Time for LIW brides to be honest

Original post by myasmom

I consider myself to have formed an online realtionship with many of you

With that said....
Is it me or has anyone else noticed that its the weddings that spent $$$$$ that get considered to be the best wedding ever but the ones that did not cost as much $$ or at lesser known places dont get the same raves.

This is not a personal attack or anything...just an observation, not only from myself but from other members who some of us havent even realized are not posting as frequently anymore...

I really htink that its time we all realize that its not the place, the flowers or anything like that that make a wedding beautiful. When u look at the pictures..are the guests smiling or is it just a pretty room...seriously...what do you think makes a wedding beautiful?

P>S I am not trying to start an argument or anything..just curious...I have gotten alot of FMS and just wanted to feel out some of my fellow brides & B2B's!

i agree...
with all honesty we love our hall, it was actually one of the cheapest halls availible and we did not care for the outside of it(we actually almost left before walking in the day we checked it out). But we LOVED the inside which is where the guests will be, and decided to spend $$ on furnature instead of a more $$$ place.

the things that will be remembered are the guests smiling, the happy couple... that is why i decided to splurge a little on photo and video, because that is the only thing that will be there for years to come after my wedding which lasts less than 24 hours

I notice that, but I think a LOT of it has to do with the fact that for some reason people that spend a lot of money on their weddings WON'T POST THEM! Its drives me crazy! During planning, I had an impossible time finding pictures from Oheka weddings on any websites! The same goes for Carltun and all the other 'upscale'/expensive places. So I think when I posted and when others who spend a lot actually post their weddings it gets more attention since people aren't used to seeing them. From here I can go into my whole rant about Oheka brides and who they think they are just because they spend money but I will spare you that .........

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am guilty of the above, and would like to share the reasons why I did not post a review or post any pictures....
Sometimes in the past, when a negative review is given on a vendor, other brides who liked that vendor would come to their defense, and ultimately the bride ends up having to try and defend her experience with that vendor, and the thread would turn ugly that it ultimately got deleted by LIW.
Secondly, I did not want to defend the vendors I used, why I chose to get married at an expensive place, or the amount of money spent on vendors and the wedding.
I felt if I post a review and pictures, some people would feel like I was bragging/showing off. It's a shame because I chose a themed wedding and I got of great help, information and suggestions from girls on this board. I planned my wedding in just about 8 months and because of those girl's help, I was albe to find and have the personal details I wanted for my wedding. There are hundreds and thousands of weddings that take place in the same hall, but it's the individual personal touches that make it special and memorable for each bride.
Because of the above, I did not post a review or any pictures.......I would have loved to have shared my day with all the girls who helped me with the planning along the way, and share my ideas and projects I made with future brides. But because of the reasons above, I chose not to post. Instead, if I have something to offer a bride, I will FM them directly, and only post only if I have information share.

I just wanted to give a different point of view...
Yes, I was very fortunate to get married at Oheka, but I did have to make a few compromises.....No children at the reception, I had to stick to a minimum number, 'No Honeymoon'..... Ultimately....DH and I made the decision that by getting married there, we would receive less than half of the cost of the wedding. But, that was our decision to make.

I think it all comes down to the each couples priorities and financial status at their time of marriage. We had been together as a couple for 18 years, we already owned a house, and had established our business.... Where as other couples, are just starting out together and they chose to have a less expensive wedding, and put the money towards a deposit on a home. Other are fortunate who's families are able to pay for their wedding.....
No matter which type of budget wedding a bride chooses, expensive or inexpensive, it seems sometimes brides feel they have to defend it or justify it.... In the end what makes a wedding special and memorable, is the love, family and friends who come to witness the marriage. And what makes it memoral are the personal touches each couple makes for their wedding day.

I hope I did not offend or mean to give a speech or give a sermon....just wanted to give a different point of view from a past bride.... If I offended anyone please feel free to FM me....

Peace and Love to All :hug

Since we talk about almost everything here I bought it up..not expecting this response. But rather as awareness..I never was scolding..negativity is not something I do in my everyday llife with people I actually 'know' so why do it'online'.

Alot of people assume that this site is enjoyable for the majority..which is is..but like reality..there are those who dont walk away with such a positive view and still are here trying to find the 'good' lol I did not enjoy this thread at all..just hoped to get information so that others would feel encourgaged and not intimidated. Which is proably what happended now.

Mya~
We all talk to bunches of girls on here..I have my gals that i vent to and am honest with...BUT i don't go an post things that we discuss privately. And if i did that would be just as silly as this post...
To the people that do not find this site enjoyable or helpful...LEAVE! This isn't the only website in the computer world..Someone should not have to find the 'Good'.

Exactly what information did you hope to get?
People agreeing with you???? People to stand up with you??? And if honesty was what you sought then honesty is what you got....

On some level...i think posting this was great, i am glad you felt you could be honest. BUT if this post was supposed to give girls courage to speak...you also offended some...
Not the best way to convey a message

Aghh who is scolding whom.
I give up.

As I said B4 if I offended anyone I apologize.

And not to be mean..yes the post accomplished everything that needed to be.. And thats up to anyones interpretation but wont be my explaination

And I did not break anyones trust or anything the like..just pointed out My opinion which everyone else has been doing so I dont see where I am wrong. And please someone tell me where I ever blatetly came out and said someone had done some thing worng.. I never did that .. i said that some people are taking things a certain way..now that is not speculation but a fact..

If you want to talk about worng and offense..I take offense to people trying to speak for me and 'say' what they think I want to say..or taking words and trunig them into negativity..now I take offense to that..So there..everybody got offended so lets move on caus eI am stubborn and I know i will keep responding lol

When I comment on a beautiful wedding, like yours, it's because I see real love between the couple and family members. THAT is a beautiful wedding and I can only hope that was expressed in mine.

Totally agree!! The best wedding I ever went to was the best because the love between the bride and groom was so obvious and touching. Another thing that is so important is that the bride must be happy. I went to a wedding once where the bride had such a puss on that it made everyone uncomfortable. I don't think the money matters. It's about the emotion.

Everyone is entitled to thier own opinion so let me speell it out for those who were unsure.

The post was initially intended to do the following..

In a nice way let our board know that some people did not post pics or share reviews because they did feel that having a less $$ wedding did not get as many reviews or would not be accepted...why bother.

..

I think the part about people not posting b/c they felt their less $$$ wedding would not be accepted - it came out like we were being scolded. I think you had good intentions, but really, at least to me, it sounded like you wanted to teach some of us a lesson in what makes a wedding beautiful. We know what makes a wedding beautiful. If people feel insecure about posting their reviews, there is really nothing anyone here can do for them.

I don't know...I have posted when I got a great deal on something--my two pairs of $10 gorgeous Jim Hjelm wedding shoes last week, my $7 tiara...And got as many posts saying way to go finding a deal, which store....Maybe it isn't swarovski crystals, but I don't know why anyone would feel embarassed or ashamed...If they are insecure, that comes from within, and I don't know why anyone would care so much about acceptance or approval from many people they have never met. I am so happy to have met some great friends on here who will be coming to my wedding.

I need to lose weight, I'm broke, my family is crazy, but I will still have the best wedding ever - To me that is! Because I'm marrying my best friend and that's all that matters!

Wow.....an LI bride who is not perfect?
Thanks for that Cluelessbride...it made me smile on a thread that was definitely frown worthy!

Myasmom---I will admit I didn't clearly understand your original post. But, I also know you are a very good-hearted person, and only had the best intentions!
For, the record I do not think hug smiley is gay! I think he is CUTE!

I am a little confused as to why others can be that offened though. How can you feel offended through faceless communication on the internet?? It is fun chatting and sharing with the LIWedding girls---but I do not hold any of them in that high of a regard (except for the ones I know in real life) that I would be truly upset over something they would say.

Re: Time for LIW brides to be honest

It is funny that you bring this up. My DH and I have been married for almost 3 years. He comes from a fairly well to do family and well, to be quite honest, I was very poor growing up. When we got engaged I think my mother almost had a heart attack because she wanted me to have a beautiful wedding but we couldn't afford much. In the mean time, my father gets very sick during the beginning stages of planning. We picked Douglaston Manor because it was handicapped accesible. This was important because by this time my father was in a wheel chair. I also fell in love with Thomas the banquet manager who was basically willing to do anything for me when he heard about my father. In the mean time, about 6 months before my wedding, my father passed away. My in-laws offered to pay for everything and even change the date, location, anything I wanted.

I told them thank you, but no thank you. Our wedding was gorgeous, we were (are) so very happy. The place fit us perfectly, and no amount of money could ever replace that day, those feelings.

That is what makes a marriage. That is what makes the day special. I have a good friend that is getting divorced after 3 years and a 100,000 wedding that wasn't even them. I spent 35,000. I feel good......

100,000, wow that's sure a lot

Re: Time for LIW brides to be honest

for everyone.

I did get hurt a little bit and I know others did too but I am not a malicious person and I AM BIG ENOUGH TO APOLOGISE AND I COMMEND the Apologies I received..I send them right back.

That is the price we pay for communication on the internet..we never know what a persons intentions are. Some were good and some were bad BUt Mine were meant to be good.

I know that you did not mean this to be mean and had good intentions, but at the other side of the spectrum, I sometimes feel like people justify their less expensive weddings over the more expensive ones and kind of hint that because someone had an expensive wedding they are more likely to get divorced or miss the meaning of the wedding. There is really no correlation there. There are people out there who have lavish weddings and their marriages last and are wonderful.
The world is not perfect and equal and we learn this lesson time and time again in life. You don't have to look far to see someone who has a larger bank account, someone whose parents bought them a house while others are eating ramen noodles to save money, someone who has a free ride in college while others are paying off debts. The point is- and many here have touched on it- there could be the most wonderful weddings for many price ranges.
OK,that was my .02. I promise, I am done!
