Re: TIP for chocolate fountain?
Well I think you only tip if it is an outside vendor. I don't think you need to do this if your hall is providing the fountain. My contract recommended tipping 15%.

Re: TIP for chocolate fountain?
Yes, it is an outside vendor who is coming an hour early to set-up and will be there for the last hour of my reception so YES he does deserve a TIP!! Good service and hard work deserves a TIP

Re: TIP for chocolate fountain?
Honestly...I wouldn't tip...outside or inside vendor!THE MARKUP alone is absolutely ABSURD!
a full size chocolate fountain costs almost about 2K ..... yes....2K...I've researched this b/c my friend owns one of those party supply stores that rents that kind of stuff out....
Now...let's say you charge $600 - $800 per rental....they obviously make their money back on the actual fountain with three events.
Cost of chocolate chips that get melted or actualy chocolate liquid...NOT EXPENSIVE at all....and they're obviously not using Godiva or Leonida's.
USA is absolutely RIDICULOUS with tipping! It's not done anywhere else in the WORLD like the US does!
My friend was in from Scottland this weekend and didn't understand why I gave the gas attendant a $1 tip....
I've worked as a waitress...got paid $2.10 per hour, and took my tips....but if we were paid by the hour at minimum wage or higher, people wouldn't be tipping....
I'm sorry...a line needs to be DRAWN somewhere!
Sorry for the rant! I'm ready for the oppositions now!

All the original poster did was ask a simple question - what should she tip? I don't think she should be made to feel bad about the fact that she wants to tip someone that is providing a service at her wedding. Isn't that up to her?
I say 15 - 18%.

My post was of a rant of my own accord...sorry to hijack and I honestly didn't mean to offend the original poster in no means at all...it was more of a SHOCK value of having to tip yet another person.

Re: TIP for chocolate fountain?
Christine you be-otch! Not tipping
What are you gonna do when the weddings over? You'll be filled with all kinds of (then) useless wedding info...write a 'how to' book
I would tip because 9/10 times its not the guys machine! He's just a worker, but the tip wouldn't be WOW outrageous.

I need a list of exactly who needs to be tipped! I'm going to have to add an extra 10K to the budget!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will you be my co-writer with the how-to book?

Re: TIP for chocolate fountain?
Only if you can get Nelson to come do our hair&make-up at the book signing!!!
Seriously though,I was in Europe this past summer and left the waiter a tip..he kept trying to return it to me and looked at me like I had three heads... Christine's right, this is only done in the US. WE HAVE gone overboard!

Re: TIP for chocolate fountain?
We had a chocolate fountain at my sisters sweet 16 and honestly the chochlate fountain attendant shouldnt have gotten a tip she did nothing - she didnt clean up the area, the sticks where messy and she jsut flirted with the Djs. I would say it should depend on service. They usually just stand there.
