Those who've been to Fire Island

Has anyone stayed at a hotel there?
Any one you would recommend that is in a cool area where a group of girls could go out at night and hang at the beach during the day?

I'm looking into planning my friend's BP there.

Re: Those who've been to Fire Island

I think the only town on FI where you are going to find a hotel-type place is Ocean Beach and I don't think there are too many so book soon! That's where you want to be anyway because it has most of the bars and restaurants. I can't recommend a specific one though, but there are many FI sites online that could probably link you to the phone numbers.

Re: Those who've been to Fire Island

I think there is a hotel in Ocean Bay Park that is ok but I don't know the name of it.

My b-party was held in Saltaire. We went to a little bar in the next town (a ten minute walk) but stayed at my friend's house.

Re: Those who've been to Fire Island

I cant remember the name of the hotel in Ocean Bay Park either but wanted to say that I would much rather stay in Ocean Bay Park than Ocean Beach. Ocean Bay Park is a little bit more tailored for upper twenties/ low thirty type of partying where Ocean Beach is teen/early twenty rowdy obnoxious drunk type of a place..Unless that is what you guys are going for. Either way, Ocean Beach and Ocean Bay Park are only about a 7-10 minute walk from each other.
Kismet is another good place to go, its the first town after the light house. It really only has two bars (the In and the Out) but it's definitely a cool chill out type of place. Not sure about hotels though.
If you are going to be at the beach during the day at Ocean Beach please do NOT bring food, they will ticket you! They are very strict about their rules there.

So I found 2 hotels in OBP, one is Fire Island Hotel & Resort and the other is Seashore Condos... do either of those ring a bell??

Re: Those who've been to Fire Island

If OBP is where Flynn's is, then I've stayed at the Fire Island Hotel & (ahem, sorry just choking on the next word ) Resort ... it's a DUMP.

Every year at my job we did a FI day trip in the summer, spent the morning on the beach then lunch/drinks at Flynn's (we'd book the outside deck bar). We'd book a boys room & a girls room to change in at the hotel (we'd also use the pool). The rooms are SMALL, no A/C and one of the last times, had not been cleaned (butts in all the ashtrays, condoms in the garbage).

I've also spent a few nights there and the room we were in had a shower that had been built into what I guess had been the closet (it was a sight to see my 6'5' DH dealing with that).

Re: Those who've been to Fire Island

I had a share house in Ocean Bay Park for a few summers. There are 2 hotels there, but I'd say you are better off staying in Ocean Beach. There are more bars, the shops are there. I've never stayed there, but I remember some people staying at Housers and saying it was fine.
