i have been reading a lot on tipping lately on these boards and i have also been going over my budget and going over tipping. when all is said and done i will need like $400 for tipping.
i can understand tipping people in the restaurant part, as they dont get a decent minimum wage (like $3 an hour).
i also understand tipping delivery people.
but come on, why do DJs and limo drivers and band members and this person and that person need tips? dont they get a wage, that is well above the minimum wage?

sigh, i agree with you...it gets out of hand. people expect tips these days which is obsurd...a tip is voluntary for a job well done to show monetary gratitude.

I TOTALLY AGREE!!! It stinks bc they 'expect' a tip...a person should never 'expect' a tip..they should do their job the right way...regardless!

My RH told me that for the Maitre'd its expected to give $3.00-$5.00 a head.....which is still a lton of money IMO.......I just have no clue!!!!!! Im starting to stress over the whole wedding planning anyways.

The only people I think we are tipping are the Matre D and the bridal assisant. I am sorry but the photographer and Video no thanks I dont get it!!

I agree with you totally, but trust me, if you are tipping out only $400, consider yourself lucky. I ended up handing out $1400 at the end of our night......makes me sick to even think about it.

so if a maitre'd did 6 weddings a weekend, each at 200 people, they NEED 6000 each weekend to make up for what the hall pays them????
(200 x 5/head= 1000 x 6 weddings....fri-sat-sun, a morning and evening wedding each day)
time to call john stossell over at abc and ask him to do a piece on this!!!

My maitre'd told us $5-7 a person. I told him he was out of his mind....that would have come to $900. So we gave $700. It's ridiculous, absolute robbery.

ok seriously, i'm in the wrong business...i just did the math...let's just assume a MD does 6 weddings a weekend for a whole year and was tipped 5/head for all of them and let's just assume they were all 200 people....
this clown would be making 298,000 in tips alone!!!!!!!

The $3 per person was already added in my contract for the maitre d so I had no choice.

I don't get why the maitre'd gets more money. When we went to book our hall, we were told $115 a plate. BUT.....and it's a big but........that does not include 'tax and gratuity' which kicked it up to $143. So now you tell me, WHY THE H** DO I HAVE TO GIVE THIS GUY MORE MONEY???????????

Hey I'm with you, some our vendors wrote what was the 'AVERAGE' expected tip on our final bills and well let me just say that this pissed me off so much that they were lucky if I even gave them half of what their so called average was. I'm sure some of them were less than thrilled but their average was unbelievable.
