To Video or Not to Video?

To Video or Not to Video?

Just curious to hear people's opinions....

My fiance and I are paying for the wedding ourselves so needless to say we are on a bit of a budget! ;) What are people's opinion on having a video done? We are thinking of NOT doing it because from what we've seen they are almost $2,000 or more and we coud definitely use the money for other things.

Is anyone NOT doing a video? Why? or WHY are you doing a video?

I really didn't think a video was necessary, but after some convincing from my FI, I ent with it. It's something that we can ALWAYS look back on, and a treasure our children will have as well. To him a video was priceless, I now agree with him. Good Luck in making your decision.

I suggest that you at least go meet with a vendor and see a sample and see how you feel. Sometimes the clips on the website doesn't do it justice. I went to a videographer and I was crying the video was amazing. It is a lot to spend on a video but you will be able to show it to your kids and have it forever. I am a believer in spending on things that last after your wedding. Maybe you could cut costs somewhere else like flowers or dress.

Good Luck!

I'm having the same dilemma. But I think we are now leaning towards having one. FFIL made a good point that it is a good documentation of the day, plus there will be many people on there that won't be around anymore and it will be a good memory of them to have.

Well said There's just some things that are worth splurging on for the wedding and IMO the video is one of them. This is somethng that you'll be able to show to your kids and grandkids one day and as great as pictures are they can't make you relive your special day like a video. Whenever you're feeling nostalgic you could pop your video in and see yourself walking down the aisle, dancing your first dance etc. If i were you i would go check some out and see how I feel after

I agree with everyone go and check out some vendors. After the day is over and all the money is spent you only have your video and photos left. Go look at Wild Rose their base package starts at $2000, but it includes alot and there videos are soooo amazing. They are really nice. If you want info FM me

I would venture to say that more people regret not getting video than getting it.

I believe that it's a must. There are videographers that are under $2000. You may not need fancy editing, just capture the day.

I agree. We are having a video. Wouldn't dream of not having one.

A video is a good memory, there is so much going on, on you're day that you may miss certains things, that the video captures. You can pop in the video and capture the entire day.

I think you should get video since the day goes by so fast you dont want to miss it. Most of the 05 brides that didnt get it say they regret it. Most vendors that offer photo and video only charge 1000 for the video since the service is combined.

The biggest regret that the 05 brides mentioned was not getting a video. You can get an unedited video for much cheaper. I decided to go for it since they said this was there biggest regret.

I am doing a video. I think it is a great way to capture the day rather than just pictures.

i agree with everyone - and i suggest that you get a video.

Another option is - is anyone of your relatives or freinds attending the party willing to make you a video? If there is, and that person is good, then you will have a video, and save the $$.

Alot of 05 brides who did not get video are regrettting it- They have a thread on the 06 board (05ers give 06ers advice) and alot of them said that they wish they had a videographer there to cpature the big day. I would highly recommend Ray from Timeless Treasures hes very reasonably priced and includes basically everything in the video!! good luck!!

To me a video is a must, no questions asked, like photography is.
At least have somebody stand with a camcorder and record the ceremony and the important parts of the reception (cake cutting, toasts, etc).

My FH doesn't get why a video is so important, but to me, while photos are great, they only capture still frames. A video captures moments - the tears your mom cries, the quiver in your voice as you say your vows, the laughter at your best man's toast - all of those amazing things that you might not notice in the moment, but that later on will be so meaningful to you.

And a lot of people say they won't watch it, and certainly you won't regularly, but every once in a while, you just might. And there will be people who can't make it to the wedding who wanted to be there who would love to see it and feel like they were at least in some way a part of your day.

Best of luck finding a good price. I totally understand the need to cut costs - I just don't think that the video is the thing to cut, at least not to me.

Definitely video!!! Even if it is just raw footage, something to remember the day and see parts you missed (e.g. people walking down the aisle before YOU!!!)

I agree totally . Also there is going to be so much going on that you will miss otherwise. That could be something that your kids and their kids watch later on. These are the resons that made us get video.

Re: To Video or Not to Video?

at first i was dead set against getting a video..i couldn't see us spending the extra money on something that i thought was going to be cheesy and that i just wasn't going to watch...but then i saw a lot of the 05 brides posting that they regretted not getting a video and saying that while photos are great, its going to be harder and harder to really relive the day in your mind as you get older and then another bride who had gotten a video who had children said that it was her kids favorite thing to watch...i knew i wanted a video..so we started looking into videographers and we booked wild rose...they're pricey but like photos its an investment piece...

if you want someone who isn't pricey but gives you a lot for your money you might want to look into Ray from Timeless Treasures..

I agree with this. I went with Ray and his base package is much lower than 2K and his work made me tear up when everyone else I looked at bored me. You get so much for the price. Several edited DVDs, 1 raw footage DVD, full day coverage, etc. timeless
