... YOU'LL BE DREAMING OF IT TOO!!!
