Ladies, let's help each other plan our HMs. Since we all are mainly going to the same islands (I'm going to Maui and Kauai, and I know lots are too- also Oahu is popular among us) let's post the activites/tours that we find interesting so we can help each other.

We got a jeep for both islands and I don't think it was more $$ (at least we weren't told it was) She said any car we wanted.

We got a jeep for one, and a convertible for the other. Cannot remember which was for which island though Whatever island has the road to hana, we got the jeep for that one. There was no extra cost, the rentals were included in our price.

That makes me curious. Why did you only get the jeep for one island? We were going back and forth - should we get a jeep for both or jeep for one and convertible for the other.

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!
We did the hiking tour (instead of horseback) in Kauai with the picnic lunch. It was very nice. We also went to see the canyons. We rented a car in Maui and drove around to all the sites ourselves. In Oahu, we went to Pearl Harbor of course.
Have a great time ladies!

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!
That's so funn 2003, we JUST went through the same dilema last weekend
We decided to take the day trip. FH didn't really want to lug everything over to another island. I was up in the sair b/c my uncle (who has been there twice) said to take the flight home from Oahu so you could spend a night there and see the sights.
FH really didn't want to do that so we are taking the day trip. I am now trying to figure out if we shoudl book the day trip before we go or when we get there. I think the flights are just about everyday every hour or so.

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!
Hi everyone, sorry I've been MIA -- I'm back
2003- For Maui, I'm staying at the Hyatt for 5 nights in a Mountainview room. Breakfast is Not included anymore since I'm not staying there for Kauai, I don't know how much it was separately, but I'm staying at Princeville in Kauai WITH breakfast every morning, oceanview room. MY total for everything incl all flights and insurance, etc. . is $5800
I get a jeep in both islands. Yay !!!!!
About the day trip, this is still under consideration. We for sure do not want to spend the night, too much lugging around, but I'm not sure if we're even going at all at this point. I have to talk to Len some more.

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!
2003-it looks like you have a lot of time there. If we were going longer we probably would have stayed in Oahu..so I think that's a good idea. We only have enough time for 5 nights in Maui and 5 nights Kauai (we have to get home for a wedding).
Our flights have stop overs too in LA

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!
2003- your idea to stay in oahu when you get there sounds good I don't know what to do, I don't want to miss out on a day in Maui or Kauai, but I don't want to extend the HM either.
As for my flights, it's direct from NY to San Francisco, 2 hour layover, then from SF to Maui. I have to check for the return when I get home.

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!
i know liz-that is a tough decision---i figured that i may not ever get back to HI so i wanted to see it all!--on 1 hand, maybe take a day away from maui since your hotel might be less expensive there (you might not want to miss a day at the princeville b/c you are paying so much to stay there)......and on the other there is more to see in maui so you will need quite a few days there to tour---i know i didn't just help you at all!sorry!.....i'd say do it --check out the flight times and see how you could make the most of your time..........

Be Careful of STAFF Infection from those alluring waterfalls/lagoons.
My FI and I swam in one and it was beautiful, thank god we had no cuts. However, the other couple we knew had a scrape on their legs, and it turned into a staff infection because of the bacteria in these alluring waterfalls.
However, i will never forget that beautiful drive to HANA.

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!
Just wanted to add my 2 cents:
we spent 4 nights on Kauai and 6 on Maui....we planned to do a day trip to Oahu but never did. People say it's easy to hop a flight and go over, but it's really not! First, you have to go through security and all, regardless of where you're going, which is very time consuming. Second, the last thing I wanted to do was get back on another plane once we finally go there! I felt a little guilty about missing Pearl Harbor, but I don't regret not going - from what I heard it's really crowded anyway.
Liz - Breakfast is ridiculously expensive at the Hyatt! They have an open buffet which was great but it was $20 each for breakfast - everyday that adds up! If it wasn't included in our room we would have ventured out to eat. Oh, and if you do stay at the hotel to eat, get there early! Any day after 9 AM you had to wait about 10-15 mins before being seated.

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!
oh, and Kathy - I agree! Ironically we went all the way to HI and never sat on their beaches! We were quite content at the pool. As beautiful as the beaches were, we heard of shark sightings in some areas, and in others there aren't bathrooms or anything nearby, so we just stayed at the resort.
I hadn't heard of any staph infections but I wouldn't be too surprised, especially in the lagoon type areas.

Re: The OFFICIAL Hawaii Honeymooners thread!!!!
I found some more to do's on Kauai and Maui. I got these off of fodors.com visitors to Hawaii.
Kauai helicopter tour with Inter island Helicopters - http://www.hawaiian.net/~interisland/index.html. It was spectacular. We did the waterfall landing tour that ran about $250/person, but it was well worth it. The pilot was great and showed you all of the amazing sites of the island. ½ way through the flight you land at a secluded waterfall, have lunch, and then frolic in the pool of the waterfall.
Maui My parents used Temptation Tours and did the Sky-Trek. They said it was amazing. Since they did the 11:00am tour they had a 40-minute helicopter tour then they landed in Hana and got on a tour van. The tour van stopped at a lot of places and if they wanted to stop anywhere else, they would. If you don’t want to drive or you’re not much of a hiker, this is a great option.
Snorkeling - we used Maui Divers and took a 10:00am boat to Molokini. It was great. The boat ONLY had snorkelers and there were only about 24 people. We got out to the crater as the other boats were leaving. Lots of fish! They also take you to 'the 19th hole' which is a place a lot of sea turtles are spotted. We saw about 12 or so!
Old Lahiana Luau - a fun night out. It’s $75 for a buffet and all-you-can-drink beverages. The entertainment was wonderful (I have nothing to compare it to as this was the only luau we went to). The waiters are fun and the sunset from there is amazing!
Lahiana - this is THE place to souvenir shop. They have everything from high-end galleries to 5 shirts for $20.

i found a really interesting thing to do on Kauai. it's called Kauai Back country Adventures. it's 3 hours of sitting in a tube floating down an old irrigation 'stream' that is no longer used.
Lahaina Town Just five minutes away you'll find historic Lahaina. Once the bustling whale center of the Pacific and capital of Hawaii, the town now boasts an impressive enclave of shops, boutiques, are galleries and restaurants.
Whaler's Village Just a short stroll from the Royal Lahaina is Whaler's Village, Kaanapali's premier shopping destination. Here you'll find 'Splashin' Fashions' (beachwear), 'Treasure Chests' (jewelry stores), Marine Cuisine (oceanfront seafood restaurants) and 'Fun Food' (ice cream, yogurt and coffee), along with upscale shopping, art galleries and more.
Hana Occupying the extreme eastern tip of Maui is heavenly Hana, an unspoiled village accessible by a scenic highway, whose winding road has become legend and a famous visitor excursion. Haleakala Crater Haleakala, or 'House of the Sun,' is a dormant volcano rising 10,000 feet above sea level. Once at the crater's rim, visitors are presented with a view of an enormous crater that is large enough to contain all of Manhattan.
Skyline Trail It's eight miles all downhill, with a dazzling 100-mile view of the Hawaiian Islands that dot the blue Pacific.
Iao Needle An awesome volcanic ridge that rises 2.250 feet and is surrounded by many hiking trails and picnic grounds including Iao Valley State Park.
Kipahulu Valley - Haleakala National Park Though referred to as 'Seven Sacred Pools,' this area is one of Maui's popular tourist attractions that displays 24 large and many small sparkling mountain pools along one mile of the valley's main stream, Oheo Gulch.
Maui Ocean Center Featuring the largest tropical reef aquarium in the Western Hemisphere that features the magical underwater nature of Hawaii. Hawaii's ocean is showcased in over 60 self-paced interactive exhibits where marine animals live in habitats closely resembling their own natural environments.
Molokini Offshore between Maui and the island of Kahoolawe rises the 80-ft crescent remnant of a 10,000 year old dormant volcano that is also a sanctuary for marine and bird life. This is one of the Pacific's most in-demand snorkeling, scuba and snuba diving destinations. Daily boat tours are available.

Waipouli Beach Once the exclusive home of Kauai's royalty, historic Waipouli Beach is now an ideal spot to relax and enjoy the warmth of Hawaii's 'Garden Isle' with a morning walk, an afternoon of sun tanning or a romantic evening stroll.
Fern Grotto Just a few minutes away you'll find the Fern Grotto, site of many of Kauai's most memorable weddings. A massive green lava tube, the Fern Grotto is located along the Wailua River and can be reached by flat-bottom boat.
Captain Cook Memorial 25 minutes south of the resort lies Kealakekua Bay, the spot where British Captain James Cook perished after becoming the first Western explorer to discover the Hawaiian Islands.
Wailua River Classified as one of the top two most sacred spots in all of Hawaii, the Wailua River- meaining 'two rivers,' extends back into a lush vally with many natural splendors along the way. Within minutes from the Kauai Coconut Beach, there are boat tours and many guests enjoy kayaking up the river on their own.
Na Pali Coast The unspoiled stretch of coastline, unmarked by raods, the Na Pali Coast is accessible only by boat, helicopter, or via one of Hawaii's most famous hiking trails.
Waimea Canyon Nicknamed the 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific,' this 3,567-foot deep canyon is brushed with deep shades of russet, jade, amber, rose and gold, and is a 'must see' for any visitor to Kauai.
Sprouting Horn During high tides, a geyser can reach up to 60 feet while creating groaning sounds that legend tales a sea monster are from the tides as it courses underneath the rocky edge.
Opaekaa Falls Nearby, this popular waterfall offers visitors an ideal chance to gaze at the 40 feet fall with multiple cascades that flow year round.
