Time for LIW brides to be honest

Time for LIW brides to be honest

I consider myself to have formed an online realtionship with many of you

With that said....
Is it me or has anyone else noticed that its the weddings that spent $$$$$ that get considered to be the best wedding ever but the ones that did not cost as much $$ or at lesser known places dont get the same raves.

This is not a personal attack or anything...just an observation, not only from myself but from other members who some of us havent even realized are not posting as frequently anymore...

I really htink that its time we all realize that its not the place, the flowers or anything like that that make a wedding beautiful. When u look at the pictures..are the guests smiling or is it just a pretty room...seriously...what do you think makes a wedding beautiful?

P>S I am not trying to start an argument or anything..just curious...I have gotten alot of FMS and just wanted to feel out some of my fellow brides & B2B's!

I think what makes a beautiful wedding is the actual couple and the emotions they show/Express that day. And the love between them.
That being said if you arent actually at the wedding or dont know the people who are getting married that well you can only 'judge' the wedding by other things.
I agree with you to an extent...

I think that seeing those 2 people getting married and being in love is what makes a wedding beautiful.

i think that my wedding was beautiful because everyone there had a great time. it was the band that set the mood and we had a pretty inexpensive band!
Although, I was at a wedding recently where they tried to cut costs, and it drastically changed the atmosphere of the event....but I'd estimate they spent about $2000 total on the whole wenning, dress and rings included....and they cut out some really important things in the process (like a wait staff to clear dishes and serve food)
I know my wedding was not the most expensive one to have ever been thrown (also, not the cheapest though), but it wasn't the money that made it great - it was the feeling that day

so i agree with you a lot!

What do I think makes a wedding beautiful...

That would be the huge expression of love and commitment that you, your family and friends are there to celebrate.

Please (everyone) don't group me in the expensive category.... the only reason why I am having my wedding at Carlyle is because my father who passed away in May 2003 has his ashes scattered at the Blue course at Bethpage.

That's it... otherwise it would be a justic of the peace on a tropic beach somewhere. I so did not want this big wedding... but I DO want my dad to be a part of it.

Myasmom, were you smiling on your wedding day?? Of course you were... that makes it a hit in my book.

Myasmom.....You said it girl!!! It's all about the name but it always will be and always has been. Not only about weddings though...with everything in life.

I have to say, my hall is not the most elaborate, expensive or most beautiful hall. In fact, if you go back and do a search on it, tons of posts have called it a number of things. Does not matter to me. I love my hall, I love my ideas and I love my FH!! That is what matters to me. I love the idea that in 423 I will be married!!! I guess I am one of the lucky ones that has the state of mind that if there is no need to go into the hole for things....I just rather not.
I use those Master Card Commercials as a theory for my wedding....

Ceremony....500 dollars
Reception......10K
Honeymoon.....6K
Marrying my hero, the man of my dreams.....PRICELESS!!!

I truly mean that!!! Hope that is some inspiration to all!!!

By the way....Myasmom...if you are worried that your wedding didn't meet the 'top shelf' criteria...I gotta tell you....the smiles in those pictures....took my breath away...TRULY!! That is what mattters...you, your DH and your guests smiled....and it just showed what a wonderful wedding you had!!!

The end result regardless if you have it in a yard, a fancy hall, flowers, fake flowers, etc is that you will be married and become husband and wife. That in itself makes any and every wedding beautiful and special. I feel people get so preoccupied in all the planning they forget what the wedding is all about.

In the planning phase I went through that and after the wedding there was a twinge of 'was it truely as great as they said...especially when compared to Beth (who i do think had an amazing wedding..but never once put down anyone elses) but no one can ever make me doubt my wedding was beautiful NOW.
I spent 15K for 130 guests which is darn good And 122 of my guest stayed till the last song was played lol so how can I doubt that it was a success even with the DJ hiccup

I agree with you 100%. I don't think the $ spent can make anyone's wedding. Your wedding was great and for 15K....girl....you did a wonderful job!!

Did you get my FM?

I want all my friends and family to be safely and healthily at my wedding...Yes, I'll be pissed if I break a nail or if my hair falls down...But I do truly try to look at the bigger picture and what it really all means...

I will be honest with you, I never really wanted a fancy wedding, I dont like to be the center of attention.. we actually have been married for almost 4 years (civil ceremony)... the only reason why we will be having the church and the reception is that I am afraid that one day we will regret not having that special day, not having the pictures etc... we dont have much money to spend but as long both of us are happy and have a great time thats all that matters...

I know we say a lot of things and maybe we dont even realize that we might be hurting someone's feelings I think all of us expect different things and we like different things... and from experience we know that you wont make everyone happy so make the day special for yourself, thats the most important thing

Re: Time for LIW brides to be honest

Even though my wedding was small by some standards, a little over 100, and the place was a place no one has really heard of, I have to be honest in saying that my day could not have been more perfect and I could not have been more happy.
I also am of the belief that the day is about the marriage, the joining of 2 people who love each other, not about what DJ or Florist, or Photographer, or any thing else for that matter. I'm sure a lot of people will take this wrong but its only my opinion.

What makes a wedding beautiful?

That depends on who you ask. There are a million different answers. Yes, the love between the bride and the groom is the most important thing - for the bride and groom. I think that in all fairness for everyone else looking at a particular wedding it's a matter of the details.

I think after all of our planning we can appreciate the hard work and thoughtfulness that goes into ANY wedding. Without speaking for anyone - but myself - I must say that yes - I oohh and aahh over pictures regardless of where it was held or how expensive or inexpensive it may seem. I would NEVER judge a wedding based on my PERCEIVED notion of what they spent. Every bride is beautiful and every wedding is special and unique. I just want to see details...no matter how big or small.

Myasmom- I am shocked by your lovely post about my wedding. You are too kind and I love that such a genuine person could comment that way about me
When I read your reply I was so touched, I can not thank you enough... I dont even know what to say......

but in ans. to your thread- I do notice that, but I think a LOT of it has to do with the fact that for some reason people that spend a lot of money on their weddings WON'T POST THEM! Its drives me crazy! During planning, I had an impossible time finding pictures from Oheka weddings on any websites! The same goes for Carltun and all the other 'upscale'/expensive places. So I think when I posted and when others who spend a lot actually post their weddings it gets more attention since people aren't used to seeing them. From here I can go into my whole rant about Oheka brides and who they think they are just because they spend money but I will spare you the vent....

When I comment on a beautiful wedding, like yours, it's because I see real love between the couple and family members. THAT is a beautiful wedding and I can only hope that was expressed in mine.

Re: Time for LIW brides to be honest

I have to be honest, I went to a wedding where a couple hired a private yacht to go aroung NYC. This wedding cost 60,000.00 and it was one of the worst weddings I have ever been to. It looked as if it was more for show than love. Yet, I have been to weddings where everything was literally done in a little restaurant (about 40 people) and everyone (especially the couple) was having a great time and that made the wedding and we all still talk about how nice that was. I agree its not the place or things that make a wedding its the people.
