Hi! My FI and I have to make our final decision by Wednesday morning and it is a doosie. We've been trying to decide between Watermill in Smithtown and the Estate at East Wind... (http://www.liweddings.com/chat/topic.aspx?ID=507341&Reload=11050) ... and it is SUCH a tough choice!!! We even went back to see both of them again yesterday, which unfortunately didn't make the decision any easier! I've heard great things about both, and each one has its pros and cons. Believe it or not even though the decor is different at each place, I still love both. I think the decision right now will come down to date options. EW has Saturday 5/23/09 available which is the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, and we both have a ton of guests coming from out of town. Watermill has Saturday 5/30/09 (the weekend after MDW) available.
How do guests feel about holiday weekend weddings? Good? Bad? I need help!! :)

Re: Thoughts on a Memorial Day Weekend Wedding?
We got married the Saturday of Memorial Day last year. We wanted a May wedding and that was the only date available. We talked about it and decided that our immediate families don't go away for that weekend so we'd take it. Anyone else that have plans for that weekend can decide if they want to attend. Also, we gave out STD magnets at our engagement party (1 year and 2 months in advance).

Re: Thoughts on a Memorial Day Weekend Wedding?
We sent out STDs almost a year and a half in advance, so people had plenty of notice. We liked the idea of getting married on a Sunday night when most people had the next day off, and so did the guests.
My parents got married Father's Day weekend, friends got married July 4th weekend, and we'll share an anniversary with two couples on FH's side. Lol, holiday weekend weddings aren't a problem with this crowd!

I am having a memorial day wedding... though there are a few people that I wish were able to go but couldnt.... its nice because we will always have that weekend off together from our jobs... and we can have a sunday wedding for sunday prices, and everyone can still have the next day off after our wedding. Good luck!

i'm getting married on 5/23/09 over at Vineyard Caterers. Not far, our parties should meet up afterwards anyway, i'm really excited about our holiday weekend wedding because of all the time the OOTers have to recoup. Also, we're going to have wedding weekend events!

Re: Thoughts on a Memorial Day Weekend Wedding?
My wedding was friday of Memorial Day and our guests ALL loved it! They thought it was great that their weekend was longer so they werent so rushed in leaving and getting home. I know people do go away for this weekend-but we did NOT sent save the dates out and everyone we thought was coming came

Re: Thoughts on a Memorial Day Weekend Wedding?
Im a memorial day weekend bride as well! We honestly didn't even know that when we booked the date haha BUT we are sending out our save the date cards earlier and our invitations earlier-but we haven't heard any complaints from anyone. We're also having an early ceremony and reception so guests get to have saturday night and the rest of the weekend to enjoy themselves
OHHH YEAH we'll have a big bash after our receptions-just meet up in our dresses and go parading around how funny would that look haha
