FMIL (who's i might add is not contributing much to the wedding) declares that we are spending WAY too much for our RH....our wedding would've been perfectly fine if we had it at the community rec center like she suggested

FH tells his mother that FFIL needs to get fitted for a tux..her response was 'you expect your father to wear a tux at his age'? (he is 85) My response would have been 'He needs to get dressed anyway, what is the difference?????

Also, after we got engaged...she needed to remind me that is daughter was still his #1 ......well I wasn't trying to complete with her

my wedding is tomorrow.. my grandmother called me at 11:30 last night to ask me where would she put her coat when she gets to the church....

i told her don't worry.. i'll hold it for her..

this is a big problem with older people, they get so worked up over little things, not knowing where to put her coat could totally screw up her day, but you're a good granddaughter i'm having this mental picture of granny's coat slung over a statue!

My mom told us she wasn't going to come to our e-party so she could conserve money to pay for the reception.............but she went to acapulco for 9 days the same week as e-party!

I wished her montezumas revenge

ETA:

my Mom lives in Kansas

you know...FMIL kept goin on and on about how she cant help us with the wedding.....

she went out the NEXT DAY! they bought a new audi....

dont want your money anyway!

My FMIL never offered to help us either, but they are putting a 100K extention on their house.. I even mentioned how my parents also have my sisters wedding in 09 to help with and how money is tight and her response, 'well maybe your sister should wait a little longer'

This is hysterical!!!!

Ok, mine. I have older cousins with 4 kids ages 3-11. They live in Florida. I have no relationship with these kids and not inviting them to the wedding. Only their parents are invited. (I don't care what drama this causes in my family.) Anyway, my uncle (his uncle too) tells his bratty girls that they will be the flower girls in my wedding.

And here are a few from FMIL:

The guys should wear cummerbunds and bowties. (Um, no)

You need to wear a veil and have it cover your face so your father can remove it. (I hate veils)

Terrace on the Park, Jericho Terrace and Russo's are too expensive. You need to look elsewhere. (Thanks for your advice, but we're paying and we'll have it where WE want to have it.)

You can't have this as your first dance song! You need something better, like a love song! Listen to these, they would make a great wedding song. (Listen lady, this is MY wedding, you had yours. I'll pick what I want!)

I love FMIL to death and I just nod when she tells me these things.

Last weekend, I sat down with FMIL and FH to go over the guest list...FMIL's first response, before we even showed her who we had on the list already was: 'Let's keep it as small as possible.'

I said out loud, 'Yes, halleluah!'

Then, she proceeds to add 25 more people to the existing list, and when I told her the total, he seemed shocked it was so large. Meanwhile, FH's parents are not contributing money towards the reception hall expenses.

The next day, FH calls to tell me that his mom wants to add 4 more people to the list...so I told him to remind her that she said she wanted to keep it small!

He calls me back 5 minutes later to report that his mom said we don't have to add those 4 people.

I suppose I should say Halleluah!

One of my FBILs asked when he should go get his tux. I told him in about a month or two I'm gonna start looking for them. He looks at me weird and says 'oh, well I already picked mine out.' He thought every guy got to choose which tux they were gonna wear!

Right after FH and I got engaged, an older friend of the family tells us that having an open bar at the wedding is tacky.....FH and I were set on open bar before we even looked at RH's, so I wonder what she'll be thinking at the reception...
