thoughts of paying vendors beforehand

thoughts of paying vendors beforehand

Our wedding is in 47 days and I am thinking of paying some of our vendors in full at our final meetings. I want to try to minimize the amount of money that we have to deal with on the day of the wedding.

We would pay off the rabbi, the band and hair/makeup person.

What are your thoughts?

Most people would say no b/c then they might not show up but as long as you get a receite saying you paid then I dont see why not. As it is, someone could not show up even if you didnt pay them off so I think you're chances are the same its more convenient then why not?

I say if it makes things easier for you go for it! I might wait with the hair/makeup person just because your not actually at the wedding yet when you use them.

I personally wouldnt. I dont want to take a chance of them not showing. I would put the $ in marked envelopes and give them to a BP member to handle.

We did pay them in full before just so it was out of the way. If you have a contract and receipt, I think it is fine. Plus, most of us are using reputable vendors from this site, so I don't think there is much of a need to worry.

I paid 98% of vendors ahead of time and I regret it to an extent. You wouldn't believe the things that can come up last minute and I found that a few of them weren't so willing to bend or go that extra mile after they were pd in full. Plus if you make any last minute changes that require getting a partial refund. It's not likely to happen w/out a little pulling. All my vendors did show up and did a great job but I would just say choose which ones you want to pay wisely.

We paid all of our vendors in full a couple of months ago... they sent us a receipt of payment... it makes things a lot less hectic - not worrying about $$.

To be honest - it's not worth it to pay them up front.

If you have the $$$ to shell out now - sit down, make the envelopes w/the remaining balances and the gratuities. On the day of, designate someone - DOC, groomsman, etc. to distribute the envelopes.

I cannot stress how many times I've seen vendors slacking off b/c they had absolutely no motivation on the day of, and brides/grooms were simply not happy. It's sad, but it's true.

I had a vendor this weekend who's equipment did not work - so for the ceremony - no music, for the beginning of the CH & Reception - no music. Guess what? - They were paid in full! When it came to the end of the night to request a refund...we were greeted with a look of question...now it's a huge process!!!!

I think it is a good idea but what if a vendor does not do a great job or shows up late and doesn't deserve that tip...that is my only thought. I would rather tip before hand to have one less thing to worry about but some times they might not deserve the tip...

I would not b/c what if you do not get the job you expected? They already have your money and there is nothing you can do then...JMO

I agree with what most are saying ... hold onto the money and give it the night of. Have someone do it for you that you trust. This way you have control over the situation a little more, and especially over the tips.

I paid my vendors before hand because I don't want to deal with anyone carrying that amount of cash around to pay them - Many vendors require full payment before the actualy weding.

Did you pay off the dj/band, the florist, photog?
These are big $$ that you can easily pay off before.

Unless you have to...DONT. Its not really a matter of them showing up or not, its more of the quality of work they'll do for you once their paid.

Certain vendors we didnt pay until the day of-just be sure that all was in order that day.

Rabbi Im sure you can pay before hand.
MU I would wait/hair I would wait also

But its really your personal choice. If you dont want to worry about paying out the day of why not assign that job to someone else, your mom or dad or FHs mom or dad? It takes the responsibility off of you

I definitely would NOT do that....Just too risky. Instead give it to your dad or FH's dad (or another family member you trust) to handle...You won't even know it is happening that day!

I paid for the florist, limo, and hall before the wedding. They all required us to.

The photographer, DJ, and makeup.hair were paid the day of the wedding.

To be honest, I would not be nervous about paying them beforehand as long as they are reputable businesses. Get a receipt. If they do not come, it will be more trouble then it is worth for them. Get receipts for everything!!!

I would say its better to pay the day off. My husband had an envelope for all of the people that needed to be paid the day of the wedding. His best man distributed all of the $ as the day went on and we didn't even think about it.

i was actually told by my vendors not too.....They personally said that God forbid anything happens, they didn't want us to be out of cash. I'd wait untill the day of(or atleast the week before). Good Luck!

Re: thoughts of paying vendors beforehand

ps: u're right when u say YOU shouldn't be the ones worry about paying vendors on ur wedding day. We labeled envelopes & had the best man take care of everything....it was great not having to worry about a thing!
