OMG i stumbled upon this thread and it bought back memories.
Without naming a hall... The wedding was beautiful except for a few details. The bride was late to the church almost 1hr late..it happens. But the worst part was the hall, the food was good but instead of a buffet type deal where you get your own..they did it like thanksgiving styyle. The servers put dishes with food on the table and everyone took some and passed it around. Mind u people are talking so spit is flying. I barely touched anything. Also when they ran out of stuff..it was hell to get them to bring out more. And the worst part of this all..the brides mom had on a gold lame dress and she was plus sized..it was not flattering at all...And last but not least..the MOH had a really bad weave and looke dlike a black dolly parton.
We had fun but it showed me how details can make or break a day.

Re: the worst ...what
While I agree that it is the bride and groom's day and the wedding is beautiful just because of what it's celebrating, there are other factors that come into play.
I went to a wedding for a college housemate a year after we graduated in Massachusetts. The wedding was on the groom's parents' farm, which was fine. The issue was that there were horses and other barn animals literally 15 feet from where we were eating. It was disgusting!! There were flies and you could smell the manure.

I've been to a very expensive country club wedding on LI, were all they had was a little table at the CH hour full of cheese and crackers. Also there was pillars in the way of the dance floor, and hardly anyone was dancing. Also my parent went to a out of state wedding where the reception was in the basement of the church, and they served home cooked food on paper plates. NO music, and no dancing, and no Alcohol.

Re: the worst ...what
Went to a wedding two years ago with the most ANNOYING photographer EVER!!! (Don't worry, he has since retired!!)
He kept making guests stop eating and stop dancing to take pics and when he took them he would say 'SMILE....HAPPY, HAPPY!!' in this really loud obnoxious voice.
My friend was 7 months pregnant at the time and he told her she should sit down in the pic because 'adding ten pounds to you would make the film too heavy to develop.'
He was just really irritating.
The only other wedding complaints I have are when FH and I get stuck at the 'couples' table separate from all of our single friends. We always get stuck with the married cousins and the co-workers because we are a long-term couple and most of our friends are just dating. It makes me realize the importance of seating arrangements.

All my parents had the same experiece at a wedding a few weeks ago. They had crackers and cheese and it was so out of place cause people saw the name of the hall and expcted more.
As for the chruch wedding in the basement. Some people dont get into the wedding planning like we do.
As for eaogara..all I can say is ewwwwwwwwww

I just had to say this...I hardly ever get a chance to go to this site as much as I want to b/c my job is a nightmare...i love reading the posts and try to write when i can...but i have to say...maybe some people have good intentions when giving reviews but i can't help but feel upset when I hear a certain hall singled out and then someone proceeds to name the terrible things about it. I don't know why, I guess I am taking it personally and yes, my hall had bad things said about it (fox hollow). Which is FINE...i mean feedback is feedback-but some posts are MUCH harsher-like 'oh my god the place was TERRIBLE'. I just can't stand that. Lets have some sensitivity here-there may be a bride to be reading that, who just booked the hall because she loved it and it makes them feel nothing but hurt. I guess Im just saying we should all try to be sensitive and tactful when giving reviews :) I'm not trying to offend anyone.

Well, the thing that comes to mind was not the bride's fault, but at my sister's wedding, her MIL showed up in this slinky white dress with sequins, a high slit up the thigh, and the top was assymetrical (I think that's what they call it when there's fabric on one shoulder but not the other). And it was an afternoon wedding! I was pissed for my sister!
That is horrible!!!
Yea, it was pretty bad. I was furious, and it wasn't even my wedding!
Seriously!!! There are so many things wrong with that I can't even begin! Damn, my FMIL said that her dress for the wedding was cream colored, and I told her that mine is Ivory, and that it might be too close to mine...and DUH the bride is the ONLY one that is supposed to be all White/Ivory!
Isn't this a known thing!?!
NO white to a wedding NO Red to a funeral
sorry, I just get exasperated at people

i totally understand what you are saying i have just booked the fox hollow and honestly i am not hurt at all everyone on this board has heard bad things about all of there halls. everyhall has an off night. all i have to say is it better not be my night. all through my search for places there were some that are very reputable that i was not impressed with at all. Everyone has there own opinion though. We have to know that everyone is not going to love everyones wedding everyone has different tastes. and some people just dont have 'taste'. if you know what i mean...

Ok..I understand the post about a hall being named but this post isnt really about bashing a specific hall, I bumped the thread because I found it to be interesting. So can we all just post about what the initial post is about. Its actaully a good post so let snot flame it.

Re: the worst ...what
I know...I think i may have worded my response wrong-I have read so many reviews on reception sites and of course no one will love everything about a place even if you do, and i know thats what matters in the end :) I guess I just mean that if someone comes across as really harsh...like they HATED a particular hall and process to bash every aspect of it...which has happened a few times on this site, i don't know....i just get taken back. It's like i read the post and cringe because I feel bad for anyone who is so looking forward to their day...and to stumble across a bad review when the post was a general question to begin with (not on the 'brides review' boards, i guess i was just sensitive to it. I'm also pms'ing, haha...

Re: the worst ...what
I went to two weddings that really left something to be desired.
The first was a top rated hall out east. The bride chose an all raw bar CH. There was muscles, oysters and shrimp. That's it - no bread, no veges, no cheese.
The other was at a 'wedding factory' The food was horrible and it was very cold. We were told they couldn't make it warmer or the ice sculpture would melt.

Re: the worst ...what
Ok...so BAD reviews:
(To protect the innocent, i won't mention names or places but...)
One wedding, the hall- which is known for having multiple weddings, had probably 4 weddings at once. It was annoying to see 3 brides walking around and none of them were my friend! STRANGE...but JMO. The BAD parts of the wedding itself:
The B & G planned the wedding in like 2 months..so NOTHING was organized. THe ceremony was the strangest thing ever...Jewish but NOT. We've all seen Jewish weddings before, and this was just wierd. There were no vows to hear, and we didn't even see them put on rings!!! You couldn't hear anything going on...and the whole ceremony, the back door in the room (which was like, a conference room) kept opening, and I would hear waiters talking!
THE COCKTAIL HOUR: No joke; people were practically pulling up chairs next to the food stations! THE RUDEST supposed sophisticated group I've ever seen! My friends and I went to this wedding thinking that we were the 'comoners' there...and we were the nicest and most polite! The Bride's family was behaved SO BADLY i couldn't even get over it! ALSO: and this is the HALL's fault - I asked the servers at the cocktail stations what the food was, and I swear one of them was like: I don't know. It's green'. If you can't handle knowing what your serving, then get a job at McDonalds!
We knew we WERE NOT getting married there, that was for sure!
Another wedding...the flowers were ugly in my opinion...the colors just looked cheap and not at all what the Bride wanted That was totally not her fault though.

Re: the worst ...what
Dont feel bad. I understood where you were coming from. We picked a hall that was not as popular and it got bashed about the food too from some, some didnt like the rooms etc. And then I'd read posts where people liked it. From what I have learned is that a wedding is made up of many things. A great hall is one, food is another, dress, entertainment etc. You can have one and not the other.

Re: the worst ...what
You are 100% right. I know its what you make of the day, and knowing you are excited about your wedding is all that should matter. :)
On that note i'll add my own bad experience...my fathers wedding....lets just say-his wifes side of the family wore jeans and sneakers and a fist fight broke out between the maid of honor and her cousin...knocked the maid of honor's tooth out. And she only had about 2 in her head to begin with....yup, classy

Re: the worst ...what
I am posting under an anonymous name--but I have to get honest with some of you who I consider friends---it's insane how the very people on here who admit to being sensitive, even paranoid, and who take each comment made to them, look given to them, etc. so hard (and I may be among you here), don't hesitate to bash a wedding online.
Do you ever stop and think that maybe both you--the poster--and the bride you're bashing/pitying--may be infitinely recognizable to one or more of the thousands of viewers this site gets? What do you get out of trashing/pitying people? Isn't the word scheudenfraude--the german word that describes the peverse pleasure people get from watching others perils/foibles---is this who you are?
I anticipate protests that you're just warning others, passing time...but really--think about the aspect of your own wedding--whether you've had it yet or not--that you're most sensitive or nervous about--the thing you could least afford to spend time or money on---and imagine a beloved friend/guest who you invited to share your joy--posting a mean 'review' of YOUR wedding---and imagine how you'd feel. Is the price of warning others worth that.... Think before you post please.

Re: the worst ...what
I understand what you are saying here. There is nothing wrong to me personally for giving details that a person did not like about anothers wedding...I htink it gets insensitive when a hall is named and people who picked that hall get upset..Its natural so I try to not name names because i knew how i felt.
I can even add myself to this list of worst. We ahd our wedding at Coral house and our Dj was late. Thank goodness it was during dinner but to me that is the worst of my day which was mostly un-noticed (thank you GOD). SO for me if I give a comment on something..I can turn the tables on myself. And to be honest sometimes when a bride asks my opinion on osmething if it is a good enough friend I do tell her the pros, the cons and the ugly.

Re: the worst ...what
I went to a wedding that was all bad...the bride broke out in an incredible rash from stress, so she had on very little makeup, the DJ broke the CD player, so he was limited to whatever vinyl he brought & the food was really bad; a bunch of us got sick afterward.
It was just bad luck.... Luckily, the B&G laughed most of it off & are still going strong 15 years later. They even had a 're-do' for their 10 yr anniversary that was GORGEOUS

Re: the worst ...what
I went to my cousin's first wedding years ago, and the bride wouldn't take the traditional bite of cake because she was 'on a diet!' Needless to say from the way I wrote this, the marriage didn't last. I'm going to his second wedding next week and his new fiance is a breath of fresh air in comparison to that mental case.

In reply to 'HONEST'
I think the 'sensitive' thing has gone a little too far IMO. I am a very sensitive person and I try to be respectful of others...but come on now! I am sorry if you are hurt reading things and bothered by peoples opinions...but that is what this forum is for! Opinions I have been GREATFUL for negative remarks about my hall, since it allows me to go and ASK them questions and inquire into possible problems. I might suffer the same fate as an unfortuante bride if I didn't hear the stories.
I will say that the 'Gossip/Sharing' border is crossed quite a bit, but that's probably 50/50 around here. Half the stuff we discuss is gossip and the other half is serious and helpful. JMO again, but if we all walk on eggshells for everyone we won't say anything useful!
