Time for LIW brides to be honest

Original post by myasmom

I consider myself to have formed an online realtionship with many of you

With that said....
Is it me or has anyone else noticed that its the weddings that spent $$$$$ that get considered to be the best wedding ever but the ones that did not cost as much $$ or at lesser known places dont get the same raves.

This is not a personal attack or anything...just an observation, not only from myself but from other members who some of us havent even realized are not posting as frequently anymore...

I really htink that its time we all realize that its not the place, the flowers or anything like that that make a wedding beautiful. When u look at the pictures..are the guests smiling or is it just a pretty room...seriously...what do you think makes a wedding beautiful?

P>S I am not trying to start an argument or anything..just curious...I have gotten alot of FMS and just wanted to feel out some of my fellow brides & B2B's!

Re: Time for LIW brides to be honest

I think its all about the couple and their planning. And I think its all realtive. Remember, sometimes the brides are spending more money on their wedding because they have large families, large guest lists, etc.

My wedding is someplace that most people have never heard of. We're paying what I feel is an average price for a Saturday twilight/night affair. What's pushing our budget so much higher is our guest list. FH has a large Irish family. And when you have 175 - 200 guests, that impacts not only the cost of the caterring hall, but also how many invitations, favors and thank you cards.

The most important thing is that you plan your wedding for what YOU want it to be and you make the most if it. No matter what the cost. Like you said, when people look at pictures, its all about the people...the bride's beautiful, the groom is handsome, and everyone looks happy. The scenery is just an added bonus.

I also don't think people remember the food all that much either. They'll remember a general opinion of good or bad, but not specifics. Where as I think flowers and music, are more memorable for peoplet

Everyone chooses their priorities!

Just my 2 cents!

I think weddings are beautiful when everyone is happy to be celebrating with the bride and groom, but from a purely aesthetic viewpoint, almost every girl dreams of a fairytale wedding in a beautiful place and when someone else actually achieves that dream, we all ooooo and ahhhhh.

No one's wedding is 'better' than the other, but some of them just remind us our girlhood dream and we have to acknowledge and congratulate the girl who got it!

I ohhhhh and ahhhhh with the best of them lol BUT never put down what someone else did or chose....

I am glad I said what I did..I got tons of FMs from other brides who shall remain nameless and am glad I am not alone. I was scared there would be pitchfork and flames lol!

I think all weddings are beautiful simply because of what they symbolize, two people in love pledging their lives to eachother, how can that not be beautiful? I think the 'more expensive' weddings get more attention on the boards simply because they are often more elaborate, more fairy-tale like and therefore more fun to look at!

I think we are all adults here and should be able to discuss different things without fighting... maybe all of us should try and be more sensitive to others' feelings, I know I will try... I think it was a great thread to start

Re: Time for LIW brides to be honest

So basically then..what is the point of posting a review if the wedding is not elaborate..part of the fun is sharing your moments and it is hurtful when thats not done.

And no i actually had almost 80+ responses so i am not the example but I simply feel that we should support each other regardless. Like you do EvenEdan..thats waht I am talking about...not everyone responds genereally. And no I dont want to control the computers lol..I just meant that it can be hurtful and has been for some...

Someone else was it Charlotte who bought this up before?

I honestly am a big mush and just want us all to feel happy about our choices and all I know is that ALOT of brides are not feeling that way..so I merely wanted to bring it to OUR attention. S o now we can all get along lol.

I'm so confused!!!! Do you mean people have been saying bad things about weddings where not a lot of money has been spent? I've never seen that on here. I feel ike I'm missing something, but then again, I am clueless! (Ouch, that was bad).

but in ans. to your thread- I do notice that, but I think a LOT of it has to do with the fact that for some reason people that spend a lot of money on their weddings WON'T POST THEM! Its drives me crazy! During planning, I had an impossible time finding pictures from Oheka weddings on any websites! The same goes for Carltun and all the other 'upscale'/expensive places. So I think when I posted and when others who spend a lot actually post their weddings it gets more attention since people aren't used to seeing them. From here I can go into my whole rant about Oheka brides and who they think they are just because they spend money but I will spare you the vent....

I sort of agree with the first part of this to a certain extent. People who spend a lot on their weddings don't really post them. (sidenote: I LOVED your wedding Bethsiar and it was a pleasure to look at)

But I disagree about the speculation why people wont post their weddings here. Sometimes people who spend a lot of money on their wedding feel uncomfortable posting pics, right or wrong, because they don't want to feel like a heel 'bragging' about their wedding. I know I go through great pains to live life on the downlow and don't want anyone to look at my wedding and see the dollar and cents. I want them to see the love between DH and I. We were lucky- we had both sets of parents really helping out with the wedding and we know this was just that- luck.

Also, there is a common misconception out there that those who spend a lot of money on their weddings are missing the big picture about what the wedding is truly about and are spoiled and stuff like that. (not necc on LIWeddings, but in general). We did spend a lot on our wedding (I will confess) but I don't want anyone ever thinking- this girl was too into the money and the details.

I'm rambling, but does that make sense?

I guess I'm missing something, because I don't see the point behind this thread. Are people poking fun at other brides? Are people envious of those who spend more money on their weddings? What is the point?

I think all weddings are beautiful, whether there are 6 people there or 600. I am getting married one time, and i want it to be amazing for me. I wanted to have our dream wedding, with our very special friends and family and that is what we're having.. I think that the place whether small and intimate or large and extravagant, something had to appeal to you, or you wouldn't have chose it. The money you spend is on you, but you can have a wedding for little money or a lot of money, but it's all about the couple and the bonding of the couple and families.. i don't think money really has anything to do with it.. as long as everyone has fun

I'm sort of there with cluelessbride...um...feeling a little clueless as far as who is saying what...but I also agree with Crystal in that, I think ALL weddings are beautiful. I don't think there is necessarily a direct relationship between the amt of $$$$$ spent on the wedding and how beautiful it was. I also think we need to stop comparing ourselves to others so much (I'm guilty of this too!) ... every bride should happily say 'MY wedding was the best wedding I've ever been to'.... because that's just the way it is.

This is exactly how I feel!! Thank you for posting that!!

My Dh and I were extremely fortunate to have a very beautiful expensive wedding. I just don't feel comfortable posting our pictures. I feel our wedding may seen as an elaborate and fancy wedding instead of the celebration of our love and future together.

I think this thread is about the fact the 'expensive' wedding reviews may get 800 (I'm making up a number) responses while reviews about other weddings don't get as many.

(With absolutely no offense to you)...So what? Whoever feels the need to point that out sounds really trivial and a bit covetous.

A wedding and reception is purely for the celebration of two people in love joining together for life. Now I considered myself a spoiled person but NOT with material things but love from my friends, family and of course, my FI. I personally havent noticed a preference of compliments towards a certain place. I mean, Beth's wedding was amazing and from talking to her I have noticed how nice she is and she deserves the best. Of course people are going to comment on her beautiful wedding... thats why I watch MTV Cribs, ya know?

Donna

thats one aspect to it..I was just trying to get opinions..but instead it is turning into something bigger?

Lets just forget about it.

I was not rying to start an argument..just get opinions.
And some people feel that if their wedding is not as elaborate..it does not get that much attention..And that is not my personal expereince but I have seen it and I KNOW I am not the only one..so I am just curious as to what people felt a good wedding is comprised of..

And clearly word speak for themselves to see who starts bashing Enjoy planning ladies :

P.S Jordan here is my original post..and I take no offense to anything anyone said..my day is over and done with..I already know how my fairytale ends
