Re: the worst ...what
I find that ever since I got engaged I am SO critical of other people's wedding. I tear the whole thing apart. I went to a wedding in November 03 and I figured I'd like it because it was a Fall theme just like mine. I hated the flowers and the colors of the dresses. I guess because I have a vision of what my WHOLE wedding day will look like so if someone else's doesn't look like that I have something to say. I guess it's just me! Oh well, I thought I'd share. Now you probably think I'm horrible!

I have!! It was an old co-worker. It was one of the hottest days known to man. And the place didn't have air conditioning. The 'bar' was a garbage can w/ cans of beer. The food was from a local chinese restaraunt & food her family made. They didn't have the DJ until her parents left. Which meant boredom for 2 1/2 hours. Not to mention she was about 5'1' and her dress had about 7 feet of lace & frill. It was HORRIBLE!!!

OMG!!! No way! I sound like a snob even to myself but that it pretty bad...

Re: the worst ...what
It wasn't in NY, which explains a lot because we NYers tend to go a little crazy with the weddings, but I went to a 'cocktail hour' where there were little bits of cut-up cheese and some ritz crackers. That's it. Oh, there were 2 kinds of wine, 4 kinds of beer, no actual 'cocktails' though :) What was weird is that I know that the people throwing it had financial resources. My personal feeling is that if you're inviting a lot of people from out of town (which they did and which we are), I have an obligation as the hostess to make it worth the plane ride or a long drive, you know?

But then again, I was 10
Sometimes there are things I would do differently, but they are happy events, & there is food & booze, so its never horrible!

Re: the worst ...what
Well, the thing that comes to mind was not the bride's fault, but at my sister's wedding, her MIL showed up in this slinky white dress with sequins, a high slit up the thigh, and the top was assymetrical (I think that's what they call it when there's fabric on one shoulder but not the other). And it was an afternoon wedding! I was pissed for my sister!

I was at a wedding at Oheka in October or November 2002 (I was a 'and guest'). I ordered filet mignon, the whole table did. Well the whole table's food was ice cold. I don't know if anyone actually told the couple.

Re: the worst ...what
Sorry Hunt Townhouse Brides, but the food was THE WORST FOOD EVER. It tasted like sand. The waiter dropped 4 peoples food so we had to wait while the rest of the table ate. We almost thought they just picked it up off the floor b/c it tasted so sandy, but we saw the food still on the floor when we were served.
ETA: At Atlantica, for the CH there was a raw bar- no cheese, no crackers, no fruit, nothing but shrimp, ostyers and muscles. It was quite odd. THe dinner was good- not the largest portions, but good.

Re: the worst ...what
I went to a late wedding at the Fox Hollow at the food was terrible. I think that it had been prepared and then reheated, B/c usually the food there is really good. No one at our table ate a thing and we were all starving by the time dessert came out. Otherwise I've had all good experiences that I can think of (minus the wedding in the bowling alley - which was still fun...)

Re: the worst ...what
I went to a wedding up state NY and it was for 2 friends of mine who come from families who are very well off. It was at the groom's parent's country club and it was a gorgeous place.
HOWEVER, we all starved ourselves waiting for all the great food and it never came.
The cocktail hour was cut up melon and pigs in a blanket. Now pigs in a blanket are not bad but it was the only option and there were 4 trays for 200 people. That's it. Most of us didn't drink too much because we were waiting to get some food at dinner.
Dinner was a piece of chicked so tiny that I'd really call it a McNugget. Then we found out there was no alcohol at the reception - just for the cocktail hour (ugh - wish we knew)
They had the bride's 19 yr old brother play the music on his guitar rather than hire a band. He had a femal friend who sang every song like she was Pat Benetar (love Pat Benetar but 4 hours worth?). Yes - she has spikey hair and the 80's cuffs on her wrists.
The wedding cake was served and removed while the bride danced with her father (in a room different from the dinner tables) I have to say that having dancing in a room FAR away from where people sit for dinner is not a great idea and the dance floor is rarely packed.
We all went out for pizza later because we were so hungry. Killed me because it cost me about $700 between the gift, flight and hotel and I didn't even get a meal out of it!!!!

Re: the worst ...what
My really good friend's wedding. He is divorced now, but I know that they both saved up for that wedding for 2 years and it SUCKED!
The food was crap. The DJ messed up the names. On some of the tables in the back, the table cloths were too short.
EVERYTHING WAS PURPLE! Our high school color was purple, so I felt like I was back at the prom!
And, they invited this guy that they had tried to set me up with years ago. All he did was stare at me and fi like a psycho!

Re: the worst ...what
My SIL wedding (which was out of state) had the worst meal, no choice, you actually got a little bit of meat & a little bit of chicken, I thought it was horribley tacky. The also did her cake cutting before people were done w/ dinner, so barely anyone saw it(the photographer was at our table & came very, very close to missing it).
My uncle's second wedding ceremony was at the top of lighthouse in Atlantic City & even though it was a cute idea, there were lots of issues. Not everyone could fit up top, so we watched on a screen which was ok, but the officiant had told them he had no problem going to the top when they booked him & the day of went 3 stairs up & said he couldn't make it up because he suffers from vertigo(I suppose he forgot when they booked him). Luckly, the speaker system was 2-way, so he performed the ceremony from downstairs, but it was very strange & he was rushing because he had another ceremony to perform(they ran late, due to him not being able to go up stairs) & so he messed up several parts of the ceremony. I felt really bad for them, really the ceremony is the most imortant part, IMO.

Re: the worst ...what
every wedding I have been to was great... although there were sometimes things there I would have done differently, we all have different tastes and opinions... sometimes I like to go to 'different' kind of weddings to see how people have a wedding outside LI...

Re: the worst ...what
not that anything was bad, but at my cousins wedding, 3/4 of her new husbands' family walked out because they were not allowed to smoke in the hall and I guess walking 15 feet outside to the tent was too much
